Having interactive applications for smartphones and tablets would be a great idea. Support for the Apple, Android, and Blackberry platforms should cover most smartphone owners. There's also webOS and Ovi, but those markets are more niche.

I think that would be a good Idea, but we should make it Java so it could work on almost all phones, but a iOS exclusive app would be required otherwise people would have to jailbreak there apple devices.

I honestly think our time would be way better spent developing an official mobile/tablet style instead of making a whole new app.

Thats a good idea, but I think that a few themes are not so heavy bandwidth wise and can be used even on a EDGE connection. (Albeit extremely slowly)

It isn't the bandwidth usage that makes it annoying, it's the interface its self. Having to pan and scroll around to see everything is annoying--having a style designed to be used on a mobile device would let you see and access all information without the annoying zooming/scrolling/panning, etc.

Maybe Jake/Nick/me and some other people can collaborate on it or something. :]

I would pay for an official PC Android app if it was reasonably priced (like $0.99-$2.99). Para-Dox's idea of making an iOS exclusive app and a Java app (I can run that on Android just fine as most platforms are not as tightly controlled as Apple's).

I browse the full site on my phone because I get unlimited 3G/4G usage, but I would love an application because it could possibly sync with my phone to notify me of things like new PMs, profile messages, quotes in threads, replies to threads that I've started, and even (gasp!) any warnings or infractions that I might receive.

I know that asking for a bit much so I'm willing to pay a nominal fee for it.

    There was.
    Where did that go?

I think we should just create a lightweight theme that's subtable for phones etc

Hang about, I can recall around 2 years ago or so that Jake made a forum style specifically targeted towards mobile users, such as those who often browse on their iPhone and Android phones. Is there a reason why it was eventually removed? o_O

I would personally use https://www.pokecommunity.mobi as a method of mobile web browsing.

I believe that the new theme Simplistic would be the spiritual successor to the lightweight theme you're talking about.

there is a mobile app (iphone first, then android) for PC in the works.. In fact, we'd like your suggestions on styling and features for it.

No release date is set but it will be a dedicated, designed for PC app, not 3rd party.

I would highly recommend that you make a Java app instead of a Android app as that would make the application available to all platforms except for iOS, which would require it's own app.

Well I listed what features I would look for in my last post. As for styling: I'll have to think about that.

Anyway this is great news for me!

Maybe a Java app can be made in addition to the iOS and Android apps.

Also the .mobi site isn't supported by my mobile device. I don't know if this problem is widespread or not.

Nope, that's just a simple theme, I'm talking about one made for Phones and Phones alone.

It would be that the first time I go on here on my iPod, this is the first thread I see. To be honest it's not so bad on this.

The problem with an app that extensive is that it's a lot of time spent for very little return. I would hazard a guess that 10 members on PC, tops, would actually make use of that. 20 if we were lucky.

Totally Email/PM me when that is released!

I have an Android based phone and have developed apps for it before, so as a hobby-based thing one day I might look into doing it, but I'm not making any promises. In the mean time a lite-skin is a much better use of our time I think.

WOOHOO! I totally would love a PC android app. Please be sure to publish it on the market or make it easy to download the APK.

Also a must: It must support Android 1.6+
I will eat you if you publish an app for Froyo only. or Eclair only. Even though I use Eclair...I will eat you if you don't support all popular versions of the Android OS. >O

I don't see why it would need Eclair/Froyo and up unless they decide on lacing it Flash content that only those OS version (Flash Lite or Flash 10.1 respectively) can render.

Out of interest, is there a Blackberry app in the pipeline?

I've yet to see an SDK for blackberry apps... if you know of any.. feel free to let us know..

So, with that said, we don't foresee of one any time soon.

But pretty much everyone I know with a Blackberry either uses it only for business (the main target market) or, here at least, they only have a social networking plan meaning all they can do with them is check FB or twitter, no other internet usage/apps permitted. :( I don't think BB should be a big priority at first.
