PMD: Exploration and Corruption of the New Frontier (IC)(PG-13)

Alaska felt Retus' mouth on her arm as he sucked out the poison. She struggled to keep her eyes open. Retus put his ear near Alaska's chest to hear if she was breathing. Alaska winced at the touch and coughed. Another thing was holding them back. For some reason, something always happened that slowed them down. Alaska felt somewhat guilty. She saw Shade walk over. "Here you go," she said, handing a pecha berry to Retus. Alaska breathed in, the wind making a whistling sound. It suddenly became a bit easier to breathe. I won't let something like this happen again, Alaska thought. A smile spread across her face. The crack on Retus' eye was funny looking at this angle.

Retus was glad the Alaska was alright. She was the last one that he would want to be harmed. He still couldn't resist her charm. "Bleh... The taste of poison. At this rate I might get used to it." Retus said as he helped Alaska up on her feet. "Well, As long as everyone else is safe thats fine by me." Retus continued as his eyes once again glowed pink at the sight of Alaska, Giving off his signiture grin. "Now then... Lets try this again." Retus mimiced what he had done before the Beedrill incident by once again offering his hand to Alaska. "Well then... Shall we?" He repeated, Giving off a suggestive look.

-----------

"Oh Thank goodness..." Leigh said to Felecia, Extremely Releaved. "You have to be more careful... That beedrill's poison almost did you in." Leigh felt guilty not being nearby to protect his teammate, Let alone his leader. She was only five... Leigh didn't expect her to be too skilled with combat just yet. "Think you can stand up?" Leigh asked while attempting to recover her.

Felicia nodded standing shakily on her four legs. "Yeah I'm fine... if I was able to hear the beedrill I probably wouldn't have gotten poisoned" she sighed loudly looking at her teammate. "So are we hopefully not gonna get stopped this time" she added still looking at Leigh before she glanced at Shade "Thanks" she said before turning her attention back to him.

--------------------------------------------------
Shade nodded slightly as the child thanked her for giving her the pecha berry. "Don't mention it" she muttered watching the others in the group thinking If that child was taken down so easily she won't last through one mission. as she shook her head.

((OOC: Good idea xD))

He didn't know whether he was still conscious or not; in fact, he didn't know if he was still thinking, or if there was something else going on. He knew one thing: he had been suffering, and he WAS suffering. It was as if the electricity still coursed through his body, and now affected his mind; and it was unbearable, but most of all, maddening.

The last thing Chunk believed he saw was Layne picking him up and carrying him away, but after that, everything became a blurry landscape, and he slowly faded into unconsciousness, no longer aware of whether he was being carried or if he was just on the ground, perhaps because his partner had lost all of its energy and had fainted on the spot.

"Is it corruption...?" He suddenly heard echoing around him, somewhere in the dark void he saw himself in.

Corruption? Chunk quickly thought, the simple concept making him tremble. I'm not corrupted!! What are you saying?! Show yourself!

"Doesn't seem like it." A different voice replied. "I've seen this kind of bandaging... go get some Orans from the stock."

Something like steps were heard, gradually fading away. There was silence for some time.

Where am I?

"Still no response." The same voice continued. More steps were heard, and that person spoke: "His friend?"

"Chucked up on the lobby." A different voice answered. Someone was heard humming, and the silence continued for a moment.

"This'll sting for a moment..." Chunk suddenly heard, and before he knew it, he was yelling as loud as he could, contorcing himself in pain; it was his leg again, and the extreme pain kept on for what seemed like an eternity before simply fading into nothing. "There. Some rest and he should be ready for another one."

"Leave him be, then; we have more pressing matters to discuss." A grave voice was heard, and several steps followed suit; soon enough, silence was abundant again.

Wake up...

