New Pokemon Type?

    Hi all, I hope this hasn't been done before :P

    I'm going to do a quick analysis of all the feasible new types that could be featured in Pokemon.

    1. Light - While you could argue that it is produced by Fire and Psychic and is most closely associated with Electric, you could say the same about fighting and normal, water and ice. There are a lot of moves (confuse ray, flash, solar beam, sunny day) that could be given the 'light type.' The types of attacks would be along the lines of 'laser beam,' 'microwave,' 'blinding light.' The main problem with having a light type would be that not many pokemon could be associated with it, unless you made a light-bulb pokemon or a star pokemon.

    2. Sound - This one is probably more likely. Pokemon such as Jigglywigglypufftuff and WhismurLoudredExploud could already be classed as sound pokemon, and there are quite a lot of moves which fit into the category too. You could argue that all pokemon can make noise, and the problem would be deciding when it would be ineffective and super effective.

    3. Space - Pokemon such as Clefairy, those moon rock and sun rock whose names I can't remember would be space types. It would not be the same as Psychic, as moves would be along the lines of 'lunar beam,' 'cosmic blast,' 'shooting stars' and 'vacuum.' It wouldn't be too hard to think of new pokemon either, for example, an ice-space type comet pokemon.

    What do you think? Can you think of any other types?
     
    Sound is a very interesting contribution (and perhaps a sub-type to flying types). Light is the one that I think have been on most people's minds since Ruby and Sapphire, and mine as well. I've also been thinking of some new types, and here are a few suggestions:

    Time - Special ways of Evolution? Special attacks and perhaps a sub-type of Psychics

    Void - How cool wouldn't THAT be? A freaking VOID Pokémon. I'd absolutely adore that idea. It could be the same as your space idea, though. But it works, since in Japan and most of Asia, Void is considered "the fifth element"
     
    If they introduce a new type, I think it should only be to balance the types already introduced (with the exception of Dragon's associated strengths ad weaknesses, I think most types should be largely equal).

    Whatever it is should be super-effective against Steel (most prevalent defense type), and weak to poison (poor defense type). It should be weak against poison, the poorest attacking type.

    Of the introduced ideas, Space is the most appropriate (foreign life forms are weak against local poisons because they have built no immunity) for these criteria, but I'm sure there's something else.

    Togepi/tic/kiss
    Xatu
    Sunkern/flora
    Espeon
    ralts/kirlia/gardevoir/gallade
    Solrock

    Chimecho
    Jirachi (not steel type)
    Cresselia
    Arceus
     
    New fan-made types are usually pointless. Light is covered by Psychic (and to some extent Normal), Sound is entirely covered by Normal, and Space is plain ridiculous. The Normal type exists as a universal catch-all, in order to avoid debates such as this as to new types. Nintendo acknowledged that they may have missed a few ideas with the introduction of the Steel- and Dark-types, but the fact that no new types have been introduced in the nine years after the release of Gold and Silver is testament to the coverage of the existing types.

    That's kinda the problem. Normal types are quite often anything but.Flying types will normally have wings, Water types have fins or webbed feet, Dark types are black and grey. But Normal? Porygon2 does not share many qualities with Rattata
     
    Wood. Very Obvious.
    Pokemon that could be Part if not all wood type:
    Sudowoodo (? How can it be a rock type ?)
    Exeggutor (WHAT? THERE IS A TREE ISNT THERE?)
    Shiftry. (Obviously.)
    Tropious (To obvious.)
    Torterra (Leaves room)
    Snover
    Leafeon
    Mamoswine.

    I thought wood but then doesn't it come under grass?
     
    First regarding a light type.

    Also, until some presents a decent idea for new types we don't need them. Light doesn't count. We have Fighting as a good guy counter to Dark. Psychic has been mention earlier as well. Steel is shiny. Electricity fits the Light description best and Normal's about as effective as it'd be. Come to think of it, the Sun's another source of light and thats covered by Poison and Fire.

    The biggest problem with light is, what would a light typed move be? Light Force? Angels guidance? Holy Hand grenade? I don't think so. We've already pissed off enough religions. (I didn't mean that to offend anyone, I just mean, a Light Type as a Dark type counter would probabley draw the attention of some religious figures and they already don't like us Pokemon people and it's creators)

    The rest of the ideas, jsut sound like the pokedex description, you kow, The Void pokemon but as a typing it doesn't work. There has to be enough pokemon to fit the typing to make it worth it.
    Sounds' a better idea than light in my opinion but still not good enough. It could hurt some things, but we've only got a couple pokemon that could mildly fit it. What would its weaknesses be, something's got to be pretty loud to hurt things like Steel. Some animals don't even have ears. Sound jut doesn't make any sense.

    Space is meh, its kind of cool but all the other types are earthly and we do battle on earth. To me it doesn't really sound like a pokemon type. Plus space is really just the place that certain pokemon came from. It's not really an element to categorize them as, a human born in Sweden is the same species as someone born in Africa or Canada.

    Wood? Are you serious? Wood comes from Tree's, which is a plant as is grass that's why grass' job as a type is to cover all plant based pokemon. And its been stated that Sudowoodo is a rock type, it only looks like a tree to blend in with its surroundings. It's just a defense mechanism I guess, I never really questioned it.
     
    You would not complain if it actually happened those of you who speak of the metagame. We already adjusted once and then abilities gave secret 3rd types to some.

    The only type I think we should see is the Light type. Psychic does not qualify and I can see like an awesome yin yang weakness going on with Dark and Light.

    Space is interesting too because alot of psychic pokemon are alien pokemon and since when are aliens psychic?

    lol but they are not really the same and I thought of another how about plasma, tell you the truth I really don't know what that is lol I just heard it before in school.

    Well for the record Steel and Dark were added for balance since Psychic pokemon were pretty much invincible since it's only weakness was Ghost and the only ghost types were Gastly, Haunter and Gengar and they were all weak to Psychic because of their poison typing. Gengar was also outsped by Alakazam.

    Ya Fighting can do the yin yang sorta, blah blah blah, we obviously have different opinions and that's fine.

    Ya I have no idea why alien pokemon are psychic but I still see space as more a region just like Kanto/Johto/Hoenn/Sinnoh and the rest. Not really as anything to type pokemon by.

    Couldn't glass be categorized under ground?
     
    As Waffle-San has said, the problem with fanmade types is in defining them. He gave very good examples in the Light-, Sound- and Space-types, and was very right to say that they make for good species names, but not completely new types. With the current types - barring Normal-type - one can easily define them. Some, such as the Fire- and Water-types, are very easy to define, and some, such as Fighting- and Psychic-types, are fairly straightforward. Normal-type is the only one that's difficult to define, but that's the whole point - it encompasses all the ideas that don't fit into the existing types, to the point where one wonders if the name 'Normal' is really appropriate - a lot of them are rather abnormal, really.

    This has been done thousands of times before :|

    But yeah, no more new types. Ever. The only reason new types were added in GSC was to underpower psychic types and boost up fighting types, and that successfully balanced the metagame. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
     
    Um, I think there is already a thread like this...but I think it would be nice to have a light type...
     
    If they had to make another type it would be light...and a PURE flying type pokemon...lol
