I just had an idea that would solve the problem of people who can't go to the pokemon events becaus they aren't near them.

What if they simply made it so you have to connect to wifi, maybe the GTS and you would recieve an item attached to some pokemon..Say, magikarp.
So you would do this during a certain period of time, and you would recieve the item for the event. (Oak's Letter, Azure Flute, Members Pass etc.)

This seems like its do-able and possibly, similar to how if you connected to Wifi with Animal Crossing at some point, you would revieve a letter from Sateru Iwata(sp?)

    So...What do you think?

It's do-able. There's a Mystery Gift Feature that allows us to receive a gift through WiFi though nothing uses it as of now.

I would really like Nintendo to do online events, though I won't expect them to release the tickets/rare Pokemons.

Yeah... then it would not be as rare... but it would still be nice! Also if they did events on the GTS people would be gobbling them up in 3 secs!

Unfortunately, the entire point of event Pokémon is so that they are rare; only the select few who went to the event are supposed to get it. And the items in question are key items, thus they cannot be attatched to Pokémon.

That would be a good thing, but if it were to be GTS, or anything WiFi, they would be gone in an hour or less. Still would be great for those in countries like Aus, like me, who get practically no events.

Maybe... but, Nintendo would never do that. They use the events to make more money, the Darkrai event is just so they'll get customers to buy DVD's and all other things. I bet that's also why they're doing Pokemon Showdown.

that would kill the thrill of special event
and because rare polemon like that have a classic ribbon so no GTS travel for them
The Darkrai event is at Toys R Us I mean there are like 6 of them I can go to

I miss when they had it at world nintendo

if nintendo released these pokemon via WIFI they would lose there rarity. however i had got a solution.

when connected to wifi, you must enter a password before downloading the item/pokemon. this password could be obtained online via the nintendo WIFI website, provided only to certain people (perhaps the first 10000 people who sign up to recieve the password) this could then be entered in on your ds and get downloading.

perhaps the password could only be active for around a day, therefore stopping people posting up the password online enabling anyone to get it at any time.

Well, it sounds possible, but i agree with DeanoDance. Also, DeanoDance mentioned the slight problem:

Oak's letter, Azure flute and Member card are all Key Items, which means they can't be equipped to a Pokémon. Therefore if they were to put, say, an Azure flute onto a Magikarp so people can obtain it via wi-fi, they would basically be tampering with the coding of the game. It would be cool if it would be made possible, though :).

    EDIT: whoa, my 500th post!

yea but that has a downside.

that would make it possible to send key items over wifi, which means (And this is a example that i think of off the top of my head) you could have someone misusing this, to send keys and stuff to someone who has just started the game, possibly ruining the game (you could just skip parts of the game, think how easy the game would be if you had every key item from the moment you get your first pokemon)

the mystery gifts are only for obtaining rare items like
    the secret poke apps
    magmaizer
    elecizer
    lucky egg
and all that sort of stuff

not really magmorizer and electrizer though :|

you already get them on wild magby and elekid respectively

Nintendo wants us to go to all of their events, but they can do it, but since they want us to go to all of there events, there not going to do it

Why are people calling the items (Azure Flute, Letter from Oak, Members Key) Event Items, when they haven't even been released, yet? Besides, there are loads of Action Replay users out there hacking the items into their games.. why don't Nintendo save them having to do that, just so they can actually complete the game, and set the items to be claimed via Wi-Fi, instead of people going to an Event to get the, frankly stupid, items?

Well, because of the reasons above. Nintendo are just like every other company; looking for ways to get cash. Unfortunately, Events are one of those things, and if these items are going to be left for Events, its probably one of the most pointless things Nintendo have done; setting the Mystery Gift to acquire something Via Wi-Fi, when it isn't going to be used.

    Summary:
    Event Pokemon = Unique
    Event Item = Really stupid.

Fine; there were no online capabilities with Generation 1 through 3, but Generation IV does. for distribution of the items, at the very very least, they should use Wi-Fi.

..and to connect to the Wii, for PBR (and/or others) stuff, you use the Wireless option, don't you? Since after all, you don't need to go online to connect to a console that you're literally 3 feet away from..

*deep breath* I've ranted enough, I think, about the deep stupidity of Nintendo's ideas. I'll leave it at that.

that would be awesome but i dont think nintendo would do that i think maybe they might have an event in the us for that shaymin movie next year or something thats just what i think i dont know but i dont think nintendo would send rare pokemon or items via WiFi thats not popular they just want us to go to the events to buy the merchandise for the movie of pokemon they are coming out with

Well, there have been some events given out over the GTS. They havn't been "event-only" Pokemon, but they're still events. I think these includes the GameFreak Psyducks, some kind of Octillery, & a few more (I think).

yeah, thats cool but it will not happes as that is simple and it doesn't invole people driving trillions of miles to get a handful of pixels.
Grr. Nintendo, I think, will go bankrupt soon, as money is the root of all evil. (And nintendpo are rich so yeah, they must be fairly evil)

We're in the age of the Internet, and suddenly, they decide it isn't popular? I fail to see that. sending the items via Wi-Fi WOULD be popular, because people would still get the Legendaries, and they would still be able to hold their precious events with Event Pokemon; how it should be, now that the Internet has thrown itself into Nintendo technology.

It would actually be the perfect test, to see how well it went over; no doubt it would be insanely popular, and ergo, everyone's happy. Nintendo still get to hold their events with Event Pokemon, and the population of fans would still be able to actually complete the National Dex normally, without using AR. Or as normal as can be.
