    Okay this hasn't been nearly as thought out as the marathons but I've got some ideas for it!

    I'd like to have two rounds of three screenshots each, one round over July 5/6 and the other over 7/8. Each participant will be allowed to submit only one caption per screenshot, but may submit captions for every available screenshot. Winners will not be judged by the usual "1st Place, 2nd Place" but instead will be put into 3-5 categories of things like "Funniest, Most Creative, Most Suggestive, Best Reference". There will be two emblems- one for winning a category in a round and one just for participation. The winners of both rounds will be announced on July 8th in one big post.

    So we need six interesting screenshots from the anime, a pretty thread post, two emblems, and possibly another judge actually. .3.
     
    I think having 3 judges rounds things out pretty well. We should each come up with our own captions to give as examples too (plus I don't wanna get left out of all the fun, even if I can't win :P). Maybe we should grab someone who doesn't watch the anime at all for the third judge? That way we have someone who watches a lot, someone who watches a little and someone who doesn't at all.
     
    That would be interesting, but idk. If they're not interested in the anime I'm not sure they'd be so interested in captions... I'll scout a bit for people. We can def do examples, but with screenshots we will not be using for the actual competition. Just so we don't take ideas or whatever.

    Question: should we actually set categories for the winners, or just like... pick our favourite three and give them a label? does what I'm asking make any sense or
     
    I think I understand what you're saying. I think we should come up with categories, and then if we find something that we think deserves to be recognized outside those categories we can do so.
     
    So have three proper categories and then a special recognition award. Sounds good. What should the three categories be? And should we announce them or should the users just submit the best caption they can and we see what categories they work in?

    The episode we plan on watching next week, I think it has an image I want to include. I don't know if it's that one or not, but there's an episode where Wobbuffet is holding out a flower while he's in love.

    Went and looked just now, found the gif I saw. Don't know what episode for sure, but I think it would be a cute option for the screen caps to get a still from this scene:

    Not quite sure yet on the topic of categories. Need to do some brain storming on that front.
     
    Well, I don't know. I just know next weeks episode has Wobbuffet falling in love, so I thought that might be what this is from.

    Funniest is definitely a shoe in.

    Pokémon Anime Caption Contest

    Hello and welcome to PC's GT2013 Caption Contest! Your hosts and judges for this event will be ZachLMedia, NecrumWarrior, and EternallyAnna. The game is simple- we will provide you with a selection of screenshots from the anime and you will caption them to the best of your ability. Providing caption humor and having fun with subtitles is the intent, but you can try for anything that might fit the categories we're looking for.

    How To Play

    A number of screenshots are in a spoiler below. You may select up to three screenshots to caption, but you must submit no more than one caption per screenshot. All captions must be submitted by 12pm CST (GMT-6) on Monday July 8th. Please include both your caption and the image you are captioning in your submission post. Captions under 4words/25 characters will be disqualified. Your captions will be judged according to the seven categories listed below.. Therefore potentially seven people will receive the Caption Master emblem. Everyone who did not submit a winning caption will receive a participation emblem.

    Categories

    Funny
    - Give us something to literally laugh out loud about.

    Punny
    - Clever or groan-inducing. Your choice, our call.

    Snarky
    - Only the finest sarcasm, please.

    Double Entendre
    - Potentially very hard to do.

    The Far Side
    - Succinct. Deadpan. Clever. Non Sequitur.

    Actually Pretty Funny
    - It shouldn't be funny, but somehow it is. It's tough to get us to admit it though.

    Judges' Favourite
    - It may not fit a category, but it stands out so much we can't not give it props.

    Not as such.... no. lol the way I propose is that we each pick one entry for each category and post them here and then argue about it if there's a conflict. like, make a list with a link to the entry and which one you're voting for. does this make sense at all