Retus offered his hand again to Alaska. "Well then… Shall we?" he repeated. Alaska held his hand, not in the mood to hug him again. "Retus," she started, "you smell good." She held in a laugh. Alaska didn't know anything about romance, so she tried her best to act like she was attracted to him. She looked at Leigh with an uncertain expression, as if asking whether she was accomplishing it right. However, Leigh was helping Felicia recover so he didn't notice. Alaska smiled, seeing Felicia get up. She was glad she'd be okay. Shade shook her head at Felicia. Alaska looked at her grimly. She had something against Felicia, or at least it appeared that way.

"Kehehe... Thanks I suppose. Comon I don't smell THAT good." He Replied in response to the compliment on his smell. Retus put his arm around Alaska and held her close with his hand on her hip. "We'd best get moving. Too much time wasted. Though next time I'll make sure you don't get sneak attacked. A real fighter would look their opponent in the face rather then do a cheap tactic like that." Retus was still curious as to why Alaska suddenly had such a change of heart. Worked out for him though. Retus' charm seemed to be working.

--------------

Leigh looked down at felecia with a smile. "...I probobly should have stayed close by." He said as he floated a bit closer to Felecia's side. "Don't worry, I'll keep a lookout. I'll make sure not another scratch is made on you." The whole event spawned a protective nature in Leigh. He would stay close to his leader when traveling, No matter what. Leigh looked over to Alaska and Retus who had already started walking. He overheard the comment about Retus' smell. "Heh... I wouldn't recommend lieing that baddly to him..." Leigh said privately in Alaska's mind. "Try to get closer to him... I dunno... Learn about what he was like before you met him. We might learn a thing or two also."

Felicia smiled at him "It's fine Leigh it wasn't your fault. But thanks another set of eyes should help me keep from any more trouble" she replied happily walking side by side with Leigh. "Flare's been awfully quiet hasn't he" Felicia said even though she was deaf she had noticed that her teammate hadn't spoken in some time and was a little worried about him.

--------------------------------------------
Shade rolled her eyes she honestly thought that Felicia stood no chance and wouldn't last one mission in the guild. If she's taken down that easily by non corrupt Pokemon she won't stand a chance against the corrupt she thought tagging along at the end of the group where she could still see and hear everything going on. Shade had figured out awhile ago that Felicia's deaf but was a little surprised that Retus hadn't picked up on it. That's because he's to interested in someone who is obviously pretending to be interested

Alaska listened to Leigh's advice and nodded, more to herself than to Leigh. "When I was really young, I liked to steal things from the Kecleon Shop," Alaska told him. "Got me in a hell of a lot of trouble, but it was funny." She refrained from asking him a direct question about himself, or he would become suspicious.

"I remember once, I stole a pretty little necklace with a charm of Kyogre on it. It was supposed to be good luck, but I lost it," Alaska said, wondering what happened to it. She had forgot about that little gem until she mentioned it now. Alaska put her arm around Retus and waited for his response, hoping he would at least share a similar story. If not, she would ask him.

As Retus walked along with his group, The grass and trees had looked like they were dieing more and more. Everyone was in corrupted territory. "Watch yourselves. A corrupt pokemon could appear at any moment." He warned everyone.

As Retus walked with Alaska, She told him a story about her own past. Retus continued to hold Alaska close, moving his fingers a bit. "A Kekleon shop? Sheesh, You'd have to be crazy to steal from those monsters. They don't look like much, But they know how to put up a fight!" Retus replied to Alaska.

"I had quite an experience with one of those things. Lesson learned, Don't get caught by those things. It'll hurt..." Retus shuddered at the thought of that last experience. If he knew shadow hold back then, maybe it wouldn't be so Traumatizing. But he didn't want to think of certain parts of his past... "... So... Tell me about yourself. I'm getting more and more interested in you the minute." Retus gave off another suggestive look.

The grass and trees seemed to be dying around them. There were no sign of flowers. "Watch yourselves. A corrupt pokemon could appear at any moment," Retus warned. "A Kecleon shop? Sheesh, You'd have to be crazy to steal from those monsters. They don't look like much, but they know how to put up a fight!" Retus told Alaska. "That's why I ran like the wind," she replied. "I had quite an experience with one of those things. Lesson learned, don't get caught by those things.

