What do you think the thought process was behind them.
I know Apricorns were the original Pokeballs but why did Apricorn Pokeballs work? I don't think they had any mechanics behind it. I think it may have been some sort of magic but thats just me going on a limb.

Also what's with the colours? I suppose white could come from the Apricorn Pokeballs bottom half (I don't believe they coloured them but the colours just came naturally) but why red on the top? Why red and blue for great balls, yellow and black for ultra balls or even purple and red for master balls?

[Please do not ask how a Pokeball works or what's inside one. That questions has been asked too many times and there is simply not enough information to come up with a justifiable answer.)

How they work? Well, it can't be just an Apricorn carved into a spherical shape, now can it? Kurt himself said that it was made from putting a special device inside an Apricorn.

Kurt, a non-player character from Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal who is referred to as an expert or "Poké Ball master" in the game and anime, explains that Poké Balls were originally made by fitting a special device in a hollowed-out Apricorn.

At least it's functions have to do with this special device that Kurt inserts. Many state that PokeBall creators made the PokeBalls with the function of creating matter to energy and back and forth.

I mean, there's clearly a device inside there. There's no way it could be made out of plain Apricorn.

As for the coloration of PokeBalls, of course they were manually colored. It's not like MasterBalls will automatically have that "M" in the middle of it's upper half, now will it? As far as choosing the coloration goes, they try to make the colors similar to the Pokemon they specialize in. For example, they used a blue color for a Lure Ball, which captures water Pokemon (more of a blue hue). The other, more neutral PokeBalls like Great Ball and Ultra Ball, I can't think of a reason so they were most likely randomly picked.

I still wish they expanded on the Apricorn Idea,

It seems they let it die after The G/S/C Era.

Personally (until I saw zel's SG screenies), I thought that Oak had made the Pokéballs out of some metal. Obviously not. Anyways, I think it was red 'cause they had yellow and blue in the name of Pokemon (logo), so use the third prime colour on the main device! Just a thought, anyways. What do you guys think?

I do wish they would bring back the apricorn balls (Heavy Ball, Moon Ball, Love Ball, etc).

But obviously there is a built-in machine of some sort in every pokeball, no doubt.

i actually think that the color is a code to represent something also this isn't as well know but the types of the pokemon the pokeball holds is represented by pictures on the little white button in front also don't you ever wonder what goes on INSIDE of it? hmm thats a good idea i am off to make a new thread/poll!

The colours are to make identification easier, you wouldn't want to throw a Pokeball to catch a Pidgey and realise later that you've just wasted your Master Ball.
