One thing that seems to pop up on me sometimes is the notification which lets me know I've received a Private Message. Now I'm not really one for opening new windows of the same internet browser, so I thought maybe for the pop-up, add a "Open in new tab" button so you can simply open the new PM in a new tab, instead of a new window.

    Thoughts?

Actually, you can do all of this in your browser settings. For instance, if you're using FireFox as your internet browser (and I'm sure this applies to other internet browsers as well), if you click on Tools located on your Menu Bar, then select Options you should see an option to edit how new windows should open in your browser.

For me it's Tools > Options > Tabs > Select "Open new windows in a new tab instead."

When I usually get a pop up alterting me that I have a new PM, and I select to see it, a new tab or window isn't really ever opened for me. It just reloads the same page to the PM that was sent. So, see if this works for you, because it's probably just your browser settings that have it this way for you.

Not sure if this is right...but is that not just because you've clicked "Open in current window" instead of "Open in new window"?

I think what Alternative means is that it'd be good to have a third option of "Open in new tab". After all, most browsers now use tabs (even IE - although I still think it's horrendously ugly and slow). And it does seem pointless to open it in a new window, on the same site, using the same browser, rather than just putting the message into a new tab. It'd also help keep the Taskbar (Or whatever the equivalent is on a Mac)clear for when you have lots of programs running

Sadly that's true, it's really all down to how you configure your browser, but it's possible to set most modern browsers to open ALL Pop-up windows in a new tab, rather than spawning a new window. Just read the browser docs, Google it, or look in your browser settings menus for such an option. :p

I think he means just the PM, not all windows opening in tabs.

On a PC with Firefox you can right-click on a link and choose "open in new tab" or hold the Control key as you click on it. The Mac version of this is Command-click. I haven't tried it (my PC's not working) so I'm not sure if it works on buttons like that, but it works almost everywhere. However I know for a fact it doesn't work on Youtube for some reason.
