Sorry for the scary title, but do you think this could ever happen while the series is still popular?

Look at the Mother (EarthBound) series. Although the second was the first english release, it was still talked about for years afterwards. Not only did Nintendo never think to translate the first title, but they also released the third in Japan only (and then had the nerve to put the protagonist in Brawl, why taunt us so?!) along with a Deluxe box set including a special GameBoy micro! If this could happen with such a popular series, why not this one?

So, what do you think? Is this a possiblity?

I wouldn't think they would have much reason to do so. A large portion of their profit comes from items sold in the US. :x

I understand that (and I hope they do too), but that further contradicts the fact that Mother has become JP only. I'm sure that it has happened with other series as well.

The difference here is that Earthbound had poor sales in the US despite its current popularity. Which probably played a factor in Nintendo's decision not to release the original or the sequel in the US.

Since Pokemon has always had great sales in the US this would never happen.

    QFT.

popularity and sales are generally analogous to each other, but the Mother series was the most notable exception. Pokemon as a game series, while sales have had a downward trend since the RBY era, are still solidly profitable series. ^_^

they would probably keep it in the us because of all the extra mercandice sold here. Movies, cards, figures, plushes ect. I hope they dont make it a japan only series.

It might be possable with the anime one day (espesally with CN's 'no more than 6 seasons of EVERY CARTOON WE'LL SHOW!' policies...lol), but not the games.

And, chances are, the anime will probably just start to come on DVD or Toonami Jet Stream if they ever needed to take it off CN, lol

Chances are, though, I doubt Pokémon could really be removed from the USA AT ALL. :/ Or become Japan only overall.

But...Something like this COULD end up happoning with like, Kirby, though...lol

No it is still popular here so they don't care they are still making money.

I think that they should not just turn it to japanese.
Because what about the English and other Nationalitie that love Pokemon.
    So Unfair if they did!

It wouldn't surprise me if Europe lost Pokémon at some point, as where I live at least, it's socially unacceptable for anyone over the age of about 6 and anyone older than 12 will get shunned (unless they hide it like me ;)). Although I have roped one of my friends back into liking it (thank you HGSS).

I think it'll still be dubbed in English for the duration of its running. As long as Nintendo is making money, right?

It looks unpopular around here but the games generally (This looks wrong, my brain has started to boycott me letting me spell right and thinking its right but incase it is wrong, sp?) keep in the top 10 DS charts for weeks after they're released.

Much lesser popular games have went on to have sequels. Besides HG/SS will possibly bring back so many fans.

We may see spinoff franchises like the TCG and anime stop English distribution as popularity seriously dwindles but Pokemon is a cash cow for Nintendo. The main games will see release here for years and years. They may not ship as many copies, and maybe it'd end up being one of those games that only the biggest stores in the area will carry, but it'll still be released here so no major worries.

This I think probably wont happen because it it is still way to popular and money earning for nintendo.

Pokemons huge, they would loose ALOT of money if they stopped translating them, I wish the people who mock us for playing it would go to japan and stay there though >=(

Look at how many people are on this Pokemon Forum, and this is just one Fourm, now think about how mutch money they would loose if they stoped translating them.

Although pokemon started in japan, Many Americans love it.

Your best friend could like pokemon and you would'nt even know it...
