You know like local fairy tails, like Elf's and stuff like that,

Does your country have a myth of it's own?

I love myths :D
But some of them are just to absurd for my liking.

We have a myth down here in our part of Florida. It's that if you walk across the wall that separates Coon Hill Cemetery and the highway, a spirit will push you off at the end of the wall.

I've never tried it, but it sounds like something fun to try.

Well on Iceland we mostly have myths about Mórar and Huldufólk.

When I was younger there was a myth that a crazy hobo lived in our woods.
Newer saw him, but the rumour was enough to scare me. xD

I love em! Especially the one with the old abandoned houses behind the new fancy ones in the old town square(no seriously you had a bunch of new houses in front of these house from like the beggining of the 20th century that were built around the old square with a huge kick ass tree) held the souls of those that got killed in the big territory fight of 1905. But of course we all know the truth. The houses were too old to live in*but were damn scary cause hobos would sleep in there and when they would move about they would seem like ghosts)(we went back there because of that tree. we had our initials and everything carved into it.

There is a Native American myth about the Hoofman. Yeah, a half man half horse sort of figure that supposedly lived near the local river here. I believed it when I was a kid and a friend of mine was REALLY good at telling stories about him; good enough to scare me half way to hell.

Yeah, Myths are great. I mean what kind of world would it be without Myths. Their is acctualy this new show about the Myth creatures like Bigfoot, Thunder Birds, and others of that kind. It acctualy looks pretty real. But yeah, myths are great. Their was this one in one of my friends nehborhood about this really old arch. Basicly if you walked under it, something bad would happen. I can't rember what. I think it was about the Bunny-Man or something like that.

Ah, Robin Hood..My family goes to visit Robin Hoods bay at whitby sometimes..Supposedly he shot an arrow into the sea there. :/

Well, i don't really have any myths where i am, Or in my local area..I live in an incredibly boring place XD In thre urbs, so to speak

But England on whole has many myths, a lot of them, surrounding the former kings and queens of our country. And of course, Robin Hood, like Dark_Azelf menioned.
There are more, that i'd have to actually look up in order to go into full depth. XD

I think it's more likely that the UK is more famous for fantasy authors creating mythical stories..Such as Philip Pullman. I was going to say Tolkien, but i have suspsicions that he's Irish.XD

We had a rumor around our neighborhood that there was a coffin (empty) in our neighbor's house. They cleaned their attic after that rumor started and found nothing though, so yeah, it wasn't true (obviously.) However, there's definitely rumors that seem pretty realistic, we have a few coyotes around here and a ton of rumors get started about the howling and stuff. I don't think there's any extremely crazy ones right now though. But yeah, I love rumors.

Well, there is a myth in my country (France) that a tiny weasle haunts anyone who commits a crime. It is the most powerful creature on the planet. It started around the time I was 14.

Anyway in NZ, it's not exactly local, but it's a legend/myth anyway;

THE TANIWHA.

A eel-like monster thats rumored to live in Lake Taupo, it supposedly is a demon that kills you when you get dragged under by it's monstrous tails.

I love them. Our Locale has Bigfoot, Thunderbird, and the Mark Twain Manner. As well as the fact a famous murderer once spent a week in the house I LIVE in!

Only I find it rather insulting that pagan religions' stories get called myth...
That said, I do enjoy Christian mythology.

I read somewhere that for him to have been a real person and done all of whatever he is said to have done, he'd had to have lived for six hundred years.

I don't know many myths myself. I am somewhat intrigued by them. I do like watching Mythbusters, though and seeing them take on urban legend. But I guess that's in a different league than real legend myths and such.