"It'll hurt..." Retus shuddered. "... So... Tell me about yourself. I'm getting more and more interested in you the minute." Alaska found this as an opportunity to get information from him. "No, I'm more interested... in you!" she exclaimed happily. "Please, tell me more..." she rubbed his shoulder. I hope the prank's worth it, Alaska thought. She wondered what it was that Retus had been stealing. It had to be something a lot more valuable than the little Kyogre charm. If Alaska could convince him to tell her, it wouldn't be long before she knew what it was.

Retus blushed again. Alaska was interested in him? That was certainly a sign. He wasn't exactly willing to tell of of his secrets but... His personality was trying to make him reconsider. His eyes kept glowing brighter the more nervous he got. "You... Want to know about me?" Retus replied like an idiot. Retus put his hand from Alaskas hip onto her shoulder. "Kehehehe... Just how interested are we talking about here?" He said, Attempting to stall. "I don't tell my wonderful stories to just anyone..." He hoped that some corrupt pokemon would ruin the moment but the pathway was clear. Did the two other groups actually make it? It would definately be less trouble for him. Retus stared at Alaska with a suggestive look and waited for her Reply.

Felicia glanced around nervously as the area started to look more and more corrupt. "Leigh can I ask you a question and get an honest answer" she said softly after a few more minutes of walking in silence she wasn't looking at him and was still looking around the area shocked that the corruption did this to what probably was a once beautiful area.

Leigh floated alongside Felicia and was shocked at how much the corruption had effected this part of the land. The water was unsafe and a main source. One sip would drive anybody mad. Leigh tried his best to eavesdrop on Alaska and Retus but so far it was mostly discussion about what the two of them had stolen. Then Retus had asked just how interested Alaska was. He didn't know what would happen next but it would soon be time to pull off his prank. Before Leigh could listen in on the two a bit more, Felecia interupted. "Sure thing. I'm as honest as they get" He replied sincerily.

"Boss."

"Hm?" Asked a deep throated voice, the soft "SHING" sound from his claws. He sounded annoyed.

"There's a bunch of Pokemon heading our way. Should we..."

"Hrm." Grunted the voice. "You two take care of them. If I want to join in, I will."

The POkemon nodded and quickly leapt out onto the path. An Excadril and a Heatmor, btoh growling as the Heatmor pumped fire from it's mouth, snake like, and the Excadril showed off it's claws.

"Stop right there!"

"Do you honestly think I'll stand a chance against corrupt Pokemon?" she asked looking at him out of the corner of her eyes as they walked farther into the corrupt area. Felicia was honestly afraid of what would happen if they were attacked by corrupt Pokemon since she didn't believe she would stand a chance against them due to her inexperience in fighting and young age. When she saw two Pokemon jump in their path she couldn't stop herself from instinctively jumping behind Leigh not listening to her brain listening to her five year old instincts.

Leigh paused for a moment. He wanted to be honest, But he really didn't know if Felecia would do so well against Corrupt pokemon. Was Felecia even trained for battle? "Um... Well..." Before Leigh had a chance to reply, Two pokemon had jumped in their path as Felecia hid behind Leigh. An Excadrill and a Heatmor. Of all the worst timing. He wanted to tell them off, But Leigh decided to let Retus do that job. He was more of a smooth talker then anyone.

---------------
Retus was Releaved, and annoyed. Just when he was starting to get close to Alaska, Two knuckleheads decide to show up and ruin it all. A Heatmor and an Excadrill. Amusingly, It was a fitting combination. "I got this." He whispered in Alaska's ear as he walked in front of both of the pokemon. Retus' eyes were glowing white to prepare for anything that this duo might want to pull (detect). "...Who the heck are you boneheads?" He taunted with an unimpressed look on his face. "We're all going for a stroll and what do we see? Someone who got their face stuck in a tube and... um..." Retus stared at the Excadrill trying his best to come up with an insult. "Kehehehe... If you don't mind, I think I'll just stick to insulting the Ant eatter in a clown suit over here..." He told the Excadrill. "Calling you fat is just too unoriginal for my taste."

