  • I wanted to catch 'em all, but I didn't know how many there were. Google provided inconsistent results.
This post will list the maximum number of obtainable Pokémon in FireRed without P2P trading, special events, cheating or hacking.

The most calculated result I found was this Reddit post, however I had already calculated how many were obtainable in the Kanto region myself (and got them all), and I came up with a different number.

Listed directly below are the Kanto-region Pokémon which are Not obtainable in FireRed (solo-play) (26 total), and the reason why:

Starters (assuming you chose Bulbasaur as your starter):
    004 Charmander
    005 Charmeleon
    006 Charizard
    007 Squritle
    008 Wartortle
    009 Blastoise

    Evolves only when traded:
    065 Alakazam
    068 Machamp
    076 Golem
    094 Gengar

    Exclusive to LeafGreen:
    027 Sandshrew
    028 Sandslash
    037 Vulpix
    038 Ninetales
    069 Bellsprout
    070 Weepinbell
    071 Victreebel
    079 Slowpoke
    080 Slowbro
    120 Staryu
    121 Starmie
    126 Magmar
    127 Pinsir

Choice alternatives (assuming you chose Kabuto's 'Dome Fossil'):
    138 Omanyte
    139 Omastar

    Exclusive to Nintendo Special Event:
    151 Mew

As for the National Pokédex, I checked the 235 additional Pokémon 'Game Locations' entries on Bulbapedia.
45 of them are obtainable in FireRed.

Here are the maximum total values, and a numbered list of the Pokémon obtainable in FireRed by catching, breeding, evolving, or receiving as a reward/gift/trade from an NPC:

    Kanto Pokédex: 125 of 151
    National Pokédex: 170 of 386

  • Looking through your list, I can't find any errors and I was checking this for myself once for every single Pokemon obtainable in the 3rd generation. :)
So nice work on putting it together!
You can get many non-Fire Red Kanto Pokemon in Colosseum and XD too, if you want to add that as a alt meathod to LG. I know a few such as Sandshrew and Meowth can be brought over from them :) I think Vulpix too...

  • Thanks for taking the time to look it over, I appreciate it.

I play FireRed on my computer using an emulator, and am therefore unable to transfer Pokémon from other versions/games. I suspect a lot of other people use an emulator as well, which was the reason I posted this list.

BTW, Meowth is already obtainable in FireRed :)
