I've been out of the TCG game since the 1st Gen Gym Leader set was considered new. Ever since then I haven't been interested, but now I somewhat am. I'm just wondering which cards/sets have been considered the "best" since the Gym Leader set, and were any cards in the Team Rocket or Gym Leader set useful at all? Thanks in advance.

The best set is almost without exception the latest one to be released. As is, in North America, that set is Legends Awakened. Cards from those sets (Team Rocket, Gym Challenge) were useful when they were released, but hardly stand up to the new cards (And by hardly, I'm saying things like that the new cards have almost twice the HP value, better powers and bodies, better trainers, and attacks with about half the energy cost).

Yeah, Legends Awakened is a pretty good set to buy, and it probably has the best cards you could possibly look for.

I think one of the best cards from Legends Awakened would be Regigigas. You can put it into virtually any deck.
LOL. Regigigas? Regigigas sucks pokeballs. YOU are a MAJOR n00b.There is no greatest sets but all the DP sets are legal so I would suggest buying those. Great Encounters has Claydol which EVERY good deck needs.

Aside from this being a very rude comment (which is what a n00b does, newbie would be the term more appropriately used instead in your post; look it up), Regigias is a pretty bad card like this poster said, requiring 3 different kinds of energy to attack, 4 energy to retreat, a 2x weakness to fighting, a Poke-Body that requires your opponent to have captured 3 prizes already, and an attack that loses 66.7% of its power if it is sent in against an opposing Pokemon that already has damage counters on it.

I was talking about the lv. 48 Regigigas, collector's number37/146.

This Regigigas sucks too. 3 for 60, possible 80 and 20 bench, 4 RC! You can waste 3 turns getting out a Regigigas, but more than likely it won't last more than 2 turns.

I put it in my deck for three reasons.

    1. Recover Mechanism I have a recovery deck (Torterra DP, Beaytifly DP, Potion, Pokemon Night Center, etc.) and this Poke Body was great for it.

    2. Offense Gigaton Puch is a very offensive attack, dealing up to 100 damage (spread out) in one turn.

    3. Retreat Cost Never Bothers Me I always have plenty of spare Energys and don't even need to retreat Pokemon often.

Does the Legends Awaken set have valuable cards? (Not in battle but with prices?)
For example, the old base set's Charizard used to be sought out for, but Jungle's set wasn't that valuable..

What do you think is the most valued set at the moment?

(I am also an old player that is recently interested..)

I also have an old DCI number for tournament play.. it has 8 digits.. but I hear they have a new 10 digit system now.. do any of you know how I can upgrade?

    10 digits???

It's only 6 digits, called a POP ID.

    Example:123456

Kind of weird that 4 old people would get back in at the same time. I forgot I had an account here.

So I'm getting back in too, and was a little upset about finding out only the most recent six packs are viable. Is this the case outside of tournaments too? (I would assume among pros it would be, but friends it wouldn't.)

Does the last 6 packs things include all my old energy cards, and reprinted trainer cards?

What would the best starter deck be at this time? Tin? How can I create a good, cheap noob deck?

One last thing. I'm a long time yugioh fan, and in yugioh there is always just one deck type that always wins, with the top 16 players running basically the same deck at every tournament. Is it the same here? Where could I find the best decklists? Are there any top players I should be aware of? What are the primary strategies players utilize in pokemon trading card game? ( In yugioh it's card advantage and drawing right now, along with graveyard/discard pile control)

    thx!

All reprints are tourney legal and even the form of play is called modified, thats the just DPPt ones, but standard play allows u to use old cards, just know that most old cards dont stand up to the new ones. And about the winning decks, because of this constantly changing format no there are many winning deck combinations, no cheap strategies that win every time. The best starter deck would be one that is made of types or pokemon that you like so you can use it as a base for building your own decks.

Ok, so I could still use all my energies and potions in all my matches? cool.

And so, officially, if I went to a tournament, I could still use my old swampert/ludicolo deck? (Not that I would, times have changed, so I probably should get a new starter deck).

Surely one starter deck is better than another. I just finished reading a regigigas hate thread, so I guess the Heatran deck would be better.

I heard the lavaflow top 20d a tournament.

What are the best cards in todays format? Which ones are most valuable? Which ones are highly sought after?

hopefully these will be the last questions before I go out and buy some stuff.

    thx!
