Why do you like Kimimaro? I think he was a pretty two dimensional character, but that was exactly what made me feel with him: He had no purpose whatsoever, so I really felt with him when he died for something not even worth it...
Bur that didn't really make him the best character, since I prefer three-dimensional and interesting characters over people like the sound four...

Dieing for Orochimaru is completely worth it...

He was just a tool, all for we know Orochimaru was just as manipulative to him as he was with Anko giving him a sense of reason to live since Kimimaro family had him locked up most of his life. Not to mention they were all slaughtered anyways. They could have did more with his character but he was pretty much a failed vassal for Orochimaru and that was the extent of his character.

And I love Killer Bee, I have literally laughed out loud at his antics like when he put his head in that statue and pretended it bite his head off! Yamato freaked out cause of him that was probably one of not the funniest moment in Naruto.

HOW WHAT WHEN WHERE ???/1111!!!!!!!

So the past two years of Naruto jut got thrown on it's head. So, who is the "real" Madara?


Theory #1


At the very least, we can be sure that the masked Madara is one of the Sage's descendants - either a Senju/Uzumaki or an Uchiha.


But, look at this line:

"When Madara finds Nagato's body, he sees that he is smiling even in death, which Madara interpreted as his continued betrayal. After closing Nagato's eyes, Madara teleports the body away to the pocket dimension. Madara returns to his hideout and replaces his blinded Sharingan with one of Nagato's Rinnegan, and gets a new arm, mask, and outfit. Kabuto complemented him on his efforts to gain new eyes, but Madara rebuffed the statement, claiming that they were his to begin with"

His to begin with? That struck me as some sort of ownership, sort of in the way a parent could feel towards a child or an heir.

Therfore:

The Sage of the 6 Paths has returned to undo what he never should have done in the first place - saved the world from the 10 Tails. He has seen how horrible the ninja world has become since then; so far from what he originally intended, and he would be disappointed with how his descendents have been doing things. Now, he's going to reform the beast and create the world anew as he wants, how it should have been. So, our masked Madara is in fact the Rikoudo Sage, in some shape or form.



Theory #2

Masked Madara is who we always thought he was. Obito, using the spectre of his more frightening ancestor to his advantage, survived the 3rd great war and is out for revenge.



Theory #3

Izuna Uchiha, Brother of Madara. Notice how masked Madara is incapable of MS Sharingan, so we could infer his eyes aren't his. Which is something we see a lof of from masked Madara, eye transplanting and stealing.


Theory #4

Shisui Uchiha. Koto Amatsukami would be able to fool Itachi and Danzo, as well as anyone else. The timeline for it's usage, every ten years or so, would mean it was used sometime after the Uchiha Massacre, 2-3 years after the Kyuubi attack. (so naruto and sasuke are 17, meaning 10 years before current shippuden time was when the jutsu was used last, which is more or less the same time as the massacre.)

The resurrected Madara knows who Nagato is, meaning he wasn't killed by Shodai Hashirama, as Nagato wouldn't have been born for a few decades yet. Meaning he must have survived long enough into the reign of Sandaime, but that only backs up what Masked Madara said. So, who's telling the truth and who isn't?

I support Theory 1 through 3. It just doesn't seem to me sensible to have Shisui as the Masked Madara.

1. I don't really see Masked Madara as Rikudo Sennin, sure he could try and make a fresh start but provoking a world wide war to do that is the answer? Naruto goes about unifying so I thinking Rikudo Sennin would have wanted to do the same but not with the cost of peoples life's to do so. It could have been a descendent implying they "should have been mine as birth right."

2. This theory is probably the oldest theory going around. Just curious how he would know all the back story to Madara and Izuna unless he read diaries or some manuscript of their stories. Much less the story of the Sage of Six Paths and his two sons. Which again could have been at an old old Uchiha hideout few knew about. I really wouldn't see Obito motivation either. I'd think his Sharigan would match Kakashi that was originally his but he did get his side crushed so maybe he replaced it was someone else.

