Now that they've introduced Fairy to combat Dragon...

I think Dragon should have been super effective against Fairy and vice-versa. But dragons were everywhere last gen, so maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to nerf them so much.

One Way I look at it is there isn't any other type that is super effective against itself is there? (If there is I overlooked it) so I dont see how Dragon having it makes sense.
Ghost is super-effective against itself.

I do agree that from one standpoint, it seems really weird that a type could be super-effective against itself, but from a game standpoint its not such a bad idea.

There's no doubt that Fairy was introduced initially to nerf Dragons. However, they haven't become that much worse in a sense. Most (usable) fairies have weaknesses from their secondary typings that dragons, with their expansive move pools, can take advantage of. They don't even normally attack with their primary STAB, as it hits nothing for super effective damage except other Dragons.

I don't see them adding another type.

Fairy is a beastly powerful stab to have, play rough and Moonblast are pretty devastating; especially with how scantily they're resisted, and how much they can hit super effective. So much so I'm not even satisfied with their current status. Moonblast is just about the only 95 base power secondary effect special move left, since Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Flamethrower all got that minute nerf to 90 - and Dragon pulse, down to freakn' 85, AND Moonblast's secondary effect, lowering the target's special attack, has a THIRTY percent chance of taking effect. I get that they wanted to nerf dragons, I wanted dragons nerfed myself. I'm alright with fairies too, it seems like a neat typing that fits in well. But the moves, arrrghhh.

I wish Game Freak would've given them more than 4 moves. I've never seen anything, ever use another fairy attack move besides Moonblast, Dazzling Gleam, Play Rough, and like ONE TIME I saw a sylveon with draining kiss. What else is there anyways, fairy wind? Disarming voice? And don't even get me started on dazzling gleam's distribution. Freakn' gengar, ghost/poison, "Shadow" species pokemon, getting dazzling gleam?!?! (yes, I know it's great for gengar - but it doesn't make a lickitung of sense to me) How about fairy gets more different moves, moonblast gets put on the same playing field as every other type's standard powerhouse special attack, and instead of "Everyone gets dazzling gleam!" we get another fairy attack that makes sense on more things.

/end rant

Poison jab on my haxorus does pretty well cleaning up unsuspecting fairies. Fairy type pokemon aren't that strong defensively as opposed to specially defensive.

In a way, I believe it does make sense, sort of. If you've seen in movies, you'd notice that dragons do get along with each other quite well (at least in most cases), but when they're upset and fight off against themselves, they wreak havoc like no other.

Ghost-types could be taken similarly, I suppose!

I wouldn't have thought so purely based on the fact that Fairy isn't a widely popular type on people's teams (apart from the likes of Gardevoir etc) so the fact that it's not as widespread as say Fire-types or something keeps Dragons still relatively safe imo and able to retain the air they had before :) Plus, from what I've seen there don't appear to be many offensive Fairy type moves apart from Dazzling Gleam and a couple others, although I could be wrong on that :)
