We are not alone in this universe, oh no. Far from it. In this Ethereality, this existence, are ten worlds, or Planes, on which we, Pokemon, can exist. These Planes of Ethereality are fragile, though. Too much conflict, or Strife, on a Plane can mean its demise. So what is there to ensure that the Planes themselves do not die? The answer is us: the Ethereon Protectorate. For thousands of generations, the Protectorate has guarded the Planes from total demise. When Strife arrives on a Plane, so do we; descending from the stars to defend the Plane from its own inhabitants, who, in their ceaseless conflicts and wars, unknowingly begin to rip their world apart. The threads of Ethereality are thin, and it is up to us to make sure they do not snap.
However, all is not well with the Planes. Only ten years ago, a mysterious outbreak of Strife had struck them, resulting in the demise of four Planes in recent years. The Ethereon Protectorate can no longer keep up with the sheer amount of conflict in the Planes. They are failing. Now, in the midst of all this chaos, six Protectors set out to restore peace to the Planes. But will they succeed? If they do not, all of Ethereality may well collapse.

Welcome to the Ethereon Protectorate! You are a Protector of the Planes, one of the Ethereon Protectorate's elite members destined to protect our Ethereality from Strife. Whether you are a Keeper or a Watcher, you are essential to the survival of the Planes. You and five others have been sent on a mission to investigate mysterious activities in your homeland of Ultima. These happenings may have some connection to the Loyalists, an extremist group on the rise in Ultima. Spoiler:
The ten Planes are the flat, circular worlds in which all Pokemon exist. They are bound by a powerful, spiritual force named Ethereality, of which they are also composed, at the deepest level. Although there were originally ten, the number has been reduced to five because of the outbreak of Strife over the past ten years.
All Planes, at the very deepest level, are made up of Ethereal Energy, a physical manifestation of Ethereality. Even life, at its core, is created from Ethereal Energy. Though Ethereal Energy is undetectable, it presence is apparent because of the powerful bonds between everything on a Plane and its inhabitants.
When a Plane is destroyed, its destruction is often referred to by the Protectorate as Oblivion. Oblivion occurs when Strife on a Plane reaches such high levels that the infinitesimally small particles of Ethereal Energy making it up begin to try to get away from the Strife. The Ethereal Energy begins to rip the world apart in its attempts to get away from Strife, resulting in its demise. The Plane, upon dissipating, leaves a great, Plane-shaped gap in the fabric of Ethereality known as Nothing. The name is fitting, for within this gap, there is literally nothing at all. It is a scar on the face of Ethereality.

Ultima
Spoiler:
Your homeland is Ultima, the Plane of serenity, equality and peace. The Ethereon Protectorate has been housed here for thousands of generations, and originate from this land. All of Ultima, from the landmass to the oceans, is covered in one big kingdom, in which all Pokemon live. The One Kingdom, as it is called, is actually a result of two seperate Kingdoms, each controlling roughly half of the Plane, joining together to create a Utopian society. The only exception is Ethereon, the Kingdom of the Ethereon Protectorate which resides within the One Kingdom, but is technically separated from it.
Ultima has the most advanced technology of all Planes. The houses and buildings, from small shacks to skyscrapers, are all built with a recyclable material called Omega, a metal found beneath the earth of Ultima that is easily reconstructed into different shapes. The Ultimans use a source of energy called Stabilis, which transmits to electronic devices through the air and powers them. Stabilis is not harmful in any way, and is a kind of radio wave produced from small strands of Ethereal Energy enlarged and fused with negatively charged ions. The process is complicated, but is endlessly repeated by Stabilis transmitters which are stationed throughout the land, which later transmit pulses of Stabilis in all directions. Some devices are meant to be used by the Ethereon Protectorate on other Planes, so they are powered by miniature Stabilis transmitters known as Stabilis batteries which are loaded within.
Matters in Ultima were not always so peaceful, however. A mere 21 years ago, the land was separated into two Kingdoms: Malga and Jophias. Malga had dominated Jophias one hundred years prior, and now controlled it as an extension of their own Kingdom. The Ethereon Protectorate were, during this time, housed within Malga, and were bound to its government. However, the new King of Malga, Brutun, was a maniacal tyrant who brought down pain and suffering on the people of Jophias so that Malga could prosper. He made them work to the bone, mining into the earth for valuable stones which the people of Malga used to make jewelry and other petty things. This information was withheld from the Protectorate for some time, because Brutun knew that if they discovered this, they would surely turn on him.
