Pokémon Duo

[Hiatus]

There are many Pokémon out there that, when paired together, perform very, very well while battling when paired together. Which Pokémon do you have tendency to pair up?

For me, one would definitely have to be Skarmory and Blissey (which is sometimes replaced with Chansey). With former, we set up entry hazards such as Stealth Rock and Spikes, and constantly use Whirlwind to switch opponent's Pokémon (causing them to get hurt). Plus, since it's got heavy Defense stat, it could endure a ton of physical hits without any trouble at all. When it comes to special-based attacks, we've got Blissey to cover it, which has amazing Special Defense. Blissey's also used for supportive purposes, which its partner cannot do (for most part). Chansey has ability to perform equally as well if it has Eviolite; sometimes, even better.

Aside from them, I also use Breloom and Togekiss together from time to time. Breloom takes care of physical side of things with moves such as Focus Punch, Mach Punch, Seed Bomb, and so forth; Togekiss--its job is to do things specially, such as utilizing Air Slash to flinch the foe constantly, using Thunder Wave to slow their Pokémon down, and other things of the like.

Talonflame+Rampardos is a nice little duo I have in Rotation battles. Lead with Talonflame, use Tailwind (which is basically guaranteed because of Gale Wings). Wrap a Choice Band around Rampardos's head, rotate it in on the next turn, tap Head Smash, and watch as 2 or 3 of your opponent's Pokemon are obliterated. Base 165 Attack with max investment, STAB, and Choice Band is scary powerful. Unless you're a bulky Rock resist. Or know Aqua Jet/Mach Punch. Or have a Focus Sash. Or if Head smash decides to miss. But other than that it's still really good.

When it comes to double battles, I find pairing up a Pokemon that knows Earthquake with a Pokemon that is a Flying type works well. It works since when the Pokemon that knows Earthquake uses it, the Pokemon that is a Flying type is immune to it. One such example is my Swampert and Swellow.

A ground type with Earthquake and a Flying type or one with levitate work great seeing as how it doesn't hit it.

Pick a Surfer, any Surfer, and put it next to a Vaporeon with Water Absorb under the effects of both Leftovers and Aqua Ring. The Vaporeon is now invulnerable... not really, but you get the idea.

It's not a combination involving any specific monsters (although being Normal to get STAB from the move helps), but coming out with something using a Normal-Gemmed Retaliate after losing the previous team member is a good shocker. Something I could actually do with Dodrio if I get a Normal Gem in Alpha Sapphire...

The Vaporeon strategy sounds pretty great; I wish I were able to finger on why I wasn't able to put my finger on it before, haha. Vap's pretty tough to take down on its own, but with support and whatnot, I could understand as to how it would turn impossible to stop (literally). Suicune would have had chance to play this role as well, I'd imagine, since it's got Water Absorb as hidden ability, but unfortunately, I don't believe it's released yet, which sucks.

Mega Sceptile and Wash forme Rotom, especially if Rotom knows Discharge and if Mega Sceptile knows X-Scissor. Mega Sceptile takes care of Grass types while Wash forme Rotom's Discharge boosts Sceptile's attack power. Which now that I see the upper posts is a lot like the aforementioned Vaporeon strategy. It really should work for most of the other absorbers and mons that know a move that would otherwise hurt the absorber.

Nope, Suicune with the HIA isn't available yet. Pity...

But I have used a similar idea with a rain team with a Cradily before. =) Bulky pokemon with a special attack boost is handy! Lapras also benefits from Water Absorb.

One combo that I encountered and rather liked is Zapdos and Lanturn. Lanturn has Volt Absorb and Soak (changes the typing of the target to Water type), while Zapdos has Discharge and doesn't have to worry about Earthquake (unless it also has Roost I suppose).
