Hey all,
I would love to get help making my epic open work style Pokémon game where the only boarders are on the edge of the map. For example you could surf from Vermillion City to Olivine city to Valencia Island and then back.
Below are some features I would like to add and the story is below that.
The story is not fully done and is a work in progress but you'll pretty much get the idea.
I know level scaling is an issue with multi regional games but I kind of have a solution for it. At the end of the story section.
The Story:
It has been 20 years since the events of Red/Blue and 17 since Gold/Silver. Team Rocket has completely vanished from existence and memory. Blue is now a Pokemon Professor teaching young trainers the ins and outs of Pokemon battling. Professor Oak has retired to the orange islands and leaves everything to Blue. Red is still missing after his battle with Gold and is said to be in a far off region looking for powerful Pokemon to test his strength. Gold, the new Silver Conference and Indigo league champ was last seen leaving the Indigo Plato with silver and that was 5 years ago.
Lance has returned to be champion whilst the search for Gold and Silver continue.
You begin with your mum dropping you off at the train station with a rainbow pass, allowing you to go anywhere in Kanto. Your first stop, Pallet Town to get your Pokemon. After Arriving Blue meets you and take you to his lab. He offers you a choice of 3 Pokemon, Chikorita, Torchik and Piplup. He then asks you to collect a package from Viridian City. Along the way you meet Purple, a young bubbly girl who also got a Pokemon from Blue, she battles you with an Eevee and you move on. As you return to Blue you meet Violet, he acquires the Pokemon that is stronger against yours. He is shy but very knowledgable on Pokemon. Blue thanks you for getting his package. Blue seems confused as Violet comes overs to sneak a look one of the clouded orbs flickers a blue colour. Everyone gets a shock as the package is closed and Blue says he will investigate this further. At this point purple comes back and the three of you are gifted a Pokedex. You are told to catch em all and explore every corner of the Pokemon world. As you leave Violet asks for a battle. Afterwards a strange purple flash happens and you think you see a Pokemon inside the flash. It disappears and your adventure begins.
Complete overview of the story:
This story is based around Giovani finding his way to the distortion world and befriending Giratina. Purple will befriend Dialga and violet will befriend Palkia. You the player will need to find a locked away Arceus where you meet up with Gold and Silver who heard rumours of Giovani's return and wish to stop it. Throughout your adventure you will encounter a wide variety of characters from the Pokemon series and unlock how Team Rocket is piecing them selfs back together to take over the world.
Some of the gym leaders are secretly working for Giovanni and are only leaders to find powerful trainers to help team rocket
The game starts off as a normal Pokémon game until you defeating a now General surge you are followed by a new character, Trocke. He battles with poison types and seeks to control the Pokémon league. After defeating Surge the world really opens up and the remaining leaders can be beaten in any order. You are then introduced to looker who asks if you have seen a shady man named Trocke. Looker explains he is a remnant of team rocket a lowly but loyal grunt. You then move through Kanto collecting the 8 badges exploring new towns, areas such as forests, islands and peaks. All the while learning more and more about Pokémon and the myth of Arceus. Also while collecting the badges you hear rumours of people's Pokémon being stolen and a graffitied R appear. Prompting more and more police to be seen and hush the people about the rumour of team rocket returning. You meet two other generals as gym leaders who are fire and ice gym leaders. They don't seem to care about these graffitied R's on their gyms and they are very rude and mean leaders. Violet and purple are battled regularly throughout the adventure talking and explaining more about arceus and the creation trio. After collecting 7 badges Blue and Looker ask for aid from the three of you. Looker believes the legendary birds are in danger. You are each sent out to find the birds and see what's happening. The players goes after Zapdos and encourage General Surge attempting to steal it by draining its power with a lightening rod machine. Freeing zapdos you then rush to the aid of your friends. In any order. The other 2 military gym leaders are doing the same with the birds. You save them but in releasing them Lugia is unhappy and appears. Trocke then appears and uses a new dark looking pokeball. He explains it's time for team rocket to return and that Giovanni is coming back. Lugia then transforms into shadow Lugia and the ball is thrown and the three of you team up against Trocke and shadow Lugia. After a fierce three way battle the birds join and free Lugia from the shadow balls grasp in the confusion Trocke escapes to Johto and looker gives chase. The birds seem to thank you and leave. Blue says he is happy with how powerful you've become and pushes you to complete the Kanto indigo league. After beating lance the three of you enter a three way battle to determine who is the Kanto índigo league champion.
