- - THE STORY - -

In 24 hours exactly this year's Pokemon Grand Tournament, the most popular tournament in all of the Pokemon World, is going to begin. Every year thousands of people tune in to watch the three week long competition, with each year having a new location, new faces, and new rules. But this year you aren't watching. You are in the Pokemon Grand Tournament.

You just arrived at the stadium complex, on Thayla Island, off the coast of the Sinnoh region, your three competing Pokemon with you, but very little else. Upon entering the island you were given a rulebook, and a pass for your room, but what interests you most right now is the complex itself. The building is amazing, a colossal stadium with four housing areas, one on each side, as well as a buildings for audience housing back away from the main. All around are people, be it competitors, viewers, performance acts, or vendors, and from the mouths of some come rumours about this year's ruleset.

Instead of one on one battles, trainers have been paired off into teams, even having to share a room for the next three weeks. It's a part of, this year's sponsor, the Veilstone Corporation's chosen theme: Legends of the Sinnoh Region. The teams are supposed to represent balance and the ability to work in perfect unison as the divine Pokemon of legend did.

You've got a lot ahead of you, even more than you think. In 24 hours the tournament is going to begin, and you and your partner are going to discover that you're more connected than just through being paired up at random. You are linked by fate.
You can communicate to each other with just a thought, and may even start to develop more powers as the bond between you and your partner grows.

But something is wrong here, and as the hours progress it will become more and more evident to you. But in order to solve this mystery and maybe even win the tournament you're going to have to work together with your partner and battle in perfect synchronicity.

- - THE ISLAND - -

This island is named Thayla Island after the owner of Veilstone Corporation, who bought the island fifteen years ago. The Veilstone Stadium takes up most of the island, as do the venues listed here:

Island Admission

Spoiler:

Island Admission checks the items carried by anyone entering the island and makes sure that all registered tournament contestants arrive and are housed. Island Admission will be closed after the tournament starts until it ends.

Housing

Spoiler:

There is a large housing area for the audience behind the main stadium that overlooks the sea. It has no theme, unlike the four Competitor Housings.

The four housing areas for contestants are located on all four sides of the arena. These are called, Space, Time, Creation, and Distortion, and are themed after the four divine legends they are named for.

Front Lawn

This is the area in front of the stadium complex. Performances unrelated to the main competition sometimes occur out here, and there are many vendors selling various merchandise.

The Beach

There is a beach on the western island. There are chairs set up, and some vendors venture out far enough to sell their goods on the beach. The water is cold and rough however, so swimming is not advised.

These are the actual rules that RPers must follow:

- - All PC rules apply. Every last one.
- - No god-modding.

- - You may write a joint post with your partner if you so choose.
- - Your partner will be random. However, you can request to change partners if you and your partner cannot RP together well. (Time zone problems, for example.)

Also, although Arceus is supposed to be more powerful that the other three legendaries, they are being regarded as equal in this RP. So hopefully no-one will pitch a fit about Creation.


- - THE BEGINNING - -

- - Day One

Well now that you're here you might as well look around. You have 24 hours of free time to get acquainted with the island and the people on it (though it's advised that you sleep at some during those hours). Your first priority should probably be to go find your partner, and settle in your room, but that's all up to you. Nobody will stop you from doing something else, unless that something is illegal or against the rules, that is.

Today no special events are going on until tonight. Most of the vendors are setting up, and would probably prefer not to be bothered. The weather is nice though, so the beach is a place you may want to check out if you decide to explore.

Ryudo took his first step off the ship and paused to take in the crisp air.

"So here it is, our next test... C'mon guys, let's go."

He looked down at the room pass and rule book that he had been handed on the ship. 'Space House. Partner: Malik Daniel.' He decided to give the book a quick skim and look around the island a little before meeting his partner; he knew his Pokémon could do with a break too after the training they'd been put through on the ferry. He gazed around whilst slowly scouting the area, noticing some performers setting up their stalls. They were all too busy to talk, but Ryudo was more than happy to help one elderly woman set up her stage containing a couple giant hoops and a huge tank of water; he made note that he'd have to make sure to return later to see exactly what her act was. He continued to lazily wander the island in hopes of some kind of adventure sparking up, but there were few people around this early as everyone was busy setting up for the weeks to come so he headed over to the beach and let his Pokémon have some fun relaxing in the sand. After killing some time with Emolga, Ryudo made his way over to the main complex before checking in at the registration counter and being directed to his room. "This way, please!"

The room was quite simply wondrous. Ryudo took note of the long purple velvet ribbons draped down from the ceiling against the pale pink walls. This was obviously meant to represent Palkia; the Pokémon of legend supposedly responsible for creating and maintaining space. Though he didn't believe these myths for a second; no one Pokémon could be capable of such an enormous feat. Two towering bed chambers were present at the back of the room atop a wonderfully shaggy purple carpet that spanned right from wall to wall. "Mm, can't wait to try those out", he thought to himself. The room was equipped with more than enough entertainment systems to keep anyone occupied and a whole bookshelf full of literature if you prefer to read, but none of this mattered to Ryudo as he was already exhausted from the trip and so collapsed on the soft purple bed. The ambient music in the background was simply too relaxing for Ryudo to stay awake, making him drift off to sleep as he heard footsteps approaching the room.

Malik Daniel (Arriving on the Island)

Morning - Thayla Island

... "Geez!" an angered voice yelled as he almost pole vaulted off of a docking boat. "What a boring ride over here! What kinda tournament is THIS where you have ride a boat with NO other contestants?"

Giving no other complaints as the captain of the vessel chained up his boat to the nearest pole, Malik decided to finally go over his inventory.

Ugh, me and my bad memory... he thought with a saddened scowl. Where did I put that stupid house pass?

After checking almost every nook and cranny of his bag, how many compartments did this bag HAVE, Malik finally came across what he was looking for. The leathery fold-out looked pretty legit, despite everything else he'd seen so far. His name was there in fancy golden print letters, and it had some long list of rules on the next page over.

Never reading these... he thought as he rolled his eyes and turned the page. His eyes caught a picture that intrigued him though. Hmm? Who's this? His eyes ventured over to the next page, under a section labled "Partner Information".

The kid in the photo was apparently male, about 20 from his guess, but he could be older... or younger by Malik's guess.

Ryudo Skye... it read.

"Huh, so this is who they partnered me up with, eh?" Malik said out loud. "Meh, he'll do, I guess ... so long as he's no weakling or something..."

Malik's mind immediately raced over to his auto shop back home in Iccirus City, and his brow furrowed.

No... he thought under his scowl. This kid better not be some weakling if he's partnered up with me! I've got too much riding on this, too much to lose ... And he'd better be willing to pull his own weight our there ...

Speaking of there, Malik wasn't entirely sure of where THERE actually was. He skimmed over his tiny little passport until he came across what looked to be a keycard.

Palkia Housing, huh? ... that's the uh ... the big blue one, right? Malik's mind raced trying to remember, but before he gave himself an unnecessary headache, he let it go and placed the booklet in his right pocket.

"Forget it, let's just find this place and find a place to rest my back. Those wooden seats on that floating deathtrap nearly killed my lower area..." Malik lamented after rubbing the soreness of his backside.

Thank Arceus. He made it...

At least that's all Malik could keep saying to himself, because it was definitely another weird act of fate he didn't end up stranded on the outskirts of the island, lost and without food ...or worse.

Ugh! Shake it off, Malik! he thought with two quick slaps to his face.

Without any other thought he took his belongings and found his way to the staircase. It'd been easy enough getting his information and finding his way into the housing, maybe the rest of the day would go as smoothly.

Well, at least he was about to find out, because he now stood at the door to his room, keycard in hand and ready to unlock it.

Please don't be pink. Please don't be pink. Please don't be pink. Malik thought as he opened the Palkia themed doorway.

