Great on a tablet though.

There's JoJo and Mushishi sequel. Those two are definitely good. Mahouka is okay. I think I'll like it a lot more by the time it ends. The one I'm enjoying the most alongside JoJo is No Game No Life for now. And Gokukoku no Brynhildr is a series I'm just watching for the sake of watching - mostly to see what the creator of Elfen Lied, my personal worst anime, does with it. Though I must admit it is entertaining. And much better than Elfen Lied already. But we'll see.
Black Bullet is Eotenas rip-off and Brynhildr is... well... generic...

But of course, Mahouka is the best. I probably like more things than you guys.
Obviously we know that.

Make a thread for one of these, then! ;)
Ehm... it's Lappy =D If he watches some anime, there won't be a discussion because most of the others won't know it =D

Titans was obviously the first humanity against monsters type of show, it isn't like that's been a staple of anime since the 70s or anything.

I only watch those hipster shows, because those exist.

Wonder why anime fans are cool with mediocrity, spread your wings and fly, people.

Humans with super speshul powers fighting monsters. It's an obvious clone riding on the back of Titan's success, m44. The anime industry stopped coming up with unique ideas in 2013 so we might as well just watch things about magical high schools.

Though I do agree, there needs to be something new in the industry other than fanservice pandering.
The anime industry is pretty much on life support. It's alive, but it's in a vegetative state. It's kept alive by otaku pandering garbage, especially the Light Novel ones that seem to be the worst offenders.

Anime has always been kept alive by pandering to otaku and children. I mean the entire mecha genre was created to sell toys to otaku.

Haven't noticed it being as prevalent in other mediums tbh. Of course it is there but surely not as heavily as our crazy chinese tunes.

Well its because the Japanese government had realized half a decade ago that otaku pandering is the only constant demographic that spends on domestic goods. And since the Japanese economy has been at an anemic state for 25 years, they'd been willing to promote it. Unlike the West (until recently) which was on a spending spree.

Just had a look at some stats about anime sales and they are half of what they were just a decade ago. I guess easier access to torrents will have done that. When sales go down the industry has to sell something, other merch like figma and sadly the figma buying people have pretty specific needs.

I do know that Sunrise robot models started up in the 80s, which I believe was slap bang in the middle of Japan's financial bubble. Helping keep their economy afloat certainly wasn't what the creator of those things had in mind.

THE INDUSTRY IS DYING talk aside though I actually think the last couple of years have been good. 2011 truly did try to kill it but it recovered, 2013 was better than 06/07 spell for me.

Natsume is a 7/10 franchise but F/Z was pretty rubbish.

Nichijou, Gintama', Usagi Drop and Tamayura the stand out series for me. There were a few more 6s and 7s but considering it was from more than 100 things it really wasn't good.

I guess saying that the anime industry is dying is just wrong, since Doraemon, Sazae-san, Chibi Maruko-chan, Detective Conan etc are still getting good ratings. I mean, that's the mainstream that the whole Japan watches. The garbage that's killing the industry is just niche crap pandering to certain groups, bat♥♥♥♥ groups that probably buy multiple copies of things they support. I mean the idols are basically supported by bat♥♥♥♥ fans buying thousands of their singles. So some stuff might be doing good because some people bought more copies haha.

Over-sized monsters killing people, only special trained people can beat them.
Plus there's MC voiced by Yuuki Kaji.
Attack on Titan didn't invent that. If anything, Attack on Titan feels like a Muv Luv Alternative rip off in that area.

They are also both anime. Neither of those series are original whatsoever.

Spoiler:

Over-sized monsters killing people, only special trained people can beat them.

Funny, I seem to recall more anime about monsters that only specially trained people can beat.
Like, I don't know... Bleach? I mean, only specially trained souls can do all those ♥♥♥♥ we've seen in the series.
And there's a lot more from where that came from.