3. Yeah I haven't see Masked Madara use the three basic MS moves but that doesn't mean he is incapable of using them.

I either think it's an Uchiha or descendent of the Sage, cause why would they throw in some outsider at this point. Itachi does mention I will show you a true wielder of the Sharigan so maybe this guy isn't a true wield implying he is not part of the clan or a relative like Naruto or Tsunade would be at least distant. So he couldn't use the Sharigan to its full capabilities. We have seen Kakashi use space rending MS Sharigan, but never the 3 basic MS techinuques.

What ever the case may be Kishi has some hell of plot twists that's for sure.

#1: I must agree with Kenshin. Though this would be a very great plot twist AND something Kishi might do, it's not at all logical.

#2: Guys, unless Obito came back from the dead, got a new half body, learned advanced space-time jutsu and grew to a grown-up man able do defeat the fourth Hokage in 2 YEARS, this theory is downright trash.
Kakashi was 12 when Obito died. He was 14 when the Kyubi attacked. I hope this is end of story.

#3: No. Izuna died. Izuna loved Konoha. Izuna just isn't the one, though that would make an interesting subplot with the two brothers.

#4: Shisui died. Shisui loved Konoha and could not have created Akatsuki. No.

The answer is

KAGAMI UCHIHA.
He was a member of Danzos team.
He lived at the same time as the first and second hokage and therefore Madara too.
He might have had great respect to Madara and his philosophy, or might even have been related to him (father, uncle, something around those lines).
When Madara was banished from his clan and killed (or at least severely injured) Kagami swore upon his grave to revenge the Uchiha clan and all of Konoha.
Furthermore, his sensei was the second Hokage, famous for his strong time-space jutsu. He might have learned a few skills from him.

Nagato mentioned that Konoha started the second world war. Kagami started it through Danzo to weaken Konoha and it made him able to fake his own death in battle, only Danzo knowing him to be alive.
He then discovered, that a young man with Rinnegan had started a rebellion. He saw a chance of an important and easily conquerable ally.
With help from Danzo he made a conspiracy to truly awaken his Rinnegan (where Hanzo makes him kill Yahiko).
Whis is why he claims to have given him Rinnegan. He was responsible for the war that activated it AND helped to awaken it further.

Years later, Danzo offered him a deal; he gave him inside-knowledge about the nintales' host giving birth.
If Kagami destroyed Konoha, Danzo would become Hokage and make sure the Uchiha got a respectable position. Sinze this would both avenge Konoha AND restore the honor of Uchiha, he accepted.
Thus, he made the Kyubi attack Konoha and failed.

After this failure Danzo cuts the connection between them. Someone had to have given "Madara" inside knowledge so the elder were suspicious.
So Kagami builds up Akatsuki with help from Nagato in the following years. But he gets impatient! Konoha was at peace and had their guard down.
He contacts the Uchiha-clan under the name of Madara offering them a deal: They help him overtake Konoha or he would kill them. Whis would be a win-win for him.
The Uchiha clan, fearing the power of Madara, accepts.
Itachi and his friend Shisui, though, are still against it. Itachis father has to insist for the sake of his own sons life.
But Shisui confronts Kagami and Itachi watches him die or accidentally caused his death, activating his MS.
Kagami reveals his secret to Itachi and Itachi can either die or help him slaughtering the Uchiha in revenge. The panicking Itachi accepts.
He goes to the elders and tells them that the Uchiha were planning a coup de tat (sorry if I misspelled), while Kagami confronts Danzo.
Danzo hadn't told anyone about Kagamis secret, since his traitory would make it impossible for him to become Hokage.
Kagami threatens him with telling the Kages, and Danzo has to pull some strings sending Itachi on a mission to kill the Uchiha clan.
Kagami does most of the work while Itachi helps. But he can't kill his poor little brother. But he can't let him know the truth about Kagami either. He therefore tells him a story about him killing them himself for his own sake.

