What do you think it would be the best way for Pokémon games to handle saving?

Do you prefer the current way, in which you can save everywhere, whenever you want?

Would you prefer an autosave similar to Dark Souls so that if you miss your chance to get a Legendary, to defeat someone, or anything of that sort which would require loading a previous save would no longer work as it'd autosave the current progress?

Or would you prefer a more anime-based way of saving, such as being able to save only inside the Pokémon centers or alternatively buy a tent and "use" it to save outdoors?

For a standard Pokémon game, autosaves would be inappropriate. They're used in games where you just keep moving forward, but in a Pokémon game you could spend ages in the same area grinding or hunting a rare Pokémon. Saving should be optional, and be something the player chooses to do.

Beyond that, I don't have a preference. Checkpoints (i.e. saving only at certain locations) would help to prevent players from resetting a legendary hoping to get it with the best nature/ability/stats, although there would be more of a walk to get where you want to go which players may not like.

I see, thanks for the input!

I think having the ability to save only in certain locations would make certain get-through locations more challenging but there's also the possiblity that a player has to quit half-way through and it would be annoying, so maybe an anime-way approach would be best.

So either have consumable tent items to save anywhere or maybe some "save points" one at the beginning and one midway/near ending...

Pokemon games are already a pain in the ass, not being able to save where you want would just make it more obnoxious.