Layne didn't know how long it had been. But what he did know, was that hot water never felt so soothing. As soon as he was guided to the spring, and placed one foot in it, he felt relieved already. Granted, his wounds would take longer to heal, but he wasn't worried anymore almost. He felt almost at peace.

As he slowly slipped into the water, he let all the air out of his lungs, and submerged himself. His body sunk almost like a rock, deprived of air. Layne did this sometimes, though it only lasted about three seconds, when he would come up for air. As he did so....he let all the pain he felt from the long walk and the attack, melt away.

As he took in air again, his collar inflated. and he let himself drift. The spring was deep enough to where he didn't touch, and could let himself drift. Time was lost to him now.

He breathed in.........

...and smiled. Autumn was over him. Her smile, with the way the sun hit the back of her head, was perfect. Layne must have dozed off, because the sun was setting, and he was on the beach. It wasn't the first time he did this. The sand, the air.....it was all so perfect, he would just sleep on the beach, or just nap on it.

Autumn finally said, "Rise and shine, Mary Sunshine."

Layne scoffed and chuckled at the same time and sat up and watched the tide coming in. Autumn sat with him. Layne didn't think she got the same feeling he got when near water or just being near or in water, but her company made it that much better, and perhaps she knew that. They had only known each other for about 3 weeks now, and he already felt her company feel that well. Perhaps he was just overthinking. Never-the-less, she made him happy when she came and gave him company. He was happy he wasn't alone. Layne sometimes wished he knew what made her happy.

He hadn't asked her.

"Autumn...you know I love your company here, right?"
Autumn giggled, and said, "Of course, Layne, silly. Why ask when you know?"
Layne pulled himself up further. His feet were now in front of him, and his tail(s) curved along the sand. "I was just contemplating something."
"What's that?" she asked getting closer.
"What is your equivalent to the sea?" Layne asked.
Autumn looked at him confused. "What do you mean?"
Layne adjusted his goggles and popped his neck. "Well I mean, you come and give me company on the beach or on Sharpedo's Bluff. But do you have something that just fills you with happiness on the same levels as the sea does?"
Autumn pondered the question and looked up and smiled. "Yes. And I think mine's bigger." she said playfully.
"Bigger?" Lyane asked.
"Have you ever watched the sun set, and watch the stars come out?"
Layne shook his head. "Can't say I have."
"Layne, the ocean is a wonderful thing, but when I see the night sky...and how big it is......"
Layne chuckled. Autumn continued though,"I want to be the first pokemon to see it all. I want to go up, and touch the stars."
"Sounds challenging." Layne said.
Autumn looked over. "You didn't seem all that.....convinced."
"No no, it has nothing to do with that. It's just a big goal."
"Wouldn't you want to see the depths of the ocean, and all that, Layne? See how underwater pokemon dwell sometimes?"
"I would, but probably won't..."
Autumn looked at him, "Why? What's stopping you?"
Layne smiled. "Nothing. But I would help you get to the stars first." And with that, he lay back down and smiled. "The first star's already greeting us. Why don't we wait for them to greet us?"

Layne opened his eyes. Even memories of Autumn were starting to worry him more about her safety. He would find her, and he would do whatever it took to save her if she was in any trouble.

Layne felt the strength return to him, and he opened his eyes. He stepped out of the spring, and stretched. His bruises and cuts were still there, and he still felt sore, but he was going to go check on his partner.

As he went in the direction he was in, someone stopped him and must have recognized him, because they said, "He's going to be fine, he just needs rest."
Layne translated that as, 'it would be best not to disturb him.'

Layne put up a paw, and said, "I know, but as his partner, I have a right to see him and make sure he's okay." With that, he continued to his partner's room. And when he saw him on the bed, Layne almost felt a wave of relief go down his spine. He still looked like the beat up kid he fought with, but that was a good thing.

