For the sake of not repeating the same exact thing over and over, Pokemon has released several new game-changing features such as new types and a new mechanic called Mega Evolution. What do you think will be the next big, game-changing mechanic Gamefreak will introduce in several generations in order to spice things up?

I've been praying for this since Gen 3 so I guess i'll go with cooperative multiplayer. The ability to set up a lobby with 4 players (Max) and explore the region battling and adventuring with your friends. You could team up with your friends to take out the evil team of the game and battle gym leaders together.

Oh I also have another idea (something I have also been hoping for for a while) to have Pokemon battles in the overworld, it would be more realistic to have the battles take place in the exact environment you are standing in and it would allow for better themed gym battles, having a rocky field in a rock gym for example.

One thing I'd like seeing is return of following Pokémon, but with Amie incorporated. Your desired team member would walk beside you where you go, and if you click on them, you'd be taken to directly, where you could interact with said Pokémon. Background, color-scheme, and other visual things would all depend whatever time it is and place that you're in; for example, if it's night and you happen to be at some beach, everything would be dark, you might be able to see stars in sky, and behind your Pokémon, there'd be a sea. Beautiful scenery, isn't it?

Aside from that, seeing Versus Seeker returning would be pretty cool, too, in one form or another. If I were to invent something completely new, though, then I don't think I have much ideas in mind right now, sadly. Well, perhaps they could implement some location-based evolution system? Basically, there would be certain Pokémon that evolves (by level-up) depending on your current place.

Internet doesn't need to be utilized for the feature, since you might not be able to have it everywhere with 3DS--it could be GPS-based.

It's not really so much a mechanic, but it is a game-changer: I'd like to see the storylines spiced up. In other words, I want to see less of the standard "take on eight gyms, beat evil organization, challenge legendary, and become Champion" path and more of paths unique to the games. For instance, GF could allow you to "pick your own", where you don't have to be a Trainer, but can be a Coordinator, Breeder, or even member of the region's evil organization. Depending on your choice, the story will be different (with similarities/connections across all the stories). I feel like such a game would have higher replay value and would attract more players.

Other than that, it'd be neat if you could have the option to control your Pokemon in battle and make the battles more like they are in the anime. You'll be able to run around, fire off attacks, try and dodge the opponents' attacks, and use combinations of moves in order to deal more damage. Someone actually made a 3D Pokemon game like that; it's still in progress but it's pretty fun!

I've been recently playing a hack almost identical to your new idea. It gives you the option to choose different careers which work similar to what you are describing. You can be a gym leader, breeder, researcher etc, this would be an awesome advancement in the Pokemon series and would give the games some variety and replay value. (The Hack is called Mirage of tales btw if your interested).

They definitely need to change up their old storyline formula, I agree. They've been using it ever since their first game release, and for a lot of people, I'm sure it's gotten pretty boring. They could still follow it, but seeing it done less often would be nice.