He took one quick look into his room, blinked to reassure himself, then frowned automatically.

Damnit... he thought as he took another dreadful look around.

Amaterasu Aoi​

Discount cruise lines... if one was even to call it that. If anything, Amaterasu had spent only three-hundred PokeYen for a trip from Olivine City to Thayla Island, just off the coast of Sinnoh. Not to mention the 'captain' had been engaging, and he had a deccent supply of in-flight snacks in his saddle bag, as promised, as well has having enough space for a rolling suitcase and a Ninetales. The only thing Amaterasu didn't know upon purchasing her ticket was that she'd be riding on the back of a Lapras. Then again, that's what one gets for saving money.​

After traveling all night, the Pokemon finally arrived at the island's port, swimming into a small slip as if he was a boat. The teenager grabbed her belongings, as well as her Ninetales, who was afraid to make the jump over the water onto the dock, and strode off the Pokemon's back. Amaterasu set her fox Pokemo down and looked at her. "So... we're at how many years of curses now Recca? Was it fifty thousand something?"
The Ninetales cocked her head, sighing before letting out a soft "Niiiiiiiiine." This joke had been getting old now. Even someone as superstitious as Amaterasu knew full well that the thousand-year curse for touching a Ninetales' tail was a legend and nothing more... as far as they knew. At least Recca had never managed to curse anyone, not that she'd want to.​

Amaterasu watched as the Lapras tipped his head to her and swam off. Did this Transport Pokemon really have a business ferrying humans across the water? He didn't seem to have any sort of human Trainer or partner. The receptionist at Olivine's port made no hesitation to sell Amaterasu her ticket, so she must have known about this. It was a bizzare way to get to ths Grand Tournament, but she had made it.​

"Okay, where to now, my friend?," the young woman asked, looking at Recca calmly. The Ninetales turned around, pointing a tail at a nearby sign labled 'Admissions' with an arrow pointing toward the end of the harbor. "Right, we should check in first." Amaterasu had always been a bit of a scatterbrain when it came to the modern way of doing things, but she always had Recca to offer assistance. If it weren't for the Fox Pokemon, she would be unable to use a computer to this day.​

Inside the complex, Amaterasu was directed to a large desk, where she was given a leather portfolio containing everything she was told that she needed for the tournament. The girl frowned. "My room key should be in here, but I can't find it," she bluntly told the receptionist, staring curiously at a plastic card with a picture of Giratina and a black stripe. The woman at the service counter appeared puzzled, but spoke sternly, "Miss, you're looking right at it... that's your key."​

Amaterasu picked up the card and fiddled with it. "This talisman... it's my key?," she asked, retaining her blunt tone. "It's so floppy, it's just going to bend when I try to turn it in the lock." She had little experience with the workings of modern technology, and had never seen an electronic key. This thing looked like the paper talismans she used to ward of evil spirits, except it was made of plastic. The miko was still expecting the receptionist to give her a grooved piece of metal to insert into a lock. Instead, the woman narrowed her eyes at her and answered, "It's an electronic keycard.... You slide it through... you'll understand when you reach your room."​

"Right. Thanks," Amaterasu answered, leaving the building with Reccan and her rolling suitcase in tow. As she walked toward the Distortion house, she pored over the information given to her about the tournament, and the person with whom she had been partnered. According to the pamphlet, her name was Eria Estella, and she was from Hearthome City here in the Sinnoh region- a local. Of course, where she came from had little bearing on the events that were to unfold; what Amaterasu needed above all else was a strong partner to assist her in the tournament and stop whatever dark force was presnet here. They had to win, not for the prize money for the glory, but for the sake of humanity and Pokemon alike.​

Recca stopped her Trainer again as she continued to read absent-mindedly and nearly walked past the entrance to the Distortion house. She wrapped a tail around Amaterasu's leg and yanked gently. "Right.... sixty thousand years now, thanks Recca," she mumbled, putting the portfolio down so she could actually pay attention to where she was going. The building looked impressive enough from the outside, with a large Giratina-shaped sign over the main doorway. Alert, the duo walked inside.​

Amaterasu took a turn down a hallway, arriving at room 1D on the ground floor, just like the directions indicated. Taking out the card key, she eyed it curiously, her gaze shifting back and forth between it and the strange mechanism on the door. At first, she tried placing the key on the handle, but nothing happened. Then she put it in the slot, but the magnetic strip faced outward. The room remained locked to her. She would have tried again, but Recca jumped up, snatching the key in her mouth. The Ninetales stood on her hind legs, running the card correctly through the slot. A green light flashed, and the door unlocked.​

The young miko and her Pokemon both smiled as they looked over their accomidations. It was quite a step up from the small bedroom they shared at home, which contained little more than a futon, a low table and cushions, and a dresser. This suite had everything: seperate bedrooms for Amaterasu and her partner (though it still seemed they would have to share a bathroom), kitchenette, a shelf filled with books, as well as a television and advanced stereo system.​

"We need to protect our chambers from any evil spirits," Amaterasu commented, opening up her suitcase. She took out a few talismans and began sticking them on a wall, but Recca was completely uninterested. Already, she was lying on the couch and fiddling with the remote control for the television. "Okay, fine," her Trainer commented plainly. "I guess you do know my weakness. We can wait a bit, but we have to put them on before sunset." She sat down on the sofa next to her Pokemon, flipping through the channels.​

"The heck?" Amaterasu's eyes widened as she saw a bizzare image on the screen for a second. She flipped back to the channel it was on and stared. Looking back at her was a crudely drawn image of a young boy holding a sword and wearing a strange hat that looked like a Cubchoo. At his side was a Stoutland, who suddenly began talking and stretching his legs far beyond reason. Quickly, the miko picked up a talisman and jumped toward the television. "Evil spirit...... BE GONE!!!," Amaterasu shouted at the top of her lungs while Recca just slapped her own face with her paw. Her Trainer sat back down again after coming to a realization. "Nevermind... it's just one of those silly cartoons from Unova.... sorry. Oh well, let's see what this show is like anyway."​

Mina Avery

Mina's eyes glowed with excitement as the boat docked at Thayla Island, and she waited eagerly for the moment when she would be able to set foot on solid ground. "We're finally here, Fire!" she giggled eagerly to the large Charizard standing next to her. Feeling its trainer's excitement, the draconic Pokemon let out a loud roar that caused anyone around to cringe and cover their ears, causing Mina to laugh even more.

A few minutes later, they were walking away Island Admission, Mina holding the leather booklet that contained all of the information she would need for the Grand Tournament. "I wonder wonder who our partner is...," she muttered to herself, flipping through the booklet until she came to the page that contained her partner's information. "Salem, huh?" She studied it for a moment then pushed it right in front of Fire's face, causing the Charizard to reel back in surprise. "What do you think?" the girl asked, Fire merely huffing and turning his head away. "Oh come on, I'm sure he'll be a great partner." She abruptly stopped walking, brightening up suddenly. "Oh! That must be the Dialga House!" Mina took off running for the blue building, not noticing the exasperated look her Pokemon gave her as it followed behind her at a slower pace.

By the time Fire caught up to her, Mina was standing in the middle of their room, staring around at it with bright eyes. "I love it!" she squealed, her Charizard wincing at the high pitched tone. She dumped her bag on the floor before flopping out on one of the plush blue beds, letting herself sink into the soft cushions. Fire let out a small growl, standing over her with his arms crossed. "Oh, relax. I wanna stay here so we can meet our partner," Mina huffed. She bounced up off the bed and twirled around to get another look at the room. Fire gave her another exasperated look, giving up on his crazed trainer and standing by to make sure she didn't hurt herself as she explored every bit of the living quarters.

Orion Pierce

Welcome to Thayla Island, home to this years Pokemon Grand Tournament. Make sure you pick up all your belongings and exit in an orderly manner. Also, all contestants must pick up the rulebook along with house keys before leaveing to admissions....

