Notice the similarities? B/W = Kanto

Anyone else noticed how similar the B/W series is to the original one?

Ash catches all three starter pokémon again. Mijumaru is a bold one, a bit like Squirtle. Pokabu was abandoned, much in the same way Charmander was. Tsutarja is strong and won't let Ash catch her unless he proves he's worthy, like Bulbasaur did.

Also, Ash meets a gym leader early on without knowing she is: Iris. In Kanto he met Misty, as you should know xD

And a leader from the first gym decides to follow Ash on his journey because it would help him become the greatest I-don't-know-what-it's-called-that-Dent-does! Exactly like Brock did with his pokémon breeder dreams. + Dent cooks for the others. Seen that before?

Do you think they did these similarities unintentionally, or do they maybe want to press that it's a completely new region and a fresh start - thus mimicking much from the real beginning?

Do you find more similarities to strengthen the theory? :3 The early bird probably doesn't count since Ash has a strange affinity for catching birds in every region...

I think that this is very true. Black & White are trying to go right back to the roots of Pokemon so this makes perfect sense. A lot of the Pokemon are similar to the originals ones as well, in the way that they are original. It is hard to explain.

Yes that is exacly what they are doing. That is why I am thinking there is goign to be more sagas in the based in the United States.

I honestly think those sorts of things are sort of obvious o_0 but yeah, that's the idea, mirror the beginnings of the Original Series.

Which, in my opinion, means the following:
    1. Ash will fail the league epically
    2. Iris will leak some feelings for him
    3. We will finally find out who Ash's father is...
    4. ...Because this might be the last saga

Think about it, why would they want to mirror and mimic the beginning? Why now? Why not the 4th generation? It would have made a bit more sense, but why would they want to do that in the first place? This does not only imply some very predictable elements, but also the fact that this could be the last saga.

But... I'm just speculating. Remember, the writers intended to just end it with the first season. Gold and Silver came along, so they had to drag. This brought in the situation where time continui elements made no sense, plot holes popped up, paradoxes ensure, mechanics made no sense. Not to mention the DP anime did not receive the best feedback.

I might be wrong, there may not be a special reason to mirroring the original series, but if there is, it's most likely that it's been realized that Ash's chapter should end, not necessarily the anime itself, since the games will still go on and will need something to accompany it.

So basically, what would happen is that BW mimics OS, but the final outcome would be that maybe Ash wins a league, and in some sort of creative/dramatic way he will no longer be the star of the show.

Sorry... but you know, the imitations do have to get you thinking.

I don't think this points to the end of Ash's adventure in anyway, considering that the games are heavily enforcing this fresh start as well. The Unova dex is composed entirely of new Pokemon, the routes have been reset, etc. It's really not that odd for the anime to be having a real fresh start. But who knows, you could be right.

Here's something else I found: While Brock caught a Zubat offscreen in Kanto, Jessie caught a Woobat offscreen in Unova (both Pokemon are the regional bats, Zubat in Kanto and Woobat in Unova).

Why go back to its roots you say? To do the opposite of what your thinking Advancedk47 so Ash can keep traveling. In Kanto Ash lost too, so if your saying its going back, than well. The only ones I see leaving this saga is Team Rocket possibly, they've been having so much lack of screen time its not even funny. They even missed an episode, some thing they haven't done since the first or second episode of Pokemon. We may finally see Ash take down Team Rocket once and for all. Forgot to answer the question, yes I do see similarties between Best Wishes and Kanto, I saw that ever since I found out the info of Best Wishes.

I hope you're right AK47. Ash needs to go. Though it seems unlikely seeing as they didn't use someone else for the "fresh start". The similarities are obvious and I'm starting to think that it is a rip and we the viewers are getting cheated. Again, AK47 is right, the Anime is clearly loosing its lustre. Though like the first series, I think Ash's companions will drag on for one more and them it will all end :)

I hadn't noticed that xD But true.

I think Ash will never quit the anime. It wouldn't be nearly the same without him and Pikachu. Pokémon Chronicles, anyone? Pikachu is their main mascot.

Hm, I hadn't thought about the possibility for the creators to do all these similarities to sort of wrap it up. Now that you mention it, though. I think Ash should win the league for once. Then he'd be a master and the show could end.

I think it's symbolic of Gen V being a system reboot; Ash is seemingly brain-dead, and there are many parallels with the previous seasons.
Think of it as atonement for most of Gen IV.

You may be right about Ash's father. Maybe Ash will battle his father at the Unova League.

I think this mirroring to the original series is very refreshing.
    Just like old times.....sort of.

Yeah, I understand that Team Rocket doesn't seem to do much in this series.
But I kind of like them this way. They actually act like real agents, instead of wacky, tedious doofuses.

Team rocket has missed a ep before ... oops wrong thread :P

But yeah there is a lot of sames if you think about it. Though it 1st poke fail wasnt the regional bird
You notice how it restarted, team rocket is back to serious (im one who loves it, quiet)
Ash meets his partners the same. As the reason for the start people think is b.c ash woke up (the pikachu shock with the spearows?)which is why there isnt any mention of the previous, and ash's mind has reset completly.

B&W is getting serious, i mean if you look at movie 14. biggest crisis??!?
    Thats a joke^ :/

Anyways I would love this to be the end of ash (I love ash and the current anime but yeah)

    -Ash meets his dad.
-ho oh mystery done. (connection with ash) *i think he belongs with ashes dad*
-ash might win =O or not.
I would love this series to have lots of good drama.

Yah, you're probably right. If I could see this as some kind of remake, it'd be an exceptionally refined one. Well, at least Team Rocket stopped blasting off for the time being. ;D

oh wow, i don't notice any of these. i guess it could sort of be a remake.
    nostalgia.

If this is a "remake" its just a half a**ed attempt at best. You can't do a remake of something from the past WITHOUT showcasing anyone from it. Plus Iris really does look like a badly done Misty clone in several ways. Give me the original any day and not this.

Lol? This isn't a remake. Best Wishes is simply mirroring elements from the original series. It's not some sort of unholy remake attempt. Don't like it? I recommend you don't start your B&W because it's been about 6 years and we still can't seem to be getting enough of that from Misty fans :)

    1. Ash will fail the league epically No doubt.
    2. Iris will leak some feelings for him Maybe, but let's see them high-five as much as Dawn did. XD
    3. We will finally find out who Ash's father is... I'd love to think so, but it seems unlikely as he isn't even spoken about.
    4. ...Because this might be the last saga We don't know that for sure :P

The fact that team rocket is going badass might also be a sign that pokemon is trying to go back towards its routes.

Also, a "sommelier" (what Dent is), is a waiter in charge of wines... A pokemon waiter. xD

This dose not surprise me at all that they're doing this. This anime has been going on for so long that they're no doubt running out of fresh ideas.
Plus to the target audience in the United States it is not such a bad thing sense the odds are they have never even seen the older seasons.
