This news was releaved yesterday when I was brosing gamespot.com, Nintendo is making a new console that will be the next Gamecube, this isn't the one that is a handheld, this one is a next gen console that will be revealved at E3 in 2005.

Here are the details about it, from gamespot.com:

Nintendo announced today that it will be releasing its next-generation console as originally planned, contradicting yesterday's Nihon Keizai Shimbun article that said Nintendo is postponing its plans to release a next-generation console. A report in the Mainichi Daily also revealed that Nintendo will be unveiling its next-generation console at E3 next year (in 2005).

According to Bloomberg Japan, Reuters, and various other publications, Nintendo's public relations chief Yasuhiro Minagawa said that Nintendo is still planning to release a next-generation console to succeed the GameCube in the same period as its competitors.

Referring to the recent Report by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun that Nintendo will be postponing the release of a next-generation console, Minagawa commented that, "It was supposed to mean that Sony and Microsoft are expected to release their next-generation consoles from 2005 to 2006, and we also won't be releasing one until that period." This echoed a statement given to GameSpot yesterday by Nintendo of America's director of corporate communications, Beth Llewellyn, who said that the Nikkei?s report was erroneous and based on "a lot of speculation."

Bloomberg Japan reports that Nintendo saw its late start in the current console wars as one of the reasons why GameCube sales fell behind the PlayStation 2's. In order to compete, out of the gate, with the next Xbox and the PlayStation 3, Nintendo says it is already developing a next-generation graphics processor with NEC and ATI Technology. ATI Technology is Nintendo?s current manufacturer of graphic chips for the GameCube console, which utilizes a DRAM process technology from NEC. Nintendo is developing its next-generation console's CPU in conjunction with IBM, who is also helping to develop the next Xbox CPU, in addition to the Cell processor that will be used in the PS3.

Nintendo also confirmed that new peripherals for the GameCube console will be released in 2005, but these will not affect the next-generation console's release. While no details on the devices have been revealed, Nintendo says the peripherals will expand the capabilities of the GameCube. Furthermore, Nintendo will release new games that will take advantage of them.

What do you think of this new console?

What I think is I need a pic of it. XD
Well can any one say "Next SSBM?".
I hope this one has a DVD player in it and I hope this is something that will blow the PS3 and The next X-Box away.
I read a report on Gamespot saying the next Nintendo consoles will focus solely on games.

I don't need a DvD player in my console..I've got a dvd player as is.
I'd rather get a console that delivers in the game department then a "multi" functional console that does DvD's badly.

    Hence why Gamecube owns.

What I'm really interested to know is how much farther can they go in the graphic area of this new console and if they would use the same kind of game discs.

    I hope they use full DVDs this time, it?s annoying with two disc games. X.x;

It better friggin be backwards compatible...if it's not then nintendo are a bunch of idiots (grammar?). And the opening game HAS to be a mario game...millions of people were mad at luigi's mansion, and rightfully so!

These game should come on the new console

SSBM 2 (super smash bros melee 2 would be a good name) :P
    Metroid Prime 3
    Soul Calibur 3
    And other good stuff

    BOO ya!

    *also wants to see pictures*
Personally though, I hope there will be backwards compatibility instead of DVD sized games.
So it will be unveiled at next year's E3? But when should we expect it to be officially on sale? 2006? Well whatever the outcome, I hope nintendo remembers to stays in their roots at least. It kept them afloat this long:P.

Lol, but Namco ported SCII from the arcade, dunno if they?d make a new one for the consoles.

And hoping that they FOCUS ON GAMES!! Shikes, if they keep on abusing the fact that there is internet they will die a horrible painful death of gruesome agonizing torture..

    or something like that...

I think that this new console should also have some sort of online capibilites, think of Gameube for example, I bet some people don't even know that Gamecube can go online with the modem adapter or the broadband adapter, but the thing is the only game really that can play online is Phantasy Star Online, but you have to pay for it. Also it would make more sales for Nintendo which they will obviously love.

yep, and that is why nintendo isn't thinking...

I swear, iwata is ruining the company with his new ownership...hmm...

The only reason X-Box is still alive is for online play, if there were no such thing as internet, X-Box would have died its second year...

    BOO ya!
