6th Gen New Hoenn Pokemon Official Artwork?!

    This thread is to discuss if there's going to be new Hoenn Pokemon artwork like there was with the Johto Pokemon during HGSS, and the Kanto Pokemon during FRLG. Also it's to discuss said artwork as it comes out (if they do make new artwork).

    Which Pokemon artwork are you looking forward to seeing? Do you even care if they update the official artwork like they've done with previous remakes?

    Edit: Despite the title the update artwork for the human characters (and anything else) can be talked about here too :)

    The only new artwork I want to see it new sprites/images for everything in the bag! They have been the same since Fr/Lg (for items that have existed that long) , i mean, they gave all the sprites for pokemon an overhaul in X/Y - I dont see why the items wont get one.

    But any new artwork to look at is good :) If there are meags in this game, im sure some new artwork for the pokemon they belong to will appear at some point. :)
     
    I'm sure the Hoenn Pokemon will get updated artworks. As you said, it happened with Johto Pokemon during HGSS, no reason why it shouldn't happen again!
     
    I'd hope so, it a shame to see the rest of the Pokémon with updated artworks from modern games or remakes and Hoenn with artwork that is over 11 years old. I'd like to see the Gym Leader mugshots and OWs looking something like this:

    New Team Magma and Agua Outfits?

    I'm thinking that their might be more evil and cool looking outfits for Team Magma and Agua. This thread is about discussing what these outfits could look like. Post pictures of what you think. Team Magma has pretty cool outfits right now so there might be some minor changes. In my opinion, Team Agua's isn't very detailed. They're just black and white T- shirts with blue pants and a bandanna. Hopefully the designs will be more detailed like for example, the pants could have Kyogre veins on it.
     
    Although the current Ken Sugimori art style seems to have gotten into place beginning Generation 3 (moreso when Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen and Pokemon Emerald came along), I wouldn't mind seeing new awesome artwork for Hoenn Pokemon (I'm so used to the current artwork, though)! All important people (Gym Leaders, Elite 4, Champion, Frontier Brain, Gabby & Ty, Wally, Mr. Stone, Scott, Trick Master) should get new refined artwork.. At the moment, I can't tell if there was any Hoenn person that didn't get artwork who needs to...

    More artwork for beautiful locations (like Ecruteak City got for Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver) would be nice.

    Now that I think about it, the location will be in most need for new artwork as they'll likely update the look of the towns and cities in a drastic way.

    My issue with Aqua's design is that I found them plain boring.
    Simple doesn't automatically equate to uninteresting. Brawly's design is pretty simple but it's not boring. To me at least.
    Heck. Team Rocket's attire is nothing complex. Black jumpsuit with a red 'R' slapped on it + White belt, boots, and gloves + simple black hat. Done.
     
    the only reason that the remakes got new artwork is because the way they drew the pokemon was white spots everywhere and looked very old. when hoenn came out, the artwork was new and it still looks like that. i could see they would get a slight different artwork but not completely new besides the more important pokemon of the game.
     
    I can only see the human characters getting new official artwork, because they can't update Hoenn Pokémon's artwork without updating the Kanto Pokémon's artwork, since FR/LG was released the same gen as RSE, meaning they had same official artworks at the time.

    They remove them because of the character customization for your trainer; it'll be time-consuming to make every single combination for your trainer's artwork.

    That "white spots everywhere" you're talking about is a style of painting called watercolors. When Ken Sugimori drew the Hoenn artwork, he switched to digital coloring, and has used that style since, although it has slowly evolved a little over the years.

    The thing is, I'm not sure if he'll make new artwork. The original Hoenn artwork was the first set of official art for Pokémon using digital coloring. The FRLG artwork was made to match the RS artwork. Then the DP artwork was made to match the RS/FRLG artwork. Then the HG/SS artwork was made to match the RS/FRLG/DP artwork, and so on.

    But one more thing: When Ken Sugimori drew the FRLG artwork, he didn't just redraw Gen I Pokémon, he also redrew a few Gen II Pokémon, such as Marill, Espeon, etc. When he made the HG/SS artwork, he only made new art for ones that didn't get new art in FR/LG. So what I'm saying is, this shows that they're more than fine with the FRLG art (which was made to match the original Ruby/Sapphire art) being shown alongside art from newer generations. These days his art is a bit more cleaner and he draws pupils larger, but ultimately the current Hoenn art is close enough in style. The gap between Hoenn art and Kalos art is nowhere near as large as the gap between the original watercolors and the Hoenn art.

    EDIT: A leak of a CoroCoro scan that's covering OR/AS shows Groudon and Kyogre in their original RS artwork. In past cases (HG/SS), they showed new artwork. I think this means that there won't be new artwork, since the existing artwork is already similar enough in style (all the artwork that came after RS was made to match the RS artwork)

    I will admit, the showcasing of the older art of Groudon and Kyogre makes it seem like the Pokémon might not get updated art, but there's still a chance that they're just holding back until later.

    The trainers' art will definitely receive an upgrade though. Sugimori's way of drawing humans has changed quite a bit, even from the gen 3 era to now...and Sugimori doesn't even draw all the humans any more. Ohmura might actually draw a few this time around. And since ORAS is using the visual style of XY, it's safe to assume they will also have the trainers' artwork show up on-screen when you challenge them, so they'll want that to be as up-to-date as possible--and perhaps they might even redesign certain aspects of some trainers (similar to Sabrina's major overhaul in HGSS, and the more complex dress Jasmine received). Also, some characters will probably finally get art for this reason (Tabitha and Shelly, I seriously can't wait!).
    Pokémon on the other hand can't really be "redesigned," so it's a little more acceptable if they reuse their old concept art. Still, it would be super awesome to see them updated, though!
     
    Oh, definitely. There's a bunch of fan art featuring Hoenn Pokémon, and there's official ones, too, but they're all bland in comparison. In other words, they are simply outdated. If they decide to make a few more with improved shading, lighting, and coloring, that would be pretty darn sweet. :]

    I loved aqua and magmas suits. hey Of course Aqua have to look like pirate seaman guys :D
