Damn it... I was hoping that would be only an unique situation as I still have no idea how to deal with this. As I said before the error leads to the "map_connections.dat" file in the Data folder. Can you check if it is still there in both the extracted folder and the rar file? I would also appreciate it if you show me a screenshot, but I don't think that will make a difference.

Due to troubles with my beta testers and lack of communication, I decided to skip the demo finishing the first island. I'm already almost halfway through the second one and I'll make my first release reach the Pokémon League. I still work on this on my own using resources if find around the web, so it will have bugs. Maybe I'll leave it to the regular players to find those I glossed over and I can update the game to remove them. This way I'll introduce you to some of the locations of the first island during August and September. This will follow the way I have created the locations, but you can choose which way to go on your own.

    Update 1

    Behind the academy.

Around the academy you'll find vast fields and in the south there is a cave that leads to the sewers. South-east of the academy lays a dormant volcano with a city focused on hot springs next to it. There are also cliffs nearby and some natural hot springs where adventurous trainers can relax. The volcano can't be climbed, but you'll need special permission from the Fire-type gym leader Heather.

It took longer than expected to post another update as I forgot about it or even lost interest for a while. I'm very close to finishing the first half of the second island and I'm already a month behind schedule. I'm about to be stuck with the tedious aspects again such as defining trainers or putting together encounter tables. I really like mapping, making cutscenes of events or figuring out gym puzzles and I try to keep myself positive.

    Update 2

    A vast forest.

In the northern fields you'll find a maze where trainers have arranged a challenge for you to complete. You can explore a huge forest to the north-west of the academy and the deeper you go, how rougher it gets. You can also enjoy the greenhouse and get access to several unusual berries depending on your status. The Grass-type gym leader Daisy oversees everything in the forest to make sure nothing is in danger.

Another month has passed, so it's time for a new update while we wait. It looks like I won't meet another deadline I placed on myself because I didn't include the time it would take to do my own beta test. I also took a break for a few days to keep myself interested and I might do that again in the future. I don't really have a new release window set, but I hope to be finished with the league in Q1 of next year.

    Update 3

    A wet marsh.

The eastern fields feature a marsh and some wetlands with a custom made pond. This leads into a much bigger marsh and a city located on some islands near the edge of a lake. This is a favorite spot for many fishermen and where a monthly competition is held at night. The Water-type gym leader Carol organizes everything and she also takes care of the bait in the marsh.

  • Hey SpeedyAggron,

Just wanted to extend my helping hand! Being a beta game tester is something I've been actively learning about, so I would appreciate the opportunity to Beta Test your game. When finished (or when requested), I'll send you a Google Doc link/file with my current progress.

    Thanks again for you time!

You still looking for beta testers? I wanna get in on this ASAP.

I lost motivation in working with beta testers after communication issues and I still have no idea how to solve two weird errors. I plan to release the game when I finish the league during Q1 of next year if I can follow my schedule. People can look for bugs and more when they play the game and I'll try to fix everything with new updates. I can give you a link with the demo if you're interested, but I won't improve on it as I'm still developing new areas.

I'm done play testing the western areas of the second island and now I can finally start on developing the east. It took longer than expected once more and I don't think I can make it to the credits by the end of Q1 next year. I always lose some to a lot of time when I run into an issue and have to fix it before I can continue. I can still keep up with the level curve by only fighting every trainer, so my pacing should still be on point compared to gym leaders.

    Update 4

    The harbor to the capital.

The northeastern fields lead towards a small village where the current champion was born. Further ahead is a beach separated by cliffs that divides it by a calm section and a busy tourist spot. The harbor connects the island to the capital and there are other facilities for passing trainers. For a one time only deal, they can travel on a cruise ship and battle each other during the ride.

It has been a while since I posted an update, but I was busy finishing the areas around the ninth gym. It was very mapping extensive just like everything around the tenth and last gym will be with both being mountainous. The league and final events must also still be finalized and play testing always take longer than expected. I can certainly say I won't be reaching my latest Q1 deadline, so my next release goal will be Q2 if not much goes wrong.

    Update 5

    The center of the archipelago.
Shoto City is the capital and biggest city of the island group and it is divided in six districts. There are two residential districts where the upper and lower class have been separated. You also have the harbor district where trainers can rent rooms or bicycles and the political district with the SPA headquarters. The academic district features a public trainer school and the Pokémon League is located inside the battle district.

It took me a lot longer than I expected, but I have finally reached the credits in Pokémon Judgment. This will be the state to be released the V2.0 rar in, so none of the post-game will be available yet. I'll not recruit any beta testers this time due to the lack of communication with the previous version. If any errors or other issues are found you can post them here, I'll try to fix them as quickly as possible.

There are problems here I wasn't able to resolve, so I'll list them here to warn other players:
    - When I had testers, some of them had an error during startup which is "Script 'Game_Map Factory' line 428: TypeError Occured. Instance of IO needed.". I never encountered this error, so I had no idea how to approach this and other testers could play just like me.
    - When the player transfers to another map through an event, the map becomes dark and the previous map stays in the background when you restart after saving without moving.
    - The Ride Pager won't let you move on mounts that are based on making terrain passable. I could emulate this through a custom script instead of relying on the code in the plugin.
    - Some mid-battle dialogue and transitions from EBDX didn't get through the compiler. I don't know how those are ignored and others have been added to the data files later on.

So far, I'm satisfied how the pacing of the story and layout of the maps have turned out. You have more freedom on the second island and I hope to populate areas more with NPC's and items later. Level scaling is also decent with my team being at L58 at the end and the champion was a bit higher. I never was far ahead or behind each gym leader's ace and I had to switch grind for EXP only a bit.