Chunk too had a strong spirit. Like Pyro. Pyro was on his way home, he didn't know what Chunk would decide to do, but Layne was hellbent on staying until he found Autumn. Layne pulled up a chair and sat next to Chunk's bed, and rested his head. Several thoughts floated through his mind, and he drifted off again......lost in thought....

Felicia looked at the two Pokemon from her place hiding behind Leigh. "Who are they?" she whispered as she put herself down in her mind for being so young and listening to instincts. After a moment she shook her head Now's not the time to put myself down...I need to be strong, it's not my fault my instincts told me to hide behind the strongest person I know she thought warily watching the Excadrill and Heatmor.

-------------------------------------------------------
Shade stopped and glared at the Excadrill and Heatmor before taking a few steps forward so she was in front of Leigh and Felicia. Knowing this could help her plan. "And what do you two idiots want" she said claws out as she stared at them.

"You…. want to know about me?" Retus replied. He moved his hand to Alaska's shoulder. "Kehehehe… Just how interested are we talking here?" he asked as if trying to stall. "I don't tell my wonderful stories to just anyone…" As Alaska opened her mouth to reply, an Excadrill and a Heatmor leapt onto the path, both growling. The Heatmor pumped fire from its mouth and the Excadrill showed off its claws. Alaska smiled and held her claws up also. "Stop right there!" the two strangers yelled. "I got this," Retus whispered into Alaska's ear. She looked at him and lowered her claws.

Alaska had no experience with Unova Pokémon. She didn't know whether they would be the type to mess with or not. Retus' eyes glowed white as he walked up to them. "...Who the heck are you boneheads?" He taunted with an unimpressed look on his face. "We're all going for a stroll and what do we see? Someone who got their face stuck in a tube and... um..." Retus stared at the Excadrill. "Kehehehe… If you don't mind, I think I'll just stick to insulting the Ant Eater in a clown suit over here..." He told the Excadrill. "Calling you fat is just too unoriginal for my taste." Alaska felt herself smile at the insult. The jokes were pretty clever, albeit a bit mean. Shade walked over to the three Pokémon. She faced the Excadrill and Heatmor. "And what do you two idiots want?" she asked with her claws out as she stared at them threateningly.

Alaska wondered about the Excadrill… or was it the Heatmor? The one with the claws. She wondered how he did them. They were so sharp, Alaska was dying to know how he kept them that way. Of course, she wasn't going to ask. Her curiosity wouldn't get the better of her this time. Suddenly, she heard something behind her, and knocked it away a few feet in a quick slash. A Caterpie quickly got up and crawled away. Alaska's eyes widened, not meaning to attack the innocent creature. She had thought it was a corrupted Pokémon. Then again, what was a little Caterpie doing in corrupted land? Alaska looked up at the sky and scanned it, feeling as if corrupt Pokémon would fall from the sky and make them meet their doom at any moment. Alas, it didn't happen. At least, not yet.

It was only after what seemed like hours later that Chunk finally felt something around him again. It wasn't his leg, nor the bandages on his other leg; no, those he could guarantee he didn't feel, and doubted he could even move, for some reason.
What he felt was sounds, and voices, and people.

And for the first time in quite some time, he opened his eyes, first slowly, to adapt them to the abrupt change in the light around them, then quickly, blinking several times.

He suddenly had this deja-vu feeling. Yes... he knew he had seen this before...
But he hadn't; he had, however, been in a very similar situation, and realizing that was strangely comforting.

Looking around, he was once again in a resting room, albeit one that was ten... no, a hundred times better than the one at the lake town.
There was also another difference.

At the side of the bed rested Layne, his head placed on the bed, probably sleeping.

Their journey hadn't been a long one yet, but Chunk knew both had given more than enough proof that they could trust their backs to each other; and fortunately, that was what an Exploration Team was about.

He chose not to wake his partner; instead, he just tried to get comfortable again using only his front legs (the only ones he could feel).

"Good going, Layne." He said in a low voice as he patted the Buizel's head and turned away to rest again.

((OOC: Okay, so I ended up making a stal post; want me to add something, or will you? xD))
