Cape City
The search for the anomaly among the citizens of Cape continued, with Ancients pursuing their target through many homes. Deluge questioned the trying to locate the Pokemon, and instead figured the better way to go about this was to have that Pokemon come to them. If it were Gold Tribe, which Deluge figured was a possibility, they would definitely come running. Snype approached the Sentinels, exiting from a home along with a Mismagius.
Deluge rolled his eyes annoyingly at Snype, as he motioned for Ancients to tie up the Pokemon he dragged out. "Of course there are underground tunnels beneath us. There always have been. But what exactly do you expect us to do about it? It's a labyrinth down there. There are literally hundreds of passageways that extend for miles under the city, and beyond it. In all of our occupation, no, in all of the Alpha Alliance's knowledge of these tunnels, they have yet to be fully explored. Using Ancients to track someone through there would be a squander. A waste of resources. Besides, no one can navigate through that maze to begin with."
It was true. As far as anyone knew, the renowned Cape City underground tunnels were impassable. Many explorers in the past have attempted to find ways in the city, but none have successfully outlined a map of the labyrinth of passages. Exploration of the tunnels has largely been abandoned by the Alpha Alliance a while ago, though sometimes some Pokemon have been known to try their luck at them, though few, if any, end up returning. However, about 100 years ago, an ancient, deserted city was discovered as apart of the tunnels system. The Alpha Alliance figured it was an old Alpha Alliance city from long ago. Having it closer to the surface and easier to access than most other locations, the Alpha Alliance decided to reuse the city. From then, right up to the invasion, the old city, named Old Cape City (though some call it Ancient City), was used for training exercises by the Gold Tribe (as Gold Tribe Academy was in the city above) and sometimes the Alpha Alliance. When the Silver Tribe invaded, they set up the majority of Ancient forces in the base below in Old Cape, although numerous others patrol the Wall of Cape City as well.
"Still," Another voice said behind Deluge. Deluge floated around to see Scar approaching the other Sentinels. "We may as well prepare in whatever way we can." He glanced at a Kabutops soldier next to him, and commanded to him. "Inform the Ancients in Old Cape to mobilize. I suggest we guard all entrances into the tunnels, and send smaller parties to patrol the nearby tunnels connecting to Old Cape and Cape City. At least the ones we know about. We may not be able to find them, but they aren't catching us by surprise again, if they try."
The Kabutops hurriedly headed to the path down into the tunnels to Old Cape City, while Deluge eyed Scar. "Scar, where have you been all morning?"
"Oh…just sleeping off the weariness of yesterday." He replied, adding an eerie smile. His eyes darted to Genevieve for the briefest of moments, but turned to Snype almost immediately after. "Anyway, I'd like to see what the new Sentinel has plotted in his noggin…" Scar once more turned his attention to a nearby Omastar. "Bring us a dozen or so citizens. We have a demonstration in order." He ordered. The Ancients around methodically gathered up Pokemon that were the closest to them, disregarding species, age, or sex. It was a trait Deluge always admired in the servants of the Silver Tribe, their lack of prejudice in their targets. They would mercilessly slaughter any Pokemon without a second thought, whether a male, female, child, or even infant. Ancients saw no division. They were all equal targets, and regarded them all the same, as was seen as they brought the screaming Pokemon to the center of the street, tossing them onto the cold, hard marble floor right before the Sentinels. Scar crossed his arms and gazed upon the Sabeleye, seeing what he wanted to do next. He glanced once more at Genevieve as well, smiling as he did moments before.
"Sleep well?" He asked her mischievously.
Cape City Tunnels
As the Gold Tribe began to make their way through the darkness of the tunnels, Zane found himself approached inside by the Salamence Blitzkrieg, asking whether or not they should issue the challenge of the Gold Tribe to Dinorah. He mentioned that he may have known her father.
"Ah, so she has some Gold Tribe connections? Interesting…" He said in a matching lowered voice, looked back at her while they were still close to the opening of the tunnel before the top was close, and the light to see her with was effectively gone. At this lack of light, Dinorah spoke up.
"Well, I'm effectively blind down here..." She muttered in a low voice as she followed Zane as closely as she could. She extended a vine toward him from under her flower, stopping halfway. "Mind if I wrap a vine loosely around your waist to be extra sure I don't lose you guys?"
"Go ahead." He replied. "In fact, let's all try to stay close to the Pokemon in front of you, so that we won't get lost." Zane turned back to Blitzkrieg next to him and replied to his other question. His voice remained in a whisper to ensure no unnecessary Pokemon heard them.
"I suppose if she would like to, and she can prove herself as capable enough, then we can do something later, should we have the time. For now, I suppose we can watch her and see what she can do. Let's keep an eye out."
TrueStriker, seemingly concerned with Bloodthirster's latest statement, as well as the noise level, decided to speak through telepathy, which Zane concluded was the wisest thing at the moment. They had to keep their presence as concealed as possible.
All the while Lashire was flinching at the noise and closed his eyes tightly, stopping in place and whispered to the others. "Do you WANT to get caught?" He hissed out. "Stop shouting out. The echos carry for quite a while." He hissed as he glared at Salamance especially.
"Just... stay quiet, okay?" He began to lead again and made a left turn and the group could see a bright light ahead. "That's the patrols, stay quiet." He hissed as he continued to lead them forward. By the time they reached the end of the tunnel the light had already dissappeared down another tunnel.
He continued to lead for some time, every so often they would see a light from another tunnel but it would quickly disappear when the Pawniard let them on. "Okay, we're almost there. Just stay quiet." He said softly. "There is usually a large patrol up ahead. We need to be quick." He paused here and gazed out into the next tunnel, frowning. "Oh dear..."