Then came the war. The people of Jophias, tired of Brutun's mistreatment, formed a rebellion and attacked Malga. After this unanticipated strike, the two Kingdoms soon went to war. This devastating war was known as the First Great Strife of Ultima. Soon after the Ethereon Protectorate discovered what Brutun had been doing to the good people of Jophias, they split from Malga and its government and became an independent Kingdom. After four long, hard years of fighting, the Ethereon Protectorate finally managed to put an end to the First Great Strife by forcing both sides to sign a peace treaty and leave each other alone. Afterwards, both sides retreated to their respectful Kingdoms and began a normal way of life. Meanwhile, the Protectorate established a third Kingdom, appropriately named Ethereon, to watch over the other two. The aftermath of the war had left some areas of the landmass barren and lifeless.
The peace lasted for seven years. After things finally began settling down, Brutun, in his tyrannical fury, launched an assault on Jophias unexpectedly, destroying over half the city in the surprise attack. Although the Ethereon Protectorate soon stepped in to try and resolve the conflict, Jophias was first to answer with a counter attack. This sparked the Second Great Strife of Ultima, and this one was ten times worse than the first. The war only lasted a total of two years, but this time, both sides made use of Nuclear Weapons and technology. The Ethereon Protectorate finally managed to resolve the situation, but if they had not, the Plane certainly would have been destroyed. Both Kingdoms were ravaged, and the landscape of Ultima with them. Some areas were now toxic zones, where radiation levels were so high that no life could exist, not even Poison-types. Parts of the ocean were poisoned, as well, killing off millions of aquatic Pokemon who weren't even involved in the quarrel.
After the Second Great Strife, the inhabitants of Ultima had finally learned their lesson. The insane Brutun had been killed by the very ones who once served him: the Ethereon Protectorate, so now peace could finally take over. The Protectorate joined the Kingdoms together, forming the One Kingdom, and placed its control in the hands of the Pokemon of the Plane, who were permitted to elect leaders to lead them in a joint Council, transforming the One Kingdom into a democracy.
Ultiman society has completely and utterly rejected religion. These Pokemon are of the sciences, as have they always been. Since the dawn of their existence, Ultimans have striven to discover more about their world and reality itself, eventually leading to the discovery of Ethereality and its ten Planes. Today, Ultiman society is still recovering from the events of the Second Great Strife, even after ten years, but they're doing a good job at it. Pokemon from two once-separated Kingdoms who were once mortal enemies have learned to live and work together.

Spoiler:
The Ethereon Protectorate – known by some as angels, and others as extraterrestrials – are the very reason that Ethereality hasn't been ripped apart by Strife. These peacekeepers travel the Planes using Warps, specially designed machines that can bend the fabric of Ethereality to open portals into other Planes. The Protectorate's job is to prevent Strife from happening in any of the Planes, so as to keep that Plane from being destroyed by the Strife its own inhabitants create. Naturally, the nature of Pokemon dictates that where there are Pokemon, there will always be Strife. It is simply the way life works. However, wherever there is Strife, there is the Ethereon Protectorate to put an end to it.
The Protectorate organizes itself into four classes of Protectors, which are as follows:
Initiates – Children from ages four to seven with potential are recruited to learn and train to become Protectorate members. The Initiates receive very basic combat training and lessons on strategy and philosophy, in order to prepare them for either the life of a Keeper or a Watcher.
Neophyte – After an Initiate has passed the Initiation Trials, they can move up to the rank of Neophyte in their adolescence. During this time, Pokemon begin to learn by doing, being taken out on missions and receiving far more intense training/lessons than before. It is during this time that Neophytes must decide whether to take the path of a Keeper or a Watcher.
Keeper – If a Neophyte chooses to follow the way of the warrior and train to become an elite combatant, they are eligible to become Keepers, and must pass the Neophyte Trials. Keepers are the fighters of the Protectorate, trained in various forms of martial arts and experts at using their various attacks. They are also skilled leaders, often leading groups of Keepers and Watchers into battle. Despite their power, they are taught never to use their strength for evil, and only to use it when absolutely necessary. After all, 'Keeper' is short for 'peacekeeper', which is exactly what they must do. They often make a great team with Watchers.
