Here is where you can discuss Pikachu's decision of being with its Trainer or its own kind in "Pikachu's Goodbye."

    My review to come forthwith.

    I love this episode.
Brings me to tears everytime I watch it.

I'm glad that Pikachu decided to stay with Ash.
And I get severly angry that Ash would even think to leave his beloved best friend running wild in a forest where anything could happen to him.
Just how I feel when he releases any of his other Pokemon..

The show wouldn't be the same without Pikachu.

OK. When I first watched this episode I hid behind a cushion and cried. Now when I watch it, the song is so cheesy you can take it off the screen...and the "Pikapipika"'s get annoying after a while.

Yeah, it's really weird that Ash would want to leave Pikachu behind, even if he did think it was for the best. He didn't even ask Pikachu, he just left it there and ran away. How cruel. Ash would never do that now.

No way would Ash do that now in the show, he's grown up....but yeah the first time I saw that episode I was feeling really sad...but hey, without Pikachu they show wouldn't be the same...so I'm glad Pikachu stayed with Ash...

It's definitively one of the greats of the first season, and bears fruit a moral conundrum that most episodes don't pit Ash in - not just rescuing Pikachu, but Pikachu's own potential good vs. Ash's and Pikachu's attachment. It also conveys the notion of wanting to harken to simplicity above all, in my opinion.

But I agree with Jorah on the track 4Kids used. It's not inherently bad in quality or gait but it's just way too sappy for my tastes. I did like the Pikachus singing with the flute and xylophone, though, as that synced well. But I tend to prefer the take of the original Japanese version from a musical perspective (what I've heard of it, anyway).

Well, technically, it was Brock's fault that Ash abandoned Pikachu, anyways (Maybe if he didn't say that whole thing about being happy with it's own kind, Ash would probably have not tried to abandon it, even IF it was, in his view, for Pikachu's best interests.).

YES, Brock was the one to blame for the whole matter. I mean, his mention of how Happy Pikachu is with it's own kind, implying that Pikachu is better off with it's kind than with Ash, which directly served as the cataclyst for Ash's decision (as, when he was sleeping while dreaming, it was Brock's mention of Pikachu's being happy that rang through his mind, not giving any mention of Misty's mention of how cute that they are singing together.).

BTW, did anyone notice that the nick-marks of some of the Pikachu's tails actually resembled the split tail of the Female Pikachu sprite? I mean, that may show that the split tail, unlike most gender differences, actually came from the Anime, and wasn't a Game invention. who else thinks this?

Definitely up there as one of the best episodes of the entire series thus far. Certainly an episode I don't think that anyone will ever forget.

The emotional power the entire episode has is amazing. I cried when I first watched it, not gonna lie XD

    Great episode is great.

Maybe it was just an animation thing like the pink Butterfree. But I don't know so I'm guessing here.

About the episode's 4Kids song, I agree that it was chessy. Just like that brother song from movie 1. The rest of the episode was nice and it was kind of touching. But when I watch it now, it seems boring.

    Rating: 8.3/10

Awww, I did pretty much the same thing the first time I saw it, cry that is. I was really convinced with the music and all that Pikachu was really going to leave Ash and that made me sad because I couldn't imagine the next episode starting without Ash's Pikachu.

But then he came back! Yay! The 2BA master song Together Forever really suited this episode. Oh, did you notice that in this episode, there were no Pichu's around? And then the next time Ash's group came back to Kanto, Pichus magically appear out of nowhere. XD

It wasn't really pikachu's good by. He was only gone for like a day.

My first was grave of the fire flies but that's going off topic but it was really sad.

I think I've mentioned this before in another topic.. but I remember when I was 9 or 10, and this episode aired for the first time, I thought it was sad. However, I didn't cry back then.. I never cried much, or got emotional over things when I was younger. These days TV shows, and anime will get me emotional real easy. xD I wanna say that I was about 15 years old before this episode ever made me cry.. the first Pokemon movie is a different story, though. I've always cried over that.

I remember I was 5 or 6 when I first saw this. I was literally bawling my eyes out.

I felt like cheering with all of the Pikachu when Ash and Pikachu were going to stay together.