Zane followed as quietly as he could behind the scouts. In the back of his mind, he couldn't help but draw his thoughts to the Gold Crystal. It was here, somewhere deep down these tunnels. Once they had finished with this mystery Pokemon, they would have to find it. He only hoped Guardia would have been able to figure out where it was based on memory. However, perhaps Zane's dream could also help, if any of it was valid. When Lashire suddenly stopped, staring over into the next tunnel, Zane came next to him. "What's the matter?" He asked in a whisper.
Lashire flinched and quickly shook his head at his voice and grabbed Zane's head and turned it so he could see. There were a good ten Ancients in the tunnel just... standing there. "We can't get through with them!" He hissed into his ear. "We bother them then the whole tunnel system will light up! We'll be surrounded in moments!"
He paused, "Okay... get your gold buddies ready. I'm going to throw a distraction. When it goes off, run. Run as fast as you can!" With that Lashire turned about and began to head back in the direction they had just come from, headed down another tunnel and dissappeared rather quickly. It only took a few minutes but there came the sound of a loud crash, almost as if a tunnel had collapsed. Immediately the Ancients perked up and ran off toward the sound.
Zane, as was instructed, informed the others to prepare themselves as soon as the distraction Lashire would make set off. As soon as the sound was made and the Ancients ran toward it, Zane hissed to the others to move forward to where the Ancients used to be, down the tunnel. Zane tried to combine as much steal with speed as he could without attracting attention, even though it really wasn't his strongsuit, especially with the tint of his skin. Still, he did his best as the Gold Tribe sprinted down the now-free tunnel. He didn't go too far ahead, as he awaited for Lashire to return to help lead them the rest of the way.
Unfortunately, that seemed to be a mistake on his part as an Ancient was making its way back. It seemed that there were already too many other Ancients blocking up the collapsed tunnel. The Kabutops caught sight of the Gold Tribe, and as it opened it's mouth to let out an alarm a Tyrogue fell down from the celing and grabbed onto his throat tightly and another hand reached out and clamped its mouth shut. Without any warning the Tyrogue pulled out a rather nasty looking dagger from his pants and suddenly slammed it right into the back of the Ancient's neck, digging it in deep as he held the mouth closed.
Blood leaked out over the young pokemon but he didn't seem that bothered by the liquid as he pushed it in deeper and deeper, but as the Ancient fell he quickly twisted the body in mid air so the Tyrogue feet touched the ground first. He held the Ancient's corpse and slowly lowered it to the ground and without another word turned about and ran down the tunnel, pausing to motion to the Gold Tribe to follow as he continued to run.
Zane was caught off guard by the appearance of the Tyrogue, especially as he ran off, but he figured he would want them to follow. His motioning of them to follow confirmed it, so Zane nodded at the Tyrogue, and followed, motioning for the Gold Tribe to follow behind as well. Be on alert. Zane reminded them telepathically through the link TrueStriker had set up earlier.
Saul led them for a while and it seemed that the Ancients didn't patrol this part of the tunnels. Saul stopped and glanced about. He pushed his hands against a part of the wall and the rocky surface suddenly began to open. "This way." He stated as he headed inside. He waited for the last Gold Tribe member to enter before pushing a button on another wall and the wall that had opened closed up quickly. Already inside was Lashire with the still sleeping Eevee on his shoulders. "What happened?"
Saul leaned against a wall, still covered in blood. "What ya think? They stopped. You know, it's good of me to have stayed back and waited up there! Sheesh! They are idiots!"
Lashire frowned at his words but turned to Zane and smiled widely. "We are actually here Mr. Vigil!" He stated proudly. I will ask you all to stay here for the moment while we enter the main cavern. It's procedure and also... with a Scizor in your group and the fact that the Sentinels do enlist former Gold Tribe members, you could easily be mistaken for Sentinels, no need to get shishkabobed with all kinds of attacks right?" He asked with a smile.
Saul readjusted his pack. "Yeah, stay tight and don't do anything stupid like, say, readying an attack or something." He muttered. "That will lead to death instantly."
"I understand." Zane said, nodding to them.
With that the two began to walk further down the tunnel to a wall. Lashire knocked three times and the wall slid open letting the two pokemon in and quickly closed behind them.
As the Gold Tribe waited, Zane turned to the others. "Everyone all here? Everyone alright?" He asked to confirmed that everyone was still around. He made a quick headcount to confirm. It seemed all the Gold Tribe, plus Dinorah, was present, and unharmed. "Alright, good. Now, we don't know who exactly this Pokemon is, or what he is capable of, so we should be cautious. But remember, we're here to work together with them. Still, let's make sure to keep our eyes open, just in case."
However, that plan would have to wait. Once Zane had finished speaking the group would hear light hissing sound. Suddenly green smoke was pouring out of the walls and right into the tunnel! The gas was very thick in fact and would cause one to cough thus having to take in more breaths and thus more of the gas.
Zane began to cough as he felt the gas inhale into his system. As he looked onto the others as they experienced similar symptoms, he noticed his vision begin to blur. Black spots appeared on it among the coughs, and he felt himself become drowsy. The room seemed to be spinning, and he had trouble keeping his balanced. He noticed as Guardia fell to the ground, followed by Speculum, and then the larger thud of Sword and Shield, followed by the rest of the Gold Tribe. Zane struggled to keep himself up, but eventually the fume took hold of him, his vision failing, followed by him blacking out.
The search for the anomaly among the citizens of Cape continued, with Ancients pursuing their target through many homes.