Watcher – If a Neophyte decides to focus on studying philosophy, strategy, and technology, they are eligible to become a Watcher, and must pass the Neophyte Exams. Watchers are the intellectuals, the driving force behind the Protectorate. They devise plans and strategies, and are often the 'brains' of any squad. Though fighting it not their specialty, they still know how to defend themselves. They also are very insightful Pokemon, with a much broader view of Ethereality than the average Pokemon. Some Watchers are also experts in terms of technology. These grease-monkey Watchers can often invent nifty gadgets for other Protectors to use on missions, and are expert mechanics, being able to fix just about anything mechanical. They take full advantage of the technological advancements of Ultima, and it should be noted that throughout Ultiman history, Watchers have invented essential things like Stabilis transmitters. Watchers are named so because they use a special device known as the 'Ethereality Scope' to see through the endless Ethereality and into other Planes. By doing this, they can spot Strife before it happens. They often make a great team with Keepers.
Warden – A Keeper who studies the way of the Watcher, or a Watcher who trains to become a Keeper, and succeeds and becomes a master of both, is eligible to become a Warden, the most powerful and wise members of the Protectorate. Only true prodigies are capable of becoming both a Keeper and a Watcher, so there are only a handful of Wardens in existence. These Wardens make up the Guardian Council, who essentially lead the Protectorate; they make important decisions regarding missions, and are often the ones to hand them out. They are also often found leading squads of Keeper and Watchers on missions, though it depends on whether or not those Wardens are available. The Guardian Council's process of decisions are slow and organized, meaning they can no longer keep up with the rising Strife in the Planes. The Wardens are named so because they are literally the wardens of the Ethereon Protectorate, effectively making them the Wardens of Ethereality itself.

Xilfer123's Alistair "Phoenix" Furie:
Spoiler:
Name: Alistair "Phoenix" Furie
Age: 35
Sex: Male
Species: Blaziken
Class: Keeper
Moves: Blaze Kick, Fire Punch, Flamethrower, Flare Blitz, Sky Uppercut, Brave Bird
Appearance:
Phoenix's eyes are most intimidating; the irises are a deep, menacing green, coupled with a bright white sclera, to make the green in his eyes stand out. Some have referred to his eyes as 'soul-piercing' due to their intimidatingly bright overall look. The Blaziken's feather 'hair' is bleached a bright white, similarly to his eye, as are his chest feathers and the bottom portions of his legs. The rest of his feathers are a dark, shadowy red. He has a black, burn-like scar on his chest in the shape of a Z.
Personality: Phoenix is a modest Pokemon, preferring not to boast about his abilities. Despite his icy calm exterior, Phoenix is a kind soul who is devoted to protecting the Planes from Strife. Although he doesn't often say it, any experienced Pokemon can tell that Phoenix is also very intelligent; his intelligence rivals that of a wise Psychic-type, and his extraordinary eye sight is akin to that of a Staraptor. He analyzes and strategizes unusually quickly for someone of his species, and even more for someone of his relatively young age. He is also very philosophical and open-minded, often pondering questions concerning the meaning of life and the essence of Ethereality.
Phoenix is a talented Keeper, and an expert at Ta-Koro, a fire-based martial arts form only known to be practiced by Blaziken, Infernape, and Emboar. Phoenix is a self-disciplined individual who stands for the virtues of honor and compassion, and will never fail to stand up for them. He keeps himself calm at all times, and tries to keep his comrades in check as often as he can. Despite this, he has a secret fiery fury which resides deep within him. He only unleashes this power when his pain, suffering and anger are too much to bear, or in extreme and desperate situations. It would take something incredibly horrible to break his icy calm and set him off. Phoenix often keeps his emotions bottled up, usually only sharing his thoughts and feelings with those close to him. His anger and hatred, in particular, he keeps trapped inside, which also contribute to building up his dark rage which he keeps locked away.
History: Alistair Furie's exact origins are unknown. One day, in the grand city of Malga, in the great Plane of Ultima, a star was seen falling from the sky. Knowing that this was unusual, Master Tiberius Furie of the Ethereon Protectorate was sent to invesitage. The impact of the 'star' had left a crater on the face of the city, levelling several buildings in the process. At the center of the crater lay a single Torchic, shivering. Tiberius later discovered that the young Torchic had been the object that fell from the sky. The Protectorate deduced that the young one must have been an accidental arrival from another Plane, though there was no way to tell which Plane he had come from. The only indication was a strange Z-Shaped scar on the Torchic's chest.
