Phanphy evolves into Donphan.

PAX was pretty fun. LineCon 2015 was not.

Oh God I hope you're not talking about where-the-fuck-is-my-accent-from Vanille.

EEEEYYYYUUUUPPPP

Honestly, as the first voice I heard in the game was her narrating, it got my hopes up that it was Lightning's voice I was hearing and that all inhabitants of Cocoon had English accents. Boy was I disappointed.

If Lighting's voice was Vanille's, I don't think I could handle XIII. Or take her character seriously, really. Because...have you gotten to play Vanille yet? Like, is she apart of the story at all for you yet?

Oh, and by the way, if it helps, the sexiest voice in the game belongs to a British-accented co-ed.

It doesn't?

*Looks at Lightning*

I dunno, the non-existent smile, cold demeanor, and our-soldiers-are-different design kinda tipped me off. I like her, though. I'm not as obsessed with her as the developers (who are pretty damn obsessed).

Though aside from the resident Laura Bailey (Who is affectionately known to Snow as SERAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH), Sazh is definitely my favorite character. He's actually my Xbox Live Avatar. Not changin' that :q

Also, a word to the wise, check the codex. It's not called a codex but...you know...that thing that has extra information about the world and terms and stuff. In some games it's called a codex, but I don't know what it is here.

Anyway, the reason for this is, if you hear a term or see a scene (like a flashback) that ends and you expect it to be built on, it won't. This game doesn't explain very many things to you so if a flashback happens or they say something you don't completely understand, check the codex because it contains information without ever really giving any indication that you'll be learning new stuff. Because generally the information in these isn't essential to understanding the story. I'd say on a more objective level it's one of the game's biggest flaws.

I've barely played XII at all tbh. x:

I'm probably gonna pick it up at some point now that I have a PS3, though.

Yeah, I read the data... olo... codex, whenever I get the chance to.

Chocoboman is cool.

Seeing slight hints at how the devs obsess over Lightning. I've got three XIII-related Steam trading cards. They're all named after different locations of the game... and all of them just have pictures of Lightning looking cool. Although I doubt the devs had anything to do with that specifically. :P
I have, of course, heard about all her different costumes in one of the sequels.

Yeah, it gets bad once you really look at the other works. She's practically the main character of a crossover FF game, they promote her a lot, the third game is mostly just Lightning (though this can be seen less as obsessing and more as her being the main character of the series)- she's everywhere. I like her, but they need to calm down, because it seems like they're trying to turn her into this antholigical series' flagship protag. But it's an anthology. An anthology.

But yeah, the third XIII is basically Lightning Dress-Up. Sounds silly, but it's loads of fun. The concept's cool, the gameplay's cool, and the customization's fun.

Sounds good then. Back when my interest in video games was pretty much nil outside of Pokémon and some MMOs, everything I'd seen made it pretty clear to me that this Final Fantasy franchise was all about this pink-haired chick and her high-definition adventures. Even more so with the sequel(s). Imagine my surprise when the earlier games turned out to be way different--both from XIII and from each other.

That said, I've no problem with the evident J-popification and, I suppose, casualization going on in the later titles such as this one. I know a lot of people don't like X-2, but the only problem I have with it is how fucking difficult and obscure it is to get 100% completion (would still pick X if given a choice between the two to play though). So far this game has been corridors and autopilot combat with beautiful presentation, and I'm a-okay with that situation.

Since I'm usually the type to prefer tactical turn-based RPG combat a la Bravely Default or Divinity: Original Sin I worried a bit about this much more time... obsessed(!) system, but so far it's good if not a bit too easy.