Now Pain, having destroyed the city, has avenged Konoha abuout enough, Kagami still isn't done. he has become a threat to the Shinobi alliance and he had become obsessed with power.

Now Kabuto figured Madaras identity out somehow (he had been in touch with Akatsuki, Konoha AND Orochimaru, so he could somehow put 2 and 2 together) and found the body of Madara (he might have been looking for it when he met Naruto before Sasuke and Itachis battle).
He threatens Kagami of revealing his secret to get close to him. He has become an irreplaceable and important ally giving him a secure position to start his plans:
He will show Sasuke the proof of Kagamis lies and tell the truth about how HE alone had been responsible for the slaughter of the Uchiha clan.
Sasuke with EMS, Plot no Jutsu AND all his hatred focused on one target, might be able to kill Kagami off or at least weaken him enough to allow Kabuto to finish the job.
Then Kabuto would be able to steal his Rinnegan and maybe his Sharingan, and get control of the entire army of Zetsus AND Edo Tensei zombies by himself.

that could be a very good explanation, but remember when the bug guy infected Madara and he broke of his own arm? I suspect the White Zetsu has something to do with this

Kagami wasn't seen as an incredibly powerful ninja capable of controlling the nine tails and fighting off Hokages, and he's assumed dead too, according to Narutopedia. I doubt a character so central to the plot of the entire series would be someone who was featured in one flash back

I don't know if it really has to be an Uchiha, but it was definitly predictable that he wasn't Madara. I doubt its Kagami, the theory seems to elaborate (not bad reasoning though). Usually its far less complicated and mysterious.

Pretty sure Impure World Summoning restores them to when they were at their peak and the peak of Obito was as a little kid, which Masked Madara is clearly not in the form of a little kid. And I am pretty sure dead people wouldn't age so that wouldn't explain why Masked Madara would be an adult if he was Obito. He would have had to survived being crushed for this to even occur, and since they didn't recover his body there is that possibility. But again I don't see the motivation for all this bs.

As far as Izuna goes how do we know he loved Konoha? At the time the Uchiha were at war with the Senju so there wasn't much love going on around. For all we know instead Izuna giving his eyes to Madara it could have been the other way around or forced to give. Either way it could be a possibility.

I don't see why Kagami who was a sub character in Danzo flashback as a key antagonist and mastermind behind all this. Regardless of the explanation he doesn't seem any more likely then the ones Live first brought up.

Well no matter your thoughts, I still think the Kagami-theory is the best one around.
Or maybe... he actually IS a part of Madara... this Tobi character might have been the dark part of him still living wanting revenge against Konoha... so he actually speaks the truth...
But I think many people forget his statement about giving Nagato the rinnegan. That is still a mystery...

Honestly if I hadn't read any forums with theories I would be very, VERY surprised right now.
Masashi has actually built up a lot of suspense and mystery around this "Madara" since the war was about to begin.
His weird statements like giving Nagato Rinnegan and such plus his weird fetish for Sharingan-eyes...

Naruto has always been an awesome series, and Kishi knows that when responding to the fans like this it will be even better.

Madara is an Uchiha. Hell, he was even one of the founders of the clan. He obviously has Sharingan and the masked version has too.
So why do you suddenly conclude that he's not? Where did you get that?

Remember Masked Madara has that entire lab full of Sharingan. Until we see a Mangekyou from him I will have my doubts as to who he really is. A MS from him would reveal an awful lot.

Regardless of who he is, the guys' got balls. He attacked Konoha when it had a younger, more powerful Sarutobi in addition to Minato.

Yeah I wouldn't want to attack the village with two Kages one in his prime and one in Hiruzen who is said to be one of the strongest if not the strong Kages of all time(just look how he stood up to Orchimaru,Hashirama, Tobimaru). I mean damn two Kages and a Sennin at your late 60s. And of course he has all those Sharigan no thanks to the attack on the Uchiha with him and Itachi.
