Hey guys, this is my entry. I'm not sure how relevant this one is but what the hell. Possible relevance is explained at the end.

Spoiler:

Poison has Two Faces

Like fate, a chance encounter,
has gnarled ancient hands,
caressing the prime of life,
bringing haste to the final second.

If only by chance,
pain should find itself,
to bring about the end of time,
for an earthbound soul,

then all who knew him,
would then despair in their solitude,
and reflect on the contract,
which seemed to expire unjustly.

And they would proclaim,
"Twas not time, o traveller,
that brought about your demise,
but merely, the vicissitudes of fate."

And thus, they shall depart,
and forget,
but not be liberated,
from the two poisons of life.

The curse of fate,
And the passing of the age.

And this is possibly relevant because?

I kind of saw that the prompt of time could be taken as all the different manifestations of time that exist. That being said, I realised that time is a feeling, something which only life can comprehend. I wrote this poem, then, as a kind of way of showing how time could end, at least relatively speaking.

I've never put poetry on this forum before, but I guess I'll enter. (: Keep in mind that this is really best judged if it's read aloud. It's slam poetry, so a lot of the alliteration, rhyme, and assonance is kind of lost when you read it silently.

Migratory Birdsong

My family doesn't like to stay in one place.
Until I was two, I lived in Washington --
The state in the west, not the capitol.
Before I even had a chance to remember my home I was flown
to a place I'd never even known, New Jersey.
New state, new coast, new life -- for a while.
Until I grew used to it, and we drove to Texas.
I never did find out what happened to those kids I knew,
the ones who always were certain of where home was. They weren't me.
But New Jersey called again; we packed our things and boarded the train.
We came back, but it wasn't the same.
Still can't settle down, still moving around
And attached to that place down in Texas,
with memories tucked away in a storage unit --
But no longer attached to the people who helped make them.
I grew up thinking friends were expendable, tradeable;
If I didn't it would be too hard to leave.
The short reprieve I got from people, I pushed away.
I didn't want a reason to want to stay...since I wasn't.
I never grew out of that habit, counting days
treating my homes like hotels with extended stays.
Even now, the second I'm out
my family -- that is, my mother -- is moving again.
She doesn't know where, why, or exactly when
but the home I'm leaving is not the home I'm coming back to.
I count the days until I start over,
like I have so many times before.
Another shore, by which to soar -- or fall.
Does it really matter after all? Because
My family doesn't like to stay in one place.
And if you wait long enough, I'll just migrate.

Okay, it's time (All right, all right, no more "time" puns) for our new theme.
Misheard Whisper decided for the next theme to be Rivalry!
Whether it be out of anger, competition, or just having fun, write a poem that will "rival" against the others. (*sigh* Here we go again.)

I didn't have a good inspiration to write for the previous poetry topic, Time, but I thought I submitted one that I wrote quite some time ago for the current one on Rivalry.

~Poem~

Sun and Moon

Heaven's blazing left eye,
Burning high up in the sky.
Through the rain, sunbeams seep,
Painting a colourful ribbon-like strip.

Heaven's right eye of cooling blue,
Illuminating against a nightly hue.
Twinkling teardrops around its lashes,
Sparkling like diamonds with gentle flashes.

When the paths of both eyes intertwine,
The Earth becomes a void of sunlight and moonshine.
The balance of both opposites must remain,
Or else the forces darkness and chaos will reign.

Notes:

I didn't explicitly mention what the two eyes of heaven were in the first 2 stanzas, until the second line of the last stanza where I hinted "sunlight and moonshine". I portrayed the grandeur of both eyes of heaven and their beauty in nature. For example, a rainbow created by the sun and the starry night around the moon. The first line of the final stanza actually means an eclipse, whereby the sun and the moon are in one line and "meet" each other. Like all polar opposites, there must have a balance between the two, as explained in the the last 2 lines.

It's a bit of a 'other way around' sort of thing for this poem and this week's theme.
But...it's close enough, so yeah. It's entered.

are just a brush of human resentment
or a tarnished gleam of emboldened victory;
a touch of sometimes envy

or riddled crevices
where threatened prejudice pools,
shallow cracks of pride stretching;
and festering poison seeping

or feathered light
longing out recognition
inestimable, priceless achievement;
lifting wings.

Betrayal, An Unknown Rival Appears
Beautiful words I say to her echo back,
Bouncing back they crash into someone, a friend,
It consumes me, a mocking surprise attack,
How could loves intentions come to this cruel end?
Depressed I am, moping around my sorrow,
Heart ripped in four, between friend foe, love, and hate,
Tossed aside, will I make it through tomorrow?
Will it be mended, or will it be to late,
Then it happens a separation of love,
Do my eyes deceive me? Can it be true?
My heart mends itself, together like doves,
Chances are slim, I shall not become shrew,
Heart skipping beats, I take my first steps forward,
I say my prayers of hope, my gaze aimed skyward

Alright, the judging process went by pretty quickly. But rest assured, it was not easy. I had to look through the poems very carefully this time to make a good choice.

Okay. I guess I need to explain a few things.
To begin, Regneration, who has been my co-host and a judge for a long time, has now decided to step down.
Also, last week's winner, Destiny., is apparently absent. So I couldn't get his approval of him being a judge and choosing the next theme. So I suppose I'll have to pick a theme myself and pick another judge to take his place.
And....I was being a bit procrastinating too. Sorry about that everyone. :cer_blush:

Now with that out of the way, it's time to get things back on the road.
This week's theme is Adventure!
Yeah, I know Adventure isn't much of a "poetic" theme. But it'll still work.

Here's my entry.

The Writer

Sat there in the attic, scribbling with his pen,
A man so erratic, stays in his den.
Watching out the window, across Clock Town,
He decides the fate of the people, even he who wears the crown.

So feared is the writer, the townsfolk sent a hitman,
"That cheeky little blighter", he thought, as he devised a counter plan.
The hitman walks up the steps, readying his sword,
The writer took his pen and crept, crept along the creaking floor.

"I'll look at you and decide your fate" said the bitter old man,
"And a wound in your belly I will create" challenged the hitman, as if he can.
So they stood and they stared, face to face.
The Writer, he merely glared, the hitman struck without haste.

Clock Town now safe, the Writer deceased
Stood there was the victorious waif, the bloody body beneath.
The hitman, outside, the townsfolk cheered
"The Writer died! now there's nothing to fear!"
