Activision has bragged about Modern Warfare 2 selling 10 million units, solidifying that franchises always rule. However, while MW2 was riding a high wave of publicity and PR, another franchise was released around the same time; New Super Mario Bros. Wii. And it instantly became the fastest selling game in Japan, and has to date sold 3 million copies there, according to Famitsu.

Count in the sales from North America, 4 million, and Europe, 3 million, you get 10 million games sold + at least half a million in Australia and the rest of the world (like Korea and China), sales pass on the other side of 10 million, and surpass Modern Warfare 2, which was always thought to be the best selling game at this time.

It's not. The best selling game is New Super Mario Bros Wii.

MW2 has shifted way more than 10mil, those are outdated figures.

Well considering mw2 saw 1.2mil sales in the UK on it's first day. that's a third of what nsmbwii has sold in Europe (with the UK being tiny compared to Europe, let's not forget that the UK was included in nsmbwii's europe overall sales to boot) I'd dare say mw2 probably still holds the title.

and we'll let MW 2 be the best selling game, from what have heard the first MW is better..If you excuse me metriod awaits me...

The first mw had a somewhat better community, that's about it. I dunno it just seems a bit insulting that a game that cost well into the millions to make and took over 2 years is even considered to be on par with a DS port that has a few added levels.

It was was the same with brawl, and look what happened with that, only thing good about MW 2 is multi player..hmm ?

While I got to sample the New Super Mario Bros Wii., and if I had a Wii I would buy it in a heartbeat, its no MW2 with its crazy main game (so over the top) and its good (but over busted on for the PC) multiplayer.

To me it seems a bit insulting that tastelessly violent games like MW2 are so well-recieved by the gaming public. The fratcore will surely be the end of our gaming industry.

Let's forget the story, graphics, gameplay, music, characters etc.
I understand you're a Nintendo fan and 4 of the 5 above factors are probably foreign to you (the one that i'll give nintendo is music) but don't go knocking a game you clearly haven't played.

    story, graphics, gameplay, music, characters

Modern Warfare 2 successfully tricked a generation of gamers into thinking that it's proficient in the above.
In what way was anyone tricked? I don't see having well rounded characters, a well written story (especially for a fps) a score by Hans Zimmer and smooth, easy to operate game mechanics with fun challenges and the hollywood esque cliffhanger of an ending as any form of trickery.

    Have you actually played it?

We're not talking about the total amount of money earned, but the units sold. It pays off to read the posts before you reply.

I understand that you are probably a die hard Nintendo fan, but you have to recognize that other systems can have great games too.

I haven't played MW2 or NSMB Wii, but if I had the money I'd probably choose MW2, because I'd be able to play such a fantastic game with all of my friends.

The storyline in Modern Warfare 2 isn't that good. It's rather mediocre compared to the games of 2009.
The gameplay, however, is where the game excels. It's nothing innovative (it doesn't have to be), but it's solid for a shooter and done well.

one reason i think it sold more than mw2 is do too the fact its geared too all ages and mw2 is geared toward 18 too 30 year olds
i mean i could care less wich sold more thata dosent say wich is better it just says that its more of a wide age base
