Is anyone else waiting for a pokemon compendium or been expecting one for a while!?!?!? I have ever since pokemon silver i have been wondering why they havent copied that model of after exploring that region to be able to go back to previous regions and capture pokemon and fight the gym leaders. WHy do you guys think they stopped that and do you guys ever think they will make one like that again???

Wait for Pokemon what? I'm so lost right now, haha.

edit: Okay I found out that compendium means. Anyway, I personally don't want a game with everything in it. It would feel too crammed. I don't think it will ever happen, honestly.

It's never gonna happen. They push their limits just making the regions they have in the games. They would never make a game with all the regions. Plus something like that would become outdated really fast because oops new regions. Quite frankly, they would get very tired of redoing all the regions over and over again.

Fans would love it, for sure. I could see it happening once at most, though I am not going to hold my breath. The time investment of remaking every region, and keeping it up to the standards fans expect..... it's a nightmare.

If Game Freak were to make a console game, however, then I could see a compendium-style game coming out. The ability to install downloadable content - add-ons to the original game - is a definite game-changer.

One region is good enough for me. 2 is pushing it. 3 is ridiculous, and any more than 3 is insane.

I agree with you Tek and i would personally love it. I loved silver how you could go back into the kanto region and I think the downloadable content would defiently be a game changer!!!

There's a possibility of them doing this, but don't see them actually putting it into play until a few more generations. d: Even if they make a game with all regions, I just have a feeling that it won't be a main-series game; only a spin-off for home console.

You'd probably get really bored by about the third or fourth time you start collecting gym badges again

If they made one now just for the heck of it, think about what players would demand after 2 versions or after 4. It will be impossible for them to keep up with the series.

"Ugh, last year's Pokemon ______ was so awesome, but this new game is SO "incomplete" so I'm gonna pass. Only one region to explore? What a joke."

The lingering thoughts of players would be a nightmare.

I think they're trying to let us, along with themselves, explore new regions and enjoy it fully first. It's worked for many years. I'd assume that, if anything, they'd be trying to complete the 'World of Pokemon' first before trying to make a compendium of all - which I imagine would be styled to make it work in a free-roam way. But then, the whole world of pokemon? We'd have to drop the current mechanics to make 1920381028309 gym badge-collecting an exciting journey.

    I don't know.

@molivious: i get what your saying but they did that with pokemon silver ... and then never went back to it ... the same mind thought of "oh it would be incokmplete if we dont add all the regions in the next game" ... would apply to that .. buh they came out with it and i thought it worked quite well. The pokemon games are a little bland in my opinion anyways right now with the exclusion of probably Gen V.

exactly, and you're speaking of an age when gaming was at it's finest, when the fanbase was pure, and when the competition wasn't this harsh yet. A spin-off would probably work, but like I said, I don't know. I'm just basing my guesses on what's current...especially the kids these days.

    It's sad to think about.

All these points are true .... i think the best option if they where to do it is to make not an entire spin off but like to me pokemon yellow is a spin-off of red and blue ... i think down the line they could make one like pokemon Z could be the compendium ... or just have it as a downloadable option with the 3DS having wireless connection

It's going to be difficult to implement all six regions in the same game, and the storyline to fit all the six regions. (well, there will be more, but I'm talking in terms of if it was to be made today)

From a game design viewpoint, such a project would be a nightmare. With the amount of storage in your typical 3DS cartridge, you'd be lucky to squeeze Unova and Kalos in the same game...let alone all six. Even on a console, there will be massive balancing issues...what's to stop you from using the lv.70 Charizard you beat the Kanto league with to make the Johto league look like an utter joke?
