((OOC: let's make the situation even harder.))
Layne stumbled again, and then he heard Chunk speak. "I'm he-AAAAAAARGH...!"
Layne looked in the direction of the voice in time to see a glowing area through the light smoke. Layne made his way there. Upon seeing Chunk, Layne cursed to himself. "Sweet mother of mercy." Layne said under his breath trying to see exactly what had happened.
Chunk's energy was depleted, possibly to an all-time low, though Layne himself was wondering how he was managing to stand himself, or think properly. Wait.....he probably wasn't thinking clearly, otherwise he never would have shot that water pulse. His original theory had been correct to an extent. Chunk had suffered major damage from both slight electricution, and from the explosion itself. At least that was all Layne could piece together "We're never doing that again..." Layne muttered, loud enough for Chunk to hear.
"I'm f-fine...!" Chunk managed to say, "I'll just need-UGH...!" Another shock coursed through his body. Layne could only guess that Chunk was discharging excess electricity, the hard way, and the only way his body could afford to do it right now. Layne once again, was not an electric type, but he had seen and been involved with electric pokemon suffering from excess electricity. It varied from time to time on how long it lasted. Layne could not tell how long it would last, or how painful it would be. He had heard that pain also varied. Chunk was still wet, and Layne couldn't do much about that. Electricity, and water just didn't mix.
As for what Chunk had said about needing something, Layne couldn't figure anything out. But Layne heard more noise from the woods, noise he didn't like. The spring was still here, and tat basically meant this was one of the eyes of the storm. "What we need to do is get out of here."
It was obvious, that Chunk was out of energy, and Layne knew that feeling. Layne certainly wasn't unbeatable, and he himself had been beat to a pulp in the woods, mountains, caverns, even underwater. Layne's partner Pyro, was no unbeatable pokemon either, and when he ran out of energy....there was only one thing to do. Get them out. And that was what Layne had to do now. And he knew that this would not be a walk in the park. Layne himself was beat pretty bad, and Chunk was discharging electricity.
It didn't matter. If they stayed, this whole trip here to investigate corruption would have been for nothing. And though Layne was already seeing that this would be one of the hardest tasks any of them would ever face, he was not about to accept defeat so soon. Not with the world at stake. Not with.....her at stake....
"Okay, Chunk hold on. We're getting out of here."
Layne picked up Chunk, and slung him around his neck, so that one set of paws draped over each shoulder. They were getting out all right. Away from this cursed spring, away from this dying land, and away from these enraged pokemon. Layne began walking, much to his body's protest. Layne, though his bleeding had stopped for the most part, was bruised, cut, and depleted of energy of his own. And the added weight he now was carrying didn't make it an better.
Layne didn't care. He had finally managed to take a few steps away from the spring, when Chunk's body once again discharged. Layne himself now also had to take the full force of it. Layne didn't know if the pain he felt then was what Chunk experienced, or wasn't what Chunk experienced, or if it was double what Chunk experienced due to his natural weakness to electricity, but he shut his eyes hard, almost squeezed the life out of Chunk's paws, and locked his mouth, forcing his scream down. When it stopped, Layne let out the air he had just been holding. "Try and hold it back Chunk. Try and hold it back." he said, knowing that would not happen. He just said them, as if to allow Chunk to know he was going to get them out of this, that Chunk wasn't alone, and Layne wasn't about to just ditch him to anymore corrupt pokemon.
Layne took a few more steps, when he saw something drop to the ground. Layne had not taken notice of a small bag on one of Chunk's front legs until just now. The bag was small and apparently sturdy as it showed very little damage after what had just happened. However for the contents of the bag.......it wasn't as such. One half bitten Oran berry, which was now fried, beat, and useless fell to the ground. Layne had not been aware of Chunk bringing an Oran berry, but it wasn't on his mind. "So much for a possible energy restoration..." Layne thought to himself.
He continued walking. The end of the forest was nearly in sight.....