Orion groaned as he got up, woken from the speakers meant to shepard people off the boat. He had little luck with boats in the first place(memories of Brinney and Peko surface, turning his stomach even worse), though the rough water on the way to the island churned his stomach worse than ussual. He was cot bound most of the journey, unable to get up or move due to nausea. To be on solid ground was a god-send, and he did a quick check before leaving this boat for good.

The attendants at the admissions double checked my Trainer ID, Pokemon brought, and general information before I finally got in. It is weird to think, as the doors shut behind him, that he would not be able to leave until they open the island back up. Not even the audience could leave, one of the reasons, unfortunatly, that his parents were not there. They of course, stayed home to work, though they would probally watch the battles on primetime or something.

A brief itinerary in the front of the book showed that nothing but arriving was happening today, leaving the rest of his day clear. He could go to his room, but decided to wander the beach. It was little surprise that venders would go out into the beach, but they hardly looked ready. At least thier were a few chairs on the beach with umbrellas above them to just relax. He released Desco, Laharl, and Athena, who took a cautious look around before relaxing.

"Enjoy yourselves, because it may be a while before we relax like this." Orion said, before begining to read the fairly short rulebook a few times. Athena drug herself next to him and withdrew, content to just sit their. Orion set a water bottle on her shell, useing her as an improptu table. Desco and Laharl, on the other hand, went down by the shore, intent on makeing a huge sand castle.

From the shadows of the ferry that had transported the Sinnoh locals to the island, a single figure watched from the shadows of the hallways that lines the transport. The bright pink eyes danced around, observing, waiting for the bulk of the passengers to depart from the traveling watercraft. When the coast eventually cleared, a frail looking girl stepped out into the light, adjusting the tiny, black top hat that sat on an angle upon her head of aqua hair.

With a sigh, Eria Estella pushed herself to leave the ship, despite the unsettling feeling she had in her stomach. Traveling by boat was apparently another trial in life that made her feel unwell, and waltzing out into the hot sun in a black dress was not going to help any. Plus, with her extremely pale complexion, she put herself at a high risk of burning... Why did she forget sunscreen, again?

As the ill-dressed girl navigated her way towards the check-in identified by the signs scattered around the pathway, she made a point to walk far off to the side in an attempt to avoid running into too many people. Her personality and upbringing was not at all compatible with crowds, and such a large number of people and Pokemon gathering in one place was a little more than intimidating for her. She was going to have to overcome her discomfort at some point, though, that was part of the reason she had run away from home to come out here. Well, that and the reward money that could hopefully pay her way through some medical treatments that could improve her health. The last thing she needed here, though, was to get sick or have her heart act up again. For now, however, she continued along with her eyes glued to the ground, only looking up on occasion to check her bearings.

"E-Eria Estella..." The girl quietly mumbled her name as it was requested of her at her check-in, getting her a few strange looks. Her form of dress was flashy, but her body looked small and weak. She knew she looked a little younger than she actually was as a result, but she was really sixteen! Eria had no issue receiving her key, and made a bee-line for her House with hopes of getting out of the crowded outdoors as soon as possible.

The Distortion House - her temporary home as mentioned by her pamphlet - thankfully wasn't too far away. Although when she approached the door 1D, she took a moment to catch her breath. Glancing down at the pamphlet, she examined the name of her partner. Amaterasu Aoi? What an odd name... I wonder what she's like though? Her pale face lit up with a dull pink as she thought about this partner. Could they be friends, she wondered? Having no problems with the lock, she poked her head into the room. "H-hello?" She called.

"Evil spirit...... BE GONE!!!" came a loud and sudden reply to her question, causing Eria to panic. "S-sorry!" She exclaimed in a high squeak as her head retreated into the hallway once more, the door slamming behind her. Freaked out, she put her back against the door in order to catch her breath. "Wh-wh-what was that?"

Ryudo meets Malik

"Huh... Wha-OH!" Ryudo jumped up from his dazed sleeping state as he noticed a familliar face appear above him. "What, who... I uhh, wasn't..." He rubbed his eyes and began to think clearly. "Oh, you must be Malik, I saw your picture in the contest guide we were handed! I see you found the room then; my name's Ryudo - it's a pleasure to meet you." Ryudo pegged the man staring at him as looking at least 22, probably even older. Wow, I wasn't expecting a partner like this... He seems pretty old, at least he'll have some decent battle experience. I hope he's not too strong for me... Ryudo shook the man's hand before introducing himself in the manner he'd been taught by Candice.
"Sorry, please forgive my rudeness. As I said, I'm Ryudo, pleased to meet you. I'm 19 and from Snowpoint City in Sinnoh, ever heard of it? It's this quiet city atop a large mountain surrounded by thick forests and numerous caves, and its constantly covered in snow; it's quite beautiful, especially in the Winter." He thought quickly about how he must be sounding to the towering experienced man and quickly changed pace. "Ahem, anyway. I've spent the past 10 years of my life as an adventurer throughout the lands of Sinnoh and Unova. I've met countless people and Pokémon along the way, all of whom I challenged and defeated with ease, and I've even won several big tournaments in the past." This was of course the superficial version of Ryudo's life that he was using to impress his new partner, but he wasn't going to let that show. He knew he could hold his own in a battle and he wasn't going to let his partner think otherwise just because of his age. "Here, meet my Pokémon - Bronzong and Garbodor."

Ryudo gracefully flicked his wrist as the Pokéballs released, opening onto the ground. Arising from the balls in bright blue flashes arised Bronzong and Garbodor, both of which sensed the need to impress and began to pose accordingly. Bronzong extended its arms and used its powers to give itself a powerful pink shine whilst Garbodor prepared its cannon ready to fire. The two looked at each other confidently as if they were age-old rivals preparing for yet another stand-off that'd end in nothing other than a tie before turning to face the mystery man. "Oh, and here's Emolga."

Ryudo chuckled as he turned around, revealing the flying squirrel Pokémon that was clinging to the back of his head asleep. He gave the Electric Pokémon a quick nudge as it awoke from its slumber. "E-Emol? Emolga!" Emolga quickly jumped away from Ryudo's head before attempting to impress with a display of gliding around the room which, despite knocking over and breaking three seperate items, was pretty graceful to watch. Emolga finally ended the display by landing on Garbodor's shoulder and sparking its cheeks energetically - she obviously shared Ryudo's personallity.

"Me and Emolga here have been partners since the very beginning; ever since one terrifying night in a forest being chased by wild-" Ryudo stopped in his speech realising that being chased by wild Luxio wouldn't make for an impressive story to this experienced man, so he took it upon himself to make the story more interesting and so cleared his throat. "Ahem, being chased by a whole herd of wild raging Tauros, accompanied by Skarmory launching an arial assult, and there was even a Moltres at one point! Then Emolga here only had to let out one tiny spark, and it was so strong that all the Pokémon ran away crying!" Ryudo was pretty sure that he'd over-sold it, confirmed by Emolga rolling her eyes with a smirk, but he wasn't going to change his story now.

"So that's us in a nutshell; how about you?"

Day 1 – Jess's Arrival

With Blade at her side on the boat, Jess slowly made her way down onto the island, the Infernape looking at up the manuals and important items she received while on the boat. She scanned the few items on the list, including where she was going to stay. Looks like she was staying in the Creation House with someone named Kirkland Lawrence. The color seemed to drain from her face. "Oh, I hope this isn't a guy," Jess said, holding the document out to Blade.

The Infernape took look at it before jumping back, launching punches at the air. Jess got the message right away, and she laughed with a grin. "Yep, you'll take care of him if he tries anything. Come on." She gestured for Blade to follow and the energetic Pokemon did. The two were allowed quick access when Rayne showed her ID card, and she went down to her assigned room.

