OU (no Mega) Ladder

Smogon has introduced an OU ladder with all Mega Evolutions banned. Are you going to give it a try? Any predictions on what will rise in usage due to the lack of Megas? Are there any Pokemon that you've had more success with in this format? Discuss! Feel free to share you ladder ratings as well.

Knock Off looks to be bs but we will have to see. Gothitelle seems even more annoying/broken cos it can just trick shit if mega stones didnt existing and just no skill the fuck out of you. Infact Trick in general too.

Anyway most megas are ridiculous so this pleases me. Their stats are basically that of a psuedo uber pokemon and i dare say they are only ou on the premise they share the same name as Ou and below pokemon. They often have better typing, stats and movepool and abilities than that of ubers. Take Mega metagross for example a 700BST pokemon allowed in OU. Idc that it wasnt banned, but just seriously think about that 700bst and its movepool and abilities. In gen 4 or 5 this thing would have been quick banned never mind suspected and to think mega pokemon like this are now the "norm" and acceptable in ou speaks volumes about the insane power creep which imo is not healthy for balance. Im really looking forward to laddering in this metagame anyway (i havent laddered properly since BW because of the power creep) and imo strives towards a balanced metagame that doesnt force team match ups. Its a great decision and takes into account what most people want in a metagame and i like the fact they can choose which one to play.

So yeah this sums up my thoughts on this. The only thing that sucks with this is they are thinking about reintroducing not bullshit megas eventually.....i dont see the point in this. Keep them away or you will just end upwith something too similar to what we have now. I mean Mega Audino and Steelix arent broken but i still idk about that one lol. :\

Why would they think about doing that? Kinda defeats the purpose of a no Megas OU =/

Some Megas may not have as much of a detrimental effect on the metagame like the more common ones do. It's an experiment after all. Maybe they'll split up the formats later. One with a few Megas allowed and another with none.

It sounds a little bit like a complex ban in disguise and considering that they usually don't like doing these...seems a little bit contradicting to me.

That meta sounds interesting, though. Especially since I always seem to have a hugh problem putting a mega on my team (not that I'm particularly good at teambuilding to begin with). At least the pressure to always having to put a Mega on every team would be gone...

sounds like a good idea, ferreal

Although it is strange they'd consider working 'meh' megas back in eventually. Basically mirroring typical OU where it started with all in, and they gradually pick overpowered ones out one by one, so here they'll start with none -and gradually allow underpowered ones in one by one? xD that's kinda defeating the purpose of a 'no megas' playlist, iddnit? Why not just name it "OU 2: Backwards Electric Boogaloo" Cuz really, it'd just be a separate run of an OU balancing act starting from the polar opposite end of the spectrum ban-wise.

It's good, but just- keep megas out, if you're gonna make it separate.
