If it is just a regular Wailord it probably doesn't need to be checked.

You should check out the pokemon's information more closely before trading for them. There are plenty of sites around that give you event's basic information.

According to Bulbapedia, all of them one way or another if I'm reading it correctly. Don't know which one this would be from, as the friend wouldn't say, but I assume it is a Ranger Manaphy rather than an event one.

It is a Ranger Manaphy and there isn't anyway to check it's legitimacy since you can't trade. However, everything looks normal.

I don't know about all of them, but there is a Ranger game that does, as I have gotten it on Diamond before.

Apparently met at is the key indicator of illegitimacy. Palparked Pokemon do not have this word.