It was beautiful – two huge platform beds along with drapes of many different colors – colors that adorned all the different types of Pokemon. It didn't surprise her since Arceus, the Pokemon of the Creation House, could be any type that it wanted to be. Jess chose her bed – the one closest the bed and close to the windows too. Just a beautiful sight.

"Blade, make sure nothing catches fire," Jess choked and her Pokemon snorted, taking a seat on the floor besides the bed. Jess only fell back on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. She knew she couldn't call her other partners out, but soon enough she would.

Ryudo Skye & Malik Daniel -Meet & Greet Feat!

"Oh, you must be Malik, I saw your picture in the contest guide we were handed! I see you found the room then; my name's Ryudo -it's a pleasure to meet you. Sorry, please forgive my rudeness. As I said, I'm Ryudo, pleased to meet you. I'm 19 and from Snowpoint City in Sinnoh, ever heard of it? It's this quiet city atop a large mountain surrounded by thick forests and numerous caves, and its constantly covered in snow; it's quite beautiful, especially in the Winter. Ahem, anyway. I've spent the past 10 years of my life as an adventurer throughout the lands of Sinnoh and Unova. I've met countless people and Pokémon along the way, all of whom I challenged and defeated with ease, and I've even won several big tournaments in the past. Here, meet my Pokémon -Bronzong and Garbodor."

...Oh... My...ARCEUS!! This kid talks ten miles a second! Malik said to himself as he'd formed an opinion of his new partner. Malik didn't even smoke and being in conversation with the younger child was definitely making him crave a stroke or two.

...And just who is he trying to fool with that whole 'I won a million tournaments', bit? he was half-tempted to call him on it, but for the life of him, Malik couldn't get a word in edgewise.

And why wouldn't this kid let go of his hand? They'd been shaking hands since they'd met, with Ryudo goin on about nothing for what seemed like hours. His Pokemon looked decent enough, but that weird Bronzong thing unnerved him, he couldn't place why though.

"Oh, and here's Emolga." Ryudo said as he turned and revealed a sleeping ... flying rat?

"Me and Emolga here have been partners since the very beginning; ever since one terrifying night in a forest being chased by wild- Ahem, being chased by a whole herd of wild raging Tauros, accompanied by Skarmory launching an arial assult, and there was even a Moltres at one point! Then Emolga here only had to let out one tiny spark, and it was so strong that all the Pokémon runnin away crying!" Ryudo finished, thinking that he'd finally come up with a pretty convincing lie... STORY! ... Yeah, that's what he meant ...

Malik, finally realizing that Ryudo had turnt back around to see if he was listening, frantically scrambled for something to say, as to not be extremely rude.

"...Uh... hey, kid. Wanna battle?" He asked with a shrug that could be read as 'better that than nothing'...

Alex Hall

"Don't forget you-" Alex slammed the door before his father could finish another patronising reminder. Yes Dad, of course I have my Pokémon, Alex had had to yell just moments before. Heading out from the Inn, situated in east Canalave City, and heading out across the great iron bridge which joined the two wings together. The pair had been staying in Canalave the past few days, a futile attempt by Alex's Father to 'bond'. In truth he would have had more luck just asking for the future winnings straight up, but luckily for Alex he had become more frugal with age.

Looking out, directly down the Canalave river, Alex spotted his ship. A small boat, maybe capable of carrying a few dozen people at most, but a ship non-the-less. Removing a Pokéball from his belt, and flicking it lightly in the air, Alex let out a Pokémon.

"Caww, cawww!" The Pidgeot spiralled up between the bridge's many beams and wires before landing gently on the railing beside Alex. Squirt had grown up with Alex, she knew him better than any of his other pokémon. She spotted the odd sparkle in his eyes, the kind of passion he was often found lacking in, and noticed his slightly upturned lips, forming some kind of odd smile, smirking into the distance.

"Thayla Island isn't far from here," Alex mumbled to himself, "We'll be there in no time, Squirt." The Pidgeot cooed in agreement, soon the pair would be entering a tournament. A full blown tournament. Gym Leaders had been a good challenge, but these competitors would be at a whole new level, Alex looked forward to putting up a good fight though - he wasn't one to go down so easily.

Noticing movement, Alex drew his gaze back to the small ship. It looked like people were starting to board. "Damn, looks like we're late, Squirt - Return!" He commanded as he ran the second half of the bridge, the Pidgeot shooting towards him in a ball of red light, hurrying towards the dock beyond Canalave City Gym. A line of eager trainers had assembled outside, awaiting the Captain's orders to board, "Paradise awaits," Alex smiled to himself.

The ship rocked into place, Thayla Island was beautiful at this time of year - clear skies and so much warmer than Alex was used to at Snowpoint City; he quickly slipped out of his jacket, leaving only his black and white stripped T-shirt and a loose red scarf around his neck.

A steady stream of passengers, slightly wobbly from their sea journey, were headed towards, what a big sign called, 'Admissions'. Alex dutifully followed, cautiously eyeing up his competition as he headed towards the building. Inside the true chaos of the tournament was apparent, with even more people queuing up at reception, where Alex hastily followed. Soon enough he was waiting at the desk.

"Err... Alex Hall?" He said vaguely, hoping the receptionist could point him in the right direction.

"Let me check that for you!" She responded, in a voice so high that it shot right through Alex. He wondered how a woman in such a menial, depressing job could sound so optimistic - especially when she had a line of half a dozen hopeless trainers to attend to. "A.Hall, Creation Block," she announced proudly, handing over a card key, "that's just over there," she added - pointing to a second edit out of the reception hall.

Alex headed in that direction, releasing Squirt back into the open as he got outside, "'Creation Block'" he said, mockingly, "Any ideas? Maybe if we pray to Arceus..." he joked, following the path towards the arena with his Pidgeot circling above with his luggage in tow. Luckily the house soon came into view, and Squirt was saved from an entourage of sarcastic comments about the other houses as well. The card key was readily accepted by the door-scanner, and soon enough he was inside the Creation House and looking for his room.

"This is the one!" He cheered half heartedly, pushing the door open and lugging his bag in, "Wait what?" He exclaimed, as he noticed not one but two beds.

"Well, Medicham was hoping for luxury I suppose," he shrugged, releasing his Pokémon and making himself at home.

Kirkland Lawrence

Kirkland Lawrence sighed as he stared out to sea, it's waves seemingly going on forever. Why was he bored to death? He chose the cheapest way to travel and used his very own Pokemon, his Gyarados known as Anaklusmos. It didn't cost anything, but there was no one else except for him and his Pokemon. He began to climb onto Anaklusmos' head, the Pokemon showing his own awareness with a roar.

"Oh calm down Anaklusmos," Kirkland said, his mind thinking about the day ahead. "You're just trying to play with me and I know it. Anyways, do you like the exercise? Haven't you been surfing all night?"

The Gyarados simply roared in reply, it's choice hidden in his tone. Smiling, the trainer looked ahead to see an island on the horizon. "Looks like that's Thayla Island. You'll get some rest soon." The island was his destination as well as his to-be home for the next few weeks. Once there, he and his Pokemon would partake in the Pokemon Grand Tournament. Within seconds, he slipped into a somewhat daydream-like state, his mind focused only at what was soon to be at hand.

The pair soon reached the island, their waiting finished. "Thanks Anaklusmos," he said, raising his Pokeball. A light appeared as he aimed it at his Pokemon, the Gyarados disappearing within seconds. With that done, Kirkland started for the reception area. All around he could see trainers and spectators alike, all of them there for the tournament. Of course, that also meant that the receptions desk was pretty full. I guess I'll need to be patient, he thought.

After what seemed to be an hour, Kirkland reached the desk to find a fairly optimistic receptionist. "Well hello there," she said. "What can I do for you?"

