My thoughts on the Ultra Beasts (UB discussion thread)

They are catchable, yay! :D. Then technically aren't the Ultra Beasts Pokemon?

A funny thought occured to me; What if the UBs were "???"-type.

At least there'd be an actua legitimate use for such a thing.

I'd actually like that idea. :)

I wouldn't go ahead taking that as the gospel, because a "Nintendo rep" told them.

"Nintendo reps" have done this countless times and often get stuff wrong. Not sure if anyone remembers or cares, but at E3 last year with the "amazing" game known as Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival, Josh Thomas from TBB said that a Nintendo Rep @ E3 told him "the game would be free to purchase on the eShop, you just need to buy an amiibo to play the game" - which didn't turn out to be true. But since he said he got told by a Nintendo rep, every single media outlet went along with it as if it were true, and then when it didn't, it call came back on him.

Even Alison Rapp has since commented it after she was fired from Nintendo and said it was total BS.

I know Polygon is more "reliable" than a YouTuber, and I'm not saying this information is right or wrong (and it looks to be right based on the data mine because why else would UB's have shiny models), but I still wouldn't report something spoken by a "Nintendo rep" as fact.

In that case, I'm gonna take what Polygon said with a grain of salt until I hear otherwise. If true however, I'm not sure how I'd feel if could catch what are suppose to be threatening Alola, and perhaps the world as well.

That'd be interesting. Not falling into any known typing, yet (in my mind anyway) representing the different pokemon types. And based on what I've seen in the leaks, that could very well be the case and may confirm my belief that we might be seeing 18 UBs (19 if you count UB-02A and UB-02B as separate UBs) over the next few games, if not in S/M.

Say...what if we catch UB's with... A UB Ball? Something like the GS Ball or that Snagem Machine In Pokemon XD and Colleseum. I can totally see something like that happening.

I thought that it was explicitly stated elsewhere that the UB are not Pokemon at all. So, I'm kinda... huh?

The "shared secret" with Rockruff and the starter evos was another claim that was lost in translation, but I guess we'll see how it pans out. They do have shiny sprites after all, indicating that they would be catchable.

I'm not sure if this automatically makes them Pokemon. I think they might go down as a bit of a gray area.

I don't know if I want to use one on my team then. The only one I'm really interested in is UB-01 but I don't like using legendaries on my team....and they seem kinda "legendary".

No. No where did it ever confirm UBs were not pokemon. In fact, there was a hint in a trailer that made it seem like UBs were pokemon. The female leader of Aether Foundation said 'even pokemon from different dimensions' right before UB01 emerged. That alone is a big enough hint that UBs are Pokemon.

The shared secrete with Rockruff was a mistake, but the starters are still supposed to have a secrete that we don't know about, but it just may not be the same as Rockruff.

Why can we have pokemon from space, but not a different dimension? What is the difference between Deoxys and the UBs when, to me, they remind me strongly of one another.

I guess I always thought Ultra beasts would be catchable but it's cool that they've confirmed it. I probably won't use one on my team seeing as I don't really like the concept of them, but it'll certainly be interesting to see them in-game.

The Ultra BEasts were intentionally made not to look like pokemon according to an interview with Masuda and the other guy who made the game. GameXplain, who were able to interview them, states that they said that no one in Alola know what the Ultra Beasts are.

They are supposed to be a major role in the story and setting.

Honestly, I'd use some of them on a future team if they do turn out to be catchable. I don't see the big deal.

Same. Although I will probably never use them, as I don't tend to use any type of Legendary Pokemon unless it is part of the story and would make sense, similar to Reshiram/Zekrom in BW.

I am not even bothered by their other worldly look. I mean, just look at Deoxys, who to me, is just as strange as the UBs.

"In the Alola region, rumors are flying about mysterious creatures known as Ultra Beasts. Ultra Beasts possess mighty powers and could pose a threat to humans and Pokémon, so they are feared."

It's kind of directly stated on the SM website that they are a separate entity from Pokémon lol.
