Red hack: Pokémon: Righteous Red and Righteous Green (Completed!) Version 1.4.2 (3/17/25)

Is it possible to get items like metal coat or kings rock before the Indigo Plateau?
Nope.
We wanted to keep focus on the original 151 and have the extra evolutions be late game content. However, keep in mind that the later evolutions are much stronger than usual since they're evolving from an already buffed pre-evolution.
Scyther and Onix in particular are both very menacing now.

While I do understand the sentiment behind keeping later evolutions after the league because of the buffed pre-evolutions, I think most folks would prefer to use a weaker form of the pre-evolved buffed mon, if it means that they could've used its evolved form in their playthrough and into the hall of fame.

Updated to version 1.3.0
Every evolution is now available!
Green has been incorporated into the story and a special secret boss has been added in! For more details, see the first post! Keep in mind that you will need a fresh Red rom to patch and previous saves will not work! Enjoy. :)

I'm a couple hours into the game and I'm really enjoying it so far. I particularly appreciate the map changes and the way the game is re-ordered. Thank you to the hack makers.

Having said that, I would love it if there was an update or alternative patch with new Pokemon sprites. The back sprites in particular have not aged well. I tried applying the gen 2 graphics patch and it broke the game.

Also, I think Tangrowth should get ice moves now that it's half water, but whatever.

We have been taking this into consideration for the next large scale patch alongside the Battle Tower!

This definitely seems interesting, the addition of new areas reminds me of Parallell emerald. Do you have plans on fixing the backsprites?
I wanted to inform you that after much deliberation between my team and fellow players of Righteous Red, we have decided to preserve the original sprites and back sprites as a homage to the original wackiness of the Gen 1 era. Just wanted to lyk in case you were holding out still! ^-^;

Hi everyone!
Why is it so hard to find magmar in this game?
I mean i have every Pokémon from gen 1 except magmar and i am looking for it in the grassy area of route 3!

Hello, I really want to try this game out on delta but I might be having some trouble downloading it. Do I have to use a patcher to play this game? Can someone take me through the steps to play this rom hack? Thank you

Hello xNightdazerX,

Looks great, I'll have to give it a download. I love Gen 1 hacks because they tend to be more streamlined than other hacks.

Do you have any resources to get into Gen 1 Pokémon hacking or where someone could start with learning how to as a complete newbie to the scene? Seems almost all the resources I can find are for Gen III. The wiki articles under the pokered disassembly seem to be a lot more than what I have experience with between Windows Subset for Windows and building/installing RGBDS. Wasn't sure if there was an easier on-ramp that I am missing. Thank you!

Hmmm....
Well, see-- I'm the concept creator and when my work on the project began, it was super primitive rom hacking tools that I utilized at first. You'll need to talk to Righteous Red's core programming developer for better advice on the subject. He's located on our Discord server under the tag "CamelConvention"