For some reason, Kirkland was caught off guard. He had expected someone fairly crabby, especially if they did this for a living. "Umm, I'd like to check in," he answered. "I'm Kirkland Lawrence."

"Kirkland... Here's your things. The pamplet will tell you where to go and the key card will let you in."

Kirkland nodded his thanks and walked towards his new place. So, I'll be living in the creation house. I'll also seem to have a partner. Jess Long. Was the person a boy or a girl? Sighing, he released his Espeon and Lucario, named Harmony and Hope respectively. "We have more partners," he told them, "so please, don't be too restless."

The Pokemon simply nodded in reply. Kirkland smirked and set his key into the scanner, unlocking the door instantly. "Here we go."

The room was colorful to say the least. Enough of them for every single type of Pokemon. The room consisted of a reasonable sized kitchen, bathroom (only one?), living area, two platform beds, and an Infernape. The bed next to the Infernape, however, was occupied by a girl, roughly the same age as Kirkland.

"Hello there."

 

[Kularian]

Isaac frowned at the captain of the ship, the large man folding his arms over his chest as he looked down on the ship owner. "What do you mean I can't bring him aboard?" he asked, glancing behind him, where Hazard stood, lazily looking around. The mammothian beast was a fair weight, and all of that weight was concentrated in a small space, which would be bad for the boat if the Aggron were to smash through the deck. "He's not dangerous."

"Aye, matey. Maybe not to yerself or me, but t' mae ship. I don' mind to be takin' ya landlubbers to that there tournament, but I ain't gonna be havin' a two-ton-"

"Half-ton," Isaac corrected, not about to take any flak from this fellow, who had already irritated him.

"Eh?"

Isaac sighed. "Havoc only weighs about a thousand pounds. That'll be about half a ton."

"Pah, numbers. Ain' changin' me mind though. If he's comin', he's comin' in a Pokeball, 'r you can try yer luck with the next boat."

Isaac gave a grunt, adjusting his hat down over his eyes. He knew that registration was only a day, and he really couldn't afford to miss it. "All right, all right. Sorry old boy, but you'll have to wait for now," he spoke, and the Aggron gave a grunt before it vanished into the sphere. "Now may I board?"

"Course ye can, laddie!" the captain called out with a grin before cackling, moving back across the deck. Isaac sighed; this was likely to be a long trip.

Upon arrival, the first thing Isaac did was release Havoc once more. The Aggron had been with him since he was a boy, and while he was old, he had gotten used to being out and about. "Sorry about that, partner," Isaac spoke, patting the beast on the shoulder, which merely grunted in response. "Let's go see what this tournament business is all about, eh?"

Just over an hour later, Isaac glanced at the information booklet he held, grunting. "Partnered with an Orion Pierce. Isn't there some mythology about a hunter named Orion?" he asked, glancing at Hazard, who just murmured under its breath. "Well whatever. We'll find him soon enough. Let's head up to the room and unload some stuff and take a look around, eh?"

"Gron," Hazard agreed, tromping behind the man as he moved through the area.

How To Start A Friendship - Part 1

"Sure, a battle sounds good to me. Let's head on down to the basement in the main complex, it says in the rule book there's a practice arena there we can use."

Ryudo was confident about the events to come as even if he didn't win, he wanted nothing more than a chance to prove himself to his new partner. He could already tell they'd become great friends, but he definitely didn't want to be labeled the weaker of the two. They approached the elevator leading down into the arena and flashed their passes at the waiting guards. After being checked for prohibited items and cleared for entry, the pair entered the stadium and took their sides of the field.

Well, this'll be interesting... Malik thought, shaking slightly.

Wait... why the hell was he shaking? Was it because of the battle? He wasn't that excited was he? In truth, he probably was. He was going up against a Bronzing, not even 23 hours before the tournament even started. Malik had never gone up against a Bronzong before ... what the hell was this thing anyway?

Psychic? Ghost? Malik couldn't wrap his mind around it. Damnit! This kid is NOT gonna see me quivering like this. I've gotta do something before--

"We'll take the first move if you don't mind!" Ryudo called from across the sanded arena.

"Uh! ... Y-Yeah ... sure thing ..." Malik hesitantly answered back between shaking spells.

Ryudo took note of Malik's bewilderment and knew it was time to make a quick strike. The match started as the referee waved a flag to signal it.

"Bronzong, kick things off with Toxic!" Ryudo called.

In an instant, his Pokemon became encased in a glowing purple coating before shooting out large globs of concentrated poison over the battlefield in all directions, a move Malik recognized all to well. Based on the worried look on Dragonair's face and the confusion of what they were up against, Ryudo had no doubt in his mind that the attack would hit the defenceless Pokemon.

Damn Whirlipede ... Malik thought with a frown. "Hmph! We can handle that, right Serena?" His Dragon Pokemon mewed in recognition, so Malik called his attack order. "Alright then, use Twister!"

On cue, Serena focused her energy into creating a powerful torrent of air, mixed in with debris and the dirt from the arena, all aimed at Ryudo's Bronzong. The Toxic orbs, which were flying at Serena, now started to become swept up in the harsh winds of her attack. The colors swooped around inside until they all began systematically exploding, causing the Twister to dye itself a deep and brooding purple.

"Ha, you think that'll stop us? Bronzong, take the hit and retaliate with a Psychic attack! Show them your power.

WHAT?! Malik thought, surprised. Why would he let Bronzong take a hit like that? He'd be damaged for sure, but on top of that ...

He simply watched on as the menacing vortex of miasma washed over Bronzong's form, causing it to become unrecognizable inside it's purple mist. For some reason, Malik was more worried about Bronzong than Ryudo was, and he really began to doubt if his opponent knew the severity behind being succumbed to poison during a match.

Bronzong stayed still as the Twister's debris bounced off of its body, barely leaving a scratch. In actual fact the attack did hurt it a small amount, but it wasn't about to show that to its opponent; it was going to look invincible. Ryudo knew that a Steel type like Bronzong wasn't able to succumb to poisoning and that a Dragon attack would bounce right off its rock hard body, so he had no trouble letting it take the hit.

Hehe, that's my Bronzong... Stay strong baby.

After the Twister had died down and the deathly purple haze dissipated, Bronzong quickly hovered higher up into the air whilst beginning to shine a brilliant pink aura. The ground itself started to shake under the power of Bronzong's Psychic, but as for Bronzong, it simply continued on as if Serena's super-charged Twister attack left no affect. It grew a large grin as its eyes began concentrating before making the field erupt in a pink vortex.

Huh? Bronzong looks completely unphased by the Twister attack? Malik thought looking even more tensed and nervous than before.

Rocks and rubble flew from all directions at the waiting Dragonair as Psychic powers were attacking it from all directions. A huge cloud of smoke erupted around the Dragon Pokemon which slowly descended, revealing the outcome of the attack.

Heh, looks like we're just getting started. Ryudo said with a tauntingly devilish grin.

"Serena!" Malik called desperately, watching his Pokemon's tragic looking downward spiral. The smoke blocked his view, and for whatever reason, Malik automatically feared the worse.

He'd been at the end of a pretty good amount of Psychic attacks before; what was it that made this one so notable? Was it from his nerves? ...No, Malik's had nerves before a few matches before. Even Glace from back home in Iccirus had put him on the ropes in a battle or two and his friend didn't even like Pokemon battles, so that definitely wasn't it.

Was it because Dragonair was a Dragon-Type? Are Psychic moves super-effective on Pokemon like her? Come to think of it, Malik's never used Dragonair on a Psychic Pokemon before. Not too many Pokemon of that type choose to hang around the icecaps in Iccirus, so he hadn't had much experience in that department.

But putting that aside, there was still something gnawing at his head as he tried to maintain his grasp on the situation. However, whether he wanted to or not, Malik was about to get the answer to an even more important question; was his Dragonair okay after such a powerful attack?