Tiberius Furie made an unexpected decision a few weeks after the incident. He and his wife had ceaselessely been trying to produce a child, but to no avail. Furie, in a rather rash and heart-felt choice, adopted the little Torchic from the sky as his own son, dubbing him Alistair Furie.
As the young Alistair grew, his reputation as an otherworlder became known, and his childhood friends would often refer to him as the "Phoenix", a reference to the mythological fire-bird who was said to cross the Planes. He would later be referred to as the "Phoenix" by everyone he knew. The young Phoenix became fascinated with his origins, and could only speculate about where he came from. At the young age of 5, he joined the Ethereon Protectorate's newest group of Initiates, under the guidance of his father, Tiberius. During his tie in the Initiates, he learned the true meaning of being a Protector. They taught him the importance of bravery, honor, and trust. Phoenix was a prodigy while in the Initiates, what a brilliant mind and a strong arm, he was put under the Initiate Trials at the young age of 14, far below the average of 17. However, that's when it happened.
The First Great Strife of Ultima was devestating for Malga. Jophias had grown weary of Malga's rule, and had developed a rebellion against them. Being on the wrong side of the Strife, Malga suffered greatly from the continuous attacks of the rebellion. During the first few months of the war, the Ethereon Protectorate fought alongside Malga's military forces, causing all previous events to be put on hold due to the war effort. Phoenix was unable to graduate from the Initiates, even after the Protectorate separated from Malga. Only after 4 years of ceaseless fighting did the war end. The Protectorate and all its members relocated to their new Kingdom of Ethereon, and finally, Phoenix was able to graduate to the rank of Neophyte at age 18. He was now able to experience what it meant to be a Protector for the first time.
Phoenix, though he graduated rather late, turned out to be an excellent Neophyte. He demonstrated acute knowledge in both combat and intelligence, in the words of his tutors. Although he had his mind set on becoming a Warden, he first chose the path of the Keeper, graduating from his Neophyte group at age 25. However, it was during this time that i happened again: The Second Great Strife of Ultima. This war was far worse than the first, especially on Phoenix himself. This time, Malga had broken the truce between the two Kingdoms, and attacked Jophias, thus starting the war. The Ethereon Protectorate was quick to act, sending their most talented Protectors to resolve the conflict.
Phoenix and Tiberius, along with a squad of four Watchers, had been sent to parley with the King of Malga, Brutun. However, they were ambushed by Brutun's troops, who had thought that they were coming to kill him. The troops managed to surprise and overpower the Protectors, leaving Phoenix and his friend Thrace as the only survivors.
The death of Phoenix's father Tiberius Furie was a heavy hit on his emotional state. He mourned the death of his father for weeks, blaming himself for what had happened. He believed he should have fought harder. Still, he knew who was truly to blame: the Kingdom of Malga. This was when Phoenix first discovered another side to him. One that brought out rage and despair from the deepest corners of his mind.
Frustrated and hateful, Phoenix snuck into Malga and unleashed his fury. In his rampage, he slaughtered hundreds of innocent Malgans in cold blood, blaming all of them for his father's death. He didn't just kill the men, but the women, and the children too. He set houses alight and killed entire families.
After everything, nobody knew exactly what had happened in Malga. Nobody but Phoenix. He was more than ashamed of himself than he could express. Not only ashamed, but afraid. This newfound power of hatred within him was something he'd never felt before, and it made him afraid that next time, he might try to kill his friends... He had commited an act of pure evil, and went unpunished, for he decided to keep it a secret. The Ethereon Protectorate never actually found out what had happened that day in Malga, as there were no witnesses left to report anything. The heinous act was blamed on the soldiers of Jophias and the war continued for another two years, before it finally came to a stop. Though he fought bravely, Phoenix was never the same after that incident. He became calm, solitary, and secretive. He also would often display a hesitance to fight unless it was really necessary, for fear of his powers. After the war finally finished and the One Kingdom was formed, Phoenix would often spend days, if not weeks, on his own. Sometimes he trained, other times he studied. Last year, he gave up his Keeper duties and became secluded in his studies towards becoming a Watcher.
He spends most of his days alone in his quarters, studying ancient literature and scriptures, as well as philosophy and strategy.
Other: In his younger years, before the Malga incident in the Second Great Strife, Phoenix was adventerous and outgoing, taking pride in his power.
