Nicknames

I have Bubblegum the Psyduck and Alabaster the Rhydon on my Gen 4 games. I don't normally nickname, but they were shiny and I couldn't help myself.

I don't really like to nickname my Pokémon in my games. There are exceptions to this of course. I like to nickname the Seedot in my Emerald and I nickname all the Pokémon I use in challenges.

Usually I make an anagram such as:

Gorebyss:Sybregos

Samurott:Tumtoras

Sometimes they actually sound good. Usually they don't.

I almost never nickname my Pokemon. I sometimes rename my HM Slaves so that their names suit their jobs. For instance, I had a Lugia that I turned into an HM Slave (it seemed too defensively powerful and too cheap for my main team, besides Aeroblast has such low PP). It's main job, other than to Fly me to places, was to use Surf. So I named it Poseidon. Similarly, my Ursaring whom I used for Dig, Strength, Rock Smash etc was named Ironfist.

I name everything, lol. I think the best names are my FireRed team:

Wet Willie / Blastoise
Wonder Bra / Nidoqueen
Threesome / Dugtrio
Ovaries / Exeggutor

I also plan on having a Porygon named Cybering. :3c lolol so clever

Not in game but for my competitive Pokemon teams I've come up with a fair share of nicknames.

Swampwnt -> Swampert
Mechazor -> Bronzong
Ragnarok -> Salamence
Bahamut -> Garchomp
Leviathan -> Gyarados
Soul Reaper -> Dusknoir

And a whole bunch more.

I've never nicknames my Pokes, just a personal preference. I do feel like it could be a clever strategy if you do competitive battling...as in you can nickname your team so the person you're battling against won't know what to expect from you. ;o

I used to give nicknames to my more liked team members but that died down when B/W came around, probably because names stopped being all uppercase and therefore no longer bothered me. XD;

• mr. green (normal is green and it's a shiny rayquaza)
• ARKEYUS (one of three pronounciations of ARCEUS)
• krisina (gardevoir, I really dont know......)
• Tyson (cyndaquil, and no not tyson all white chiken nuggets -.- in honor of my wizard101 pet tyson the snow serpent)
• BLUE MOON (my shiny mew)
• DIA & KIA (dia is a dialga and kia is a palkia)
• MARINE (my genesect, RPG on his back)
• WOLF (reshiram)
• Mellow (meloetta)
• Tabby (shiny charizard, name of one of my comic book characters)