Within a few more seconds, Serena could be seen hovering in the pocket of air her body creates for her levitation. Malik could easily see the few scrapes from the previous attack, knowing that Psychic, while not as effective as he made himself believe, still left its mark on the Dragon Pokemon.

"Ugh! Gotta shake this thing off! Okay, Serena! Use Dragonbreath!"

His Pokemon sprang back into action, giving a slight battle cry as he came in close to deliver her mid-ranged Dragon attack.

Ryudo looked perplexed. Dragon Rage? Don't they know they should wait for Bronzong to use its Psychic powers before attacking whilst its defense is low? Man, and this guy's meant to be my partner... As the Dragon Pokémon started to move closer, Bronzong simply stayed still, unmoving. It was obvious the Pokémon had complete faith in its trainer; no matter how confused Ryudo was about Malik's plans at that moment.

"You're not gonna beat my Bronzong with brute force dude; you've got to wait for the right moment before attacking." Ryudo had a brilliant grin whilst saying this as he realized a win was becoming easier to grasp. "Now Bronzong, quickly use Iron Defense to brace the attack!"

Bronzong's body shone a brilliant silver as its body tightened up and became hard as steel. Heh, this'll be a sinch. As the Dragonair's attack crashed into Bronzong, the Dragon type was thrown back without Bronzong taking a scratch. Its body had become something of a shield, so bracing an attack like that was no problem at all.

"Come on Malik, you said you were good at this stuff! How're we going to win the tournament with moves like that?" Ryduo raised his hand into the air. "Alright Bronzong, let's show them your Gyro Ball!"

Bronzong began to spin on the spot, picking up speed with every rotation until the Pokémon became a blur. His arms started shining a brilliant blue making the Pokémon resemble a giant steel wrecking ball, which then began to move. From the impressive speed it had gathered, the wrecking-ball Bronzong was now hurtling full-speed into the awe-struck Dragonair...

I'm not liking this... Malik thought, his mind racing in an uncontrollable frenzy. How do we beat this thing if our speed isn't even enough?

Amaterasu Aoi​

As Amaterasu sat back down on the sofa, she heard a voice exclaim "Sorry!" as the door to the room was briefly opened and shut. She quickly realized that this was likely her new roomate and partner, scared off by the possible presence of an evil spirit in their chambers. How nice it was to know that her partner had an understanding of the supernatural, but perhaps she was a bit too worrisome about it. Luckilly for Eria, Amaterasu was skilled in driving them away and sending them back to where they came from.​

The Unovan cartoon Exploration Hour countinued to play in the background, Recca still watching as her Trainer got up to welcome her partner. Opening the door again, Amaterasu addressed the female, Eria Estella. She was a rather odd looking girl, in both appearance and manner of dress, but it was all kind of cute. Her frail limbs and pale skin suggested that she was a good few years younger than the seventeen-year-old miko, but looks could be deceiving. Not only that, but Amaterasu knew full well that age didn't have to matter when it came to a Trainer's skill.​

"No need to worry, my friend," Amaterasu spoke calmly to the girl with a friendly smile. "It was just the television, see? My mistake. Our room is completely free of the paranormal. You must be Eria, right? I'm Amaterasu, and I'd be honored to have you as my partner." She extended her hand to the girl in a friendly gesture. "Why don't you come on in and make yourself at home?"​

"We're not afraid of your silly Piplup guards, Freeze King!," a voice from the television resounded. The boy in the Cubchoo hat picked up a sword as he dashed forward, moving down several of the penguin Pokemon in his path and flailing them about comically. "Nine-taaaaaaillllls!" Recca was rolling on the couch and laughing. She didn't fit the supposed regal demeanor of her species in the slightest, but she was loyal Amaterasu to the bitter end, and quite the battler when she needed to be.​

"You'll have to excuse Recca, that's just how she is," Amaterasu continued. "But she is an amazing Pokemon when she's in the mood." The teenager was doing her best not to frighten her new partner, as she seemed to be rather timid. Perhaps she might also help with putting up the talismans later, after they were both unpacked and settled in.​

Salem makes a good impression

Now, Rolly wasn't a travel expert. He had no idea how most transportation services were supposed to work, but he could make a safe bet that they didn't work like that. Boats should not be meandering into whirlpools, passing through treacherous waves, or casually strolling through Sharpedo territory. And they especially shouldn't do... that. It gave him the shivers just thinking about it.

Rolly and Waltz weren't just glad or relieved to finally settle on the steady ground of the island. It was a bliss filled doziness that was incapable of fading by any means other than time. Rolly lazily dug under his scarf and pulled out his house pass, with the accompanying letter of acceptance.

Waltz blankly gaze up towards Rolly, and his trainer's equally blank expression provided no source of comfort. He wanted to go and lay down... Why wasn't Rolly bothering to take care of things? The Luxray snorted with mild annoyance, and thankfully snapped the dozey headed teenager back to reality.

Rolly clambered onto his Luxray, who was intelligent enough to stride for the entrance gates. There they should get things verified and figured out.

And as boring as that was, that meant reviewing everthing. His house pass only needed a quick glance. It appeared similar to the standard Trainer Card. His photo, a few basic details, a quick registry of his team on the flipside, and an impressive picture of Dialga in the background. Ugh, he would have much preferred Giratina or Arceus. Dialga seemed so... Bland compared to those two. But it was miles better than Palkia.

Tucked behind that was a brief profile of his partner. Rolly flopped backwards over his Luxray, with his fingers nearly dragging over the ground. He tugged his hat tight to prevent it from Arceus forbid, falling off, and lightly purveyed the sheet of unneeded information, as he should hopefully be meeting her soon.

... There was almost nothing about her Pokémon! How could he make plans without that?! What the heck was a Charizard?! And Tyranitar? Definitely from another region. Kanto in fact, he could learn so much about Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres from her! And maybe even Suicune, Raikou, Entei, Ho-oh, Lugia, and Celebi~! Oh gosh this would be so exciting and magical and he could learn so mu- Milotic. Well that was one he was familiar with. Ugh, she must have been one of those prissy types concerned with pretty-ness and girly stuff.

Rolly and Waltz shared a glance, along with an exaggerated grimace. Neither of them needed anything to do with girl stuff.

The duo shrugged off their misery and greeted the receptionist cheerily in the gateway styled admission center. "Howdy! I'm reporting in for the tournament." False pleasantries were exchanged that left both himself and the receptionist feeling patronized, but the ordeal went smoothly otherwise. He wasn't carrying all that much, which made the item check a quick and painless process. And the directions were so simplistic that even a simpleton like Rolly should be more than capable of following them without failure.

That was a lie. He was totally lost.

He left the admissions center with a nervous smile, but he wasn't burdened with those silly papers any longer. Well, most of them. He still needed the house pass. Everything else was shoved in a trash can. Where it belonged.

Everything worked out fortunately in the end. Waltz was nowhere near as big a fool as Rolly had proved himself to be. And even when his trainer tugged his mane to guide him in the "right" directions, the Luxray took the "wrong" ones all the way to the doors of the Dialga house. But as the dust settled after their quick scuffle resulting from Waltz's taunting glance, both realized that neither had a clue which room was theirs. Because the room number was listed on one of those pieces of papers that was in the trash can. Where it belonged.

Rolly spent his time sulking in the open lobby area of the building, hoping to find some unfortunate maid or manager to sequester for directions. Until he remembered his house card, that was. He could've slapped himself for his stupidity, but Waltz was more than happy to take care of that for him.

Their next few minutes were spent prowling the hallways for any sight of room D-29. The pair scurried up the stairs wildly and raced for the door to their room, or what they assumed it had been based on the layout of the floor beneath. Their educated guess proved correct, but their frantic energy almost ripped the door away from its hinges when Rolly pulled it open and taunted Waltz with an outlandish razzberry... For Waltz to slam into him and send the both of them bowling down the hallway.

