I always seem to lose to stall teams, so I figured the best way to learn how to beat them, would be to make one and use it myself. This is a huge turn from my normally hyper-offense play style, so I had to do a bit of research. Once I had looked up what made stall teams work, I was ready to make my own. I wasn't taking this team very seriously, but with a 12-1 record so far, I figured I should. So, I'm ready to receive some critique on my first stall team.
Aggron @ Aggronite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Thunder Wave
- Heavy Slam
This guy is here for Stealth Rocks and general phazing. I have a lot of ways to spread status on this team, so Thunder Wave might seem a bit out of place, but I find myself using it to stop the likes of Darmanitan, and other offensive threats that rely completely on speed. Heavy Slam is simply there so Mega-Aggron isn't complete taunt bait, and so I have at least something to attack with.
Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Haze
- Scald
Tentacruel is essential to this team. If Tentacruel falls, I find myself struggling hardcore, and it's not hard to see why. I wanted a rapid spinner that could fill a few more slots, and since I've been using Tentacruel for a while, it seemed like a perfect fit. It's a great counter to a very common spin-blocker, Chandelure, and it can stop sweeps before they happen with Haze. Not to mention the extra entry hazards are a big plus too.
Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Symbiosis
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Aromatherapy
- Moonblast
Florges is here for Wish support and to make nasty statuses go away. It's been great being able to bring Mega-Aggron and Ferroseed back from the brink to cause more mayhem and destruction, not to mention Florges is one of the best special walls around.
Noivern @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Air Slash
- Flamethrower
- Switcheroo
I originally had Bronzong here, but two things quickly became obvious. The first one was that I needed a way to destroy substitutes, or at least a way to get by them, and the second thing was that Bronzong wasn't doing anything whatsoever. So, with those things in mind, Noivern seemed like a perfect fit. It also makes a pretty great late-game sweeper to boot!
Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 4 Def / 252 HP / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Protect
I needed a spikes user that wouldn't die. After some extensive searching, I finally decided to give Ferroseed a shot, and I'm so glad I did. This thing absolutely refuses to die, and it's been the bane for so many teams. I decided to try out Gyro Ball after PlatinumDude's suggestion, and I really enjoyed it. It was nice dealing some form of reliable damage.
Mismagius @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 96 Spd / 236 HP / 176 Def
Bold Nature
- Perish Song
- Shadow Ball
- Pain Split
- Will-O-Wisp
I wanted a Perish Song user, and I was stuck between Lapras and Mismagius. I looked over my team, and realized I had forgotten a spin-blocker. After that, it was pretty obvious which one made the cut. I chose Mismagius over Chandelure because of Perish Song, and Mismagius had more bulk as well as another handy immunity. Mismagius can do a pretty decent job at keeping popular spinners such as Tentacruel and Blastoise at bay.
So there's my team. It's done very well, but I just feel like there's something I'm missing. If you have any tips, I'm open to any and all advice. Thanks for taking the time to read through this and possibly leaving some feedback! It's greatly appreciated.