Here you can find the link where I'll share my rar and I also have placed this on the main post:
    Download here.

    Update 6

A quick look at the second island.

Pokémon Judgment (V2.0 available now!) Pokémon Judgment (V2.0 available now!) Pokémon Judgment (V2.0 available now!) Pokémon Judgment (V2.0 available now!)
The western areas of the capital consists of grassy fields and a tower where Mega Evolution is used. You can find the cycling road nearby which encircles a city that has a hospital and a power plant. Further to the north is a lake that leads to a farm with meadows where livestock is being kept. Next up is a dense forest where you must find the city which has a casino and a very secure bank.

Pokémon Judgment (V2.0 available now!) Pokémon Judgment (V2.0 available now!) Pokémon Judgment (V2.0 available now!) Pokémon Judgment (V2.0 available now!)
East of the capital you come across rocky paths with a lab where scientists research Z-Moves. There is a huge cliff where many mines are located and on the top is the city centered to a museum. Below that you can find a massive crater that brings you to a city with an airport and a big runway. You have to cross a wide steppe where you'll find a city that holds a theater and a wide festival ground.

I'm always ready to hear feedback and keep in mind I'm the only one working on this project.

EDIT: People who already downloaded the rar might want to do it again. I realized I forgot to remove a line in an event with testing in mind, so I did to prevent people from breaking the game.

    1. Introduction

    Welcome to the Shoto Archipelago!

And yes, Shotou means archipelago in Japanese, it will be my naming scheme. The SPA (Shoto Pokémon Association) made drastic changes to the league after a huge incident 24 years ago. The two regional leagues were merged into one and trainers attended in special schools to get their license. Trainers have to respect their Pokémon and they can lose their license if they treat them poorly. Another incident two years ago between the previous champion Victoria and the new one Noah led to more severe rules. As Noah's younger sibling, you are accepted in the Gacko;-) academy so you can follow in his footsteps. Meanwhile, a gang of banned trainers who can use Poké Balls without having a license named the Outlaws appears. They seem to be after Arceus' plates that are used to power up the main features of the cities.

    2. Features

Experience a semi-open world gym challenge!

The Shoto archipelago is separated in two main islands and several smaller ones. After completing the first gym in the academy, you can choose which of the next three to challenge. You can fight the last six gyms in any order and then you will be able to compete in the league. The smaller islands will only be accessible in the post-game where you have complete freedom.

A simple map made in Paint of the southern areas with the first main island to the west. This is only a template and I hope to update the region map with a more refined image.

    Familiar faces, but different identities!

All the characters use sprites from people everybody knows in previous official games. They behave completely different, but you might see some similarities to their old personalities. Is it because I'm bad at making custom sprites or is there more to this in the plot? Most likely both.
Prof Wenge (Sycamore): The headmaster of the academy who works on a secret project.
Victoria (Cynthia): The former champion who was banned two years ago after an incident.
Damian (Blue): Victoria's son who tries to prove himself so he can restore her reputation.
Angela (Bianca): A sweet girl who wants to honor her sick grandfather, the first champion.
Hubert (Silver): A trainer who only trained the highest ranking Pokémon with harsh methods.
Joe (Ilima): He breeds Pokémon for the academy and he is also the first gym leader.

Various changes and scripts come together!

The graphics of the overworld are in Gen III style and I also use some custom tilesets. The menus are like Gen V and the music is from that generation too. Pokémon models look like the ones from Gen VI-VII and trainer sprites come from different DS games and custom creations. It was my aim to use the style of different generations to make my game more unique.
The type chart has been updated with the new Sound and Wind types. Gen V Pokémon evolve 5, 10, 15 or even 20 levels sooner and Pokémon that evolve during trades do this with a Link Stone. Some Pokémon have an extra secondary type and I made additional new hold items. There are also several scripts included like EBDX, following Pokémon, Ride Pager and overworld encounters.

    3. Screenshots

See what you can expect during your journey!

The screenshots only show areas and cutscenes until you have beaten the first gym. You'll have to discover by yourself how the entire island will look like.

    4. Credits

A big thank you to everybody in here!

A list of the people credited to all the resources and plugins I have used for my game.
    Spoiler:

    5. Glitches and Feedback

Not everything will work as expected!

As I am the only person working on this game, there is always chance you'll run into an error. I only have recently updated to V19.1, so it's possible I forgot to make a few side events compatible. You can always report crashes in this threat and I'll do what I can to fix these issues.
One I haven't been able to remove is when you save just before switching from an indoor map to an outdoor. When you reload the file, the maps suddenly overlap and this disappears when you reenter. It can give players a scare and it can be very annoying to walk on if there isn't a door nearby. If you have any idea what the cause may be according to this video (View attachment 101470), please inform me so I can remove it.
The Ride Pager won't let you move on mounts that are based on making terrain passable. I could emulate this through a custom script instead of relying on the code in the plugin. Some mid-battle dialogue and transitions from EBDX didn't get through the compiler. I don't know how those are ignored and others have been added to the data files later on.
I would appreciate it if you would give me some feedback about different topics. I'm curious what you think about my map design, encounter tables, level scaling and gym leader/rival teams. If there is any advice you can give me, it could allow me to improve in the future.

    6. Download

A quick click and you can play!

Here you can find the link where I'll share my rar and it goes until the credits:
    Download here.

I noticed this game updated can make a list of all new wind type and sound type pokemon. Btw !making this game public was good idea it make finding bugs glitches and errors a lot faster.