And Waltz was the one who ended up triumphant, recovering from his tumble quickly enough to bounce in through the door. Rolly tore after him with a vengeance, and was about to tackle Waltz before he realized there was another pair of occupants in the room. With no fear of retaliation due to the presence of witnesses, the Luxray grinned toothily back at his trainer before hopping up and settling on the sofa.

Soon...

"Hello!" Rolly stood back up straight, ripping his hat off in an exaggerated bow that was just as childish as it was gentlemanly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mina, yes?"

Rion Mazer

Under his feet, the water sloshed around the boat, making it bounce and shift. Next to him, a young trainer let out a screech of surprise. Rion winced and shied back reflexively. Don't worry, it was just a kid, just one... oh who was he fooling? He would have been doing the same thing if he wasn't focused on keeping himself on the bench. His pale fingers brushed the fur of his Absol and Rion allowed himself to relax an inch.

"You mustn't be so jumpy." The words resounded in his mind to the sound of an echo. Deena looked at him gently. "What would your family think, after you worked so hard to get here?" Rion nodded, apologetic. He never spoke back aloud, or at all really. It didn't really matter who he was talking to, it was hard to talk with them. He still never got the cues perfectly and he never was the fast at responding. It took him too long to think of how to reply...

No. He slapped his cheeks reflexively as he was taught to do when he got depressed. A little pain was a good reminder. Rion saw the island up ahead. It was rather beautiful but he didn't openly gawk like he saw many others doing. He wasn't sure what that would do to his face. At any rate, the vessel soon docked and everyone else flooded off the boat. Soon he was the only one left barring a tall man with a suitcase. He was glanced at.

"Kid the ship's empty. Time to pack up and head out." Rion fidgeted as he processed the sentence.

"I..." He searched for the words and shook his head, trying to clear it and think properly. "I... yes I'm aware... I simply... I can not..."

"You don't like crowds right?" Rion felt his cheeks heat up with embarrassment and relief as he nodded, thankful he didn't have to fumble for words any further. The man nodded sympathetically. "I don't blame you kid. Half these people have their large Pokemon out and don't know how to trim the noise. Someone small like you could get trampled. Or you get drowned out over everybody shouting." The young clerk snorted as he led the way off the boat, oblivious to Rion's fidgeting. "That's the thing with the airheaded kids: They're everywhere, ignorant, and hopelessly cocky."

As the man rambled on, Rion slipped away into the edge of the group. He had wanted to say that man was being rude to people he didn't even know... but he just didn't know how. Does this make me a coward? Deena said nothing, merely followed him into the line. As the queue slowly made its way forward, Rion listened to the voices around him. Shyly he pulled out his trainer card. It was safer than talking, much safer.

Eventually he reached the front and the woman squealed at the sight of him. Yes, squealed. "Oh you're such a cutie!" Rion blinked slowly, completely lost on how to reply, and showed her his trainer card. Deena butted his hand once and he retracted it carefully. "Rion right?"

"Lee-ohn," he corrected softly. His name was weird; he knew that much. The woman giggled an apology and handed him what he needed. Rion murmured a thank you and went searching. Deena followed him, causing some people to give him a wide berth. Why did he always... oh right. She was a disaster Pokemon. Rion shook his head. He didn't understand what that meant even now. He looked to see he would have a roommate and flinched.

Yuki... Aurora. Oh... well... this would be awkward. Maybe... Maybe they would be nice... and patient. Maybe.

And maybe he'd regrow his eye.

Rion shook his head and entered the Time house. He quietly slipped the key in and opened the door to a deep blue room. Reflexively the boy shuddered. The colors blue and red still weren't exactly easy to get used to. He watched Deena pace inside to lay at the foot of one of the beds. Rion sighed softly and closed the door behind him.

Maybe a nap would make this less nerve wracking....

Mina Avery

Noise from coming from the doorway distracted Mina from her investigation of the room, and she turned around to find a boy coming in with a Luxray. The Luxray hopped onto the sofa while the boy bowed rather comically to Mina. "Hello!" he said. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mina, yes?"

Mina looked at him in confusion for a moment before her gaze lit up. "Oh! You must be Salem!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands together gleefully. "Yep, I'm Mina alright, and that over there is Fire." Said Charizard walked over from the corner he had retreated to while Mina was exploring and gave Salem and the Luxray a calculating look. After a few moment, he turned is head away with a snort.

Mina brushed off her Pokemon's rather rude behavior, having expected it from the start, and went on with the introductions. She pulled two of the three pokeballs from her belt and from the red light that shot out of them appeared a Tyranitar and a Milotic. "And these are the other two Pokemon I brought with me, T-Rex and Aquarta," she said, pointing to each in turn. T-Rex roared fiercely before glaring down at Salem while Aquarta sat coiled next to Mina, nudging her trainer's arm affectionately. The newly released Pokemon moved to look around the room, or in Aquarta's case, turned her head to look timidly about so she wouldn't have to leave Mina's side. T-Rex on the other hand went over to greet the Luxray laying on the couch, the Tyranitar towering over the electric-type.

"I love your Luxray by the way," Mina said, moving to get a closer look at it. "They're one of my favorites from Sinnoh." At Aquarta's despairing cry, she added with a laugh, "Besides Milotic, of course." Spinning around to face Salem again, she stuck out her hand to shake, a smile on her face. "Well, it's nice to meet you."

Malik watched on, frightening Dragonair with his silence as the spinning wrecker came towards her at a break-neck pace. Ryudo couldn't help but look on happily, how else do you react to a win that seemed so easy? "Serena, jump out of the way!"

Serena attempted to jump out of the way of the oncoming steel sphere of destruction, but just as she left the ground Bronzong collided with the fleeing Pokémon, smashing straight into her middle body and sending the poor Pokémon flying into the stadium wall. The Dragon type struggled to get back up, but after encouragement from its trainer it was rearing to go again.

"I knew you'd get up again. Serena, use Dragonbreath!" Malik was obviously panicking now after that strong attack, but he wasn't going to let that fear effect his Pokémon's performance.

Serena reared its head back and prepared its attack as Bronzong simply floated on the spot and watched. The Dragon type Pokémon looked confused as to why Bronzong wasn't moving, but figured it was just because it was dazed from the collision and decided to take advantage of this fact. Opening her mouth and letting out a huge roar, Serena fired out bright blue flames and sparks right at Bronzong. But once again, it didn't do a thing to the Steel type Pokémon - not whilst its defenses were that high.

"I told you already Malik, you're not going to hurt Bronzong with moves like that. You're got to be patient and wait for the right moment. Pshht, what help are you going to be in the tournament? Oh well, let's finish this. Bronzong, use Iron Defense to harden your body then spin and use Gyro Ball again! Deliver one final blow."

Bronzong hastily followed Ryudo's request and shone once again in a brilliant silver chic, before beginning to spin on its axis and surround itself in a bright blue light. The colours cascaded together like the Aurora Borealis forming a magnificent shimmering orb of light which grew ever faster in its rotations before heading straight towards Serena like the descending moon.

The pupils of Malik's eyes dilated in angst. He didn't know what was about to happen, but he at least wanted to try and prevent it from happening.

With an very audible growl, he called out an attack. "Gah! Dragonair, blast yourself into the air with Twister!"

Dragonair mewed in response, sounding more like a heavy finally if anything. As told, Serena shot the huge tropical winds at the ground below her, shooting up instantly in turn. Bronzon's attack zipped right under her just a split-second later, the winds from its speed nearly knocking Malik off his feet.

From her new vantage point directly above Ryudo's now dazed Pokemon, Malik finally decided it was time for a "do or die" combination.