After winning/losing the battle. Blue recommends going to the Orange Archipelago to see Oak to see how his GS ball research is coming along as well as taking part in the Orange Island tournament as it's only held every 4 years and it's currently the 4th year. Lance arrives saying his good friend Drake is still champion and you must work very hard to defeat him.
Arriving in Tangelo island Oak meets you and gives you the choice of another three starter Pokémon. Treeko, Totodile, Chimchar. He the. Explains that only Pokémon caught and registered in the orange islands can be used in your orange league quest. After selecting your Pokémon you go off on your adventure. You come across various team rocket hide outs and facilities. Some abandoned but some in use and you shut them down. Looker is pleased you are helping but asks you to leave and concentrate on collecting the four coral type badges to enter the league. You then enter the league and do a 32 player knock out where you then face drake. Lance watches on and says you're a powerful trainer and should collect the remaining 6 type badges to enter the volver conference to face the most powerful trainers in all of Kanto, orange and johto.
Orange islands portion is a simple adventure that is meant to add more backstory to team rocket. It's not meant to be long or hard just a fun little detour.
Make Johto portion of the story about Trocke trying to make the legendary beasts into shadow forms to take Ho-Oh and join Giovanni.
"Post game"
Sinnoh has been taken over by team rocket and they confiscate all Pokémon upon arrival to Canavale City the only port. The player meets up with looker who helps them sneak in but you must leave all your Pokémon with Blue. Looker gives you a handful of poke balls he snuck in and your adventure starts. The player then goes around defeating the gyms who are all Giovanni minions and the only trainers in Sinnoh are team rocket and galactic members. After defeating each gym you liberate the area and learn about Giovanni's plan to take over the world. With Girantina.
More Sinnoh story to come up with where old rocket executives are with the lake guardians awaiting for someone to come and save them from Giovanni. Silver and Gold are stuck in a dream world from Darkari and you need cresellia to get them out. You also find arceus trapped in the distortion world and free it. Sinnoh decides to hold a huge Pokémon tournament to celebrate being fried by team rocket. The tournament is like the fifa World Cup. All your group games are played in various gyms around the region with the finals being played at the Lily of The Valley conference. To establish a new elite four and champion.
Need to make a Hoenn story about following Trocke to Hoenn to stop him from releasing the regi trio and RegiGigas. You team up with an older and wiser Maxie and Archie with Groudon and Kyoger. You get Rayquaza
Throughout the game the player sees new buildings being built all over each region. After finally finishing each region the new Battle frontier opens up. You then travel all around every region to collect the 7 chakra emblems. Each frontier gym has challenges and unique designs much like Gen three with the pike and pyramid challenge. The head of each frontier gym has either:
Mew, celebi, jarachi, deyoxys, heatran, shaymin or manaphy and phione
Finally you return to the frontier brain building to battle the frontier master. Ash from pallet town.
Defeating him opens the final post game. The world championship. The 10 region champions are invited to participate. Along with the current champ, red. Ash is also invited as is blue for organising the event. Blue then invites you violet and purple to joint for 16 members to compete in a randomised knockout comp. You can do this comp as many times as you wish for loads of different opponents.

Once you have completed the Pokédex you can visit professor Oak for a full 6 on 6 battle.
Scaling problem:
Kanto: starting as a "new trainer" starter given. 8 gyms, last gym: 46-52 champion level 58-62
Orange islands: Starting as a "new trainer" starter given. 4 gyms each with a 10 level curve. Champion level 55.
Johto: continuation of Kanto, 6 badges from level 55-85. silver conference Pokémon level 90+
Sinnoh: 8 rocket badges. Starter is a wild Pokémon that you catch. Start as a "new trainer" Cyrus is "champion at level 58-62 and Giovanni is the final boss at level 100. You can use all of your Pokémon when you get to facing Giovanni.
Hoenn: don't know yet 🤷♂️

- Bigger Kanto with a train system for fast travel between Kanto johto and there cities
- HM's are "abilities" and don't take up a move slot
- All Pokemon up to Gen 4
- All pokemon catchable
- New towns and areas
- Gen 1-4 Pokémon
- Change the amount of gyms for each region and elite 4 members
- Fairy typing
- Multi region: Kanto, Johto, Orange islands, Hoenn and Sinnoh
- Gen 2-4 character sprites
- Complete gyms in any order and leaders scale to your level
- Dive ability for leaf green/fire red
- Gen 4 Pokémon to have there actual cry
- Change evolution methods ie trade is done by levelling up.
- Add new overworld sprites to existing ones
- Change opening animation and "start screen"