"Now, drop down on Bronzong with Waterfall!" he yelled, gesturing the drop with a mighty fist.

Dragonair liked this idea, no one could be sure of what would come next should his combo prove successful, but a chance was a chance, and Malik planned on taking it.

The blue orb around Serena's slender neck began to glow, as what appeared to be water swirled around inside. Moisture in the air quickly began to form around her, creating a pool of heavy water in the air above Bronzong. Ugh, that was impressive, what am I going to do now whilst Bronzong's defenses are down? Thought Ryudo in despair.

Malik soon grew the same devilish grin that had previously spread across Ryudo's, but would he be able to keep it? Well, he'd have to find out, seeing as the water Serena conjured began to grow so massive you could plainly hear the waves crashing against themselves around the contained aura she'd created to hold it all.

Now's my chance! he thought. "Do it! Drop the Waterfall"

The powerful barrage of water plummeted onto the weary Bronzong whilst it lay helpless on the ground as Serena began to ride down the waterfall and crashed straight into Bronzong at blistering speed. The impact was so powerful that Bronzong was imprinted right into the ground as the ground beneath both trainers shook violently.

"What! How can a Dragonair have so much power when it hasn't even evolved!? That's it, Bronzong, use all your power with a Psychic attack now!"

Bronzong lifted itself back off the ground with its Psychic power and began slowly preparing itself for a huge attack. The very air began to twist and the ground shook as the powerful barrage built up around Serena. Rubble from the battle began to fly all over the room as Bronzong started to let out a high-pitched penetrating cry, focusing all of its power into that move. Ryudo wiped the sweat from his forehead as he watched Bronzong with tension; this was do or die.

Malik also watched Bronzong expectantly, knowing that if there was going to be a deciding factor to everything that's happened in this match so far, these next few moves were it.

"Dragonair, use your special move! Draco Meteor!" Malik called after a rough bead of sweat trickled down the anxiety on his face.

Suddenly, a fiery ball of blue matter circulated around a mysterious crater of rock that seemed to appear out of nowhere. This was the maelstrom of Dragon-Type moves, the piece d'resistance. Anything that came in the path of this attack was sure to have some damage as a result. So could the same be said for a Steel-Type Pokemon?

He was tired of those stupid questions. Now? Now it was time to go for it, and Serena definitely felt the same.

As the two attacks built up in power, increasing to unimaginable heights, Ryudo took the opportunity to make his move. "Now Bronzong, do it!"

With a huge pulse knocking both Ryudo and Malik off their feet, Bronzong let out a blood curdling high-pitched sequel before unleashing the extreme amounts of built up psychic energy. Wave upon wave of pink aura collided into the Dragon type Pokémon, cascading against its body in hugely devastating blows. The Draco Meteor was caught up in the howl of psychic energy before being stopped in its path and directed straight back at Serena. The huge attack exploded into her, causing incredible amounts of damage due to her dragon typing, as the arena began to erupt in a giant cloud of dust.

As the battlefield cleared and the attacks had finished, only one Pokémon was left standing; and that Pokémon was Bronzong.

Damnit ... Malik thought, more so laughing if anything. I gotta give credit where it's due ... an this kid definitely deserved it... He called Serena back into her Pokeball.

"You take a nice, long rest ... Understand?" He voiced around the red and white sphere. He lord back up, but in stead of an angered look, Malik had a calm and dignified one, as if he was more SATISFIED if anything.

"Man, that Dragonair of your's was powerful! But nothing's too strong for my Bronzong." Ryudo was ecstatic with his speech, realizing that he'd just defeated this man that not two hours ago he'd been terrified of.

"Hey kid! Ryudo was it?" Malik said hand cuffed over his mouth to emphasize the distance between them. "I was wrong about you! I never thought a Psychic Pokemon would give Dragonair such a hard time ..."

It was apparent on Ryudo's face that he was concerned for both Pokemon after the match, Serena seemed extremely hurt and Malik seemed to give it no attention.

"Oh? Don't worry about Dragonair, she'll be fine. She just rests up in her Pokeball, mostly cuz she hates the Centers. Darnedest thing, huh?"

Ryudo didn't speak. He was more than likely shocked to hear how Serena liked to nurse battle wounds. Malik must've been telling the truth though, since he didn't look concerned in the slightest.

Malik simply chuckled and started to head for the exit. "Yeah, I figured you look like that, kid..." He unlatched the lock to the door and headrd past the threshold, so Ryudo put it in his head that Malik must have not wanted to talk anymore.

"Well?" He asked, peeking his head back into the doorway. Gesturing with his thumb, he pointed outwards behind him. "Come on, kid! The day's still young? Let's go see what else you can do on this borin' island ..."

Malik stepped out and he assumed Ryudo would do the same, mostly because he didn't turn around to look. And he didn't have too, he was sure the kid would tag along. He was his partner now, and Malik kinda took a shine to him from the battle.

At least he's not some weakling ... Malik thought as he placed his hands behind his head.

Well, they do say a Pokémon battle is the best way to make friends.

Salem introduces his team mates

"Oh good grief... Call me anything but that! Rolly, preferably." It seemed his manners had nearly subsided the second his bow had finished, and ended in an unhideable grimace. But he still shook her hand politely, perhaps even more firmly than it would ever be necessary, and reached into his pocket to snatch up his own added pair of pokéballs. All three were the non-standard premier balls, and each was decorated with a colorful set of letter stickers that spelled out the names of the dwellers.

"Well, let me introduce you to my own friends!"

And as it turned out, they popped up in the sky with a fanciful flare. After all, Rolly couldn't go without introducing his own fellows!

The room ended up hilariously cramped with the number of large Pokémon occupying it. Now there was a grumpy looking Arcanine smudged up against the Tyranitar and eyeing it over fearlessly. That big lizard thing also looked threatening. Swing's next mandate was to glare sternly at Fire, but only after he felt the rocky lizard thing was suitably threatened.

And Polka's mandate was to touch EVERYTHING. After she had bounced up onto her trainer's shoulders to survey her surroundings, she skittered back down. First she poked around Mina's legs, guaging her as a potential new jungle gym, but that Milotic was full of so many more possibilities! And so was that Tyranitar over there! Oh, and a big firey thing! Was it friendlier than Swing, oh she hoped it was friendlier than Swing. Maybe she could ride it! With absolutely no provocation, she leaped upon Fire and perched on his back, between his wings. She was about to smack him and see what she could get him to do before Rolly pried her off voilently, and held her upside down in a tight grip.

How appaling! How dare he do this to her! She deserved to do- was that a chandelier? Oh sweet cakes she loved chandeliers! It was so small but it was so bright and crystally!

Rolly had to practically wrestle her to keep her down, and her squirming wasn't helping much. Oh crap, this was a terrible idea.

"So, this -urf- is Polka, and that over there is... Swing." Waltz nearly snickered from afar, and the twitches of his tail accidentally battered Swing unseen. Before the Arcanine could whirl around and growl the nuisance back down, both Polka and Swing were sucked back into their abodes. Rolly just didn't want to deal with this at the moment. They would be straightened out later.

"Charming bunch? Aren't they? So uh... What're those?" He eyed the Tyranitar first. The bulky carapace made it seem like a Rock type. It must be a plain ole' Rock type. He couldn't imagine anything else. Maybe Ground or Steel, if anything else.

And... That had to be a Dragon type! And a Fire one too, probably. Rolly rushed to the Charizard and studied him over with eager glee, trying to fathom it's workings. Fire at the end of the tail? Maybe it was part of the respiratory system, removing excess oxygen and carbon dioxide from it's body? Or maybe it was just the source of it's attacks, and the beast was agitated~?! Oh, how exciting!

He had totally misjudged her, this Mina girl was probably the greatest thing since canned bread. "Where did you catch this?! It's... So cool~!"
