Emerald hack: Pokemon Emerald Final v7.41 (updated January 18th 2023)

Alright, after destroying the League twice, my Geodude got bad EGGed. Deluxe with no Exp share and new Wilds, disable random calls, no mons running away in the Safari, Poison update, PRNG fix, Gen 4 ability with hidden, Auto nickname case, and berries no longer disappear. Solutions? (Is not that I'm sad I lost my Geodude like this, that Geodude was holding a softsand and I don't want to capture a million Trapinch to get one)
Shoot I thought I fixed that. Sadly there's no fixing outside of save editing. Was the pokemon in the box?

Hello !

This indeed is the wet dream. Ruby is one of my favourite Pokémon games but I'd never played Emerald before, being able to discover it this way with 386 catchable Pokémon is just awesome. All major and minor modifications making the game more dynamic/less tedious (HMs usable without Pokémon learning them, beginner's kit, catch XP etc) round this up as one of the best game versions there are. The only downside I found was the difficulty level being a bit too low until Elite Four, mainly due to middle-level (20-40) wild and trainer Pokémon knowing only Struggle ; but that's a detail, I struggled myself with the Elite Four using a team of Lvl 50 Pokémon. So : huge kudos to you !

I run into some bugs at the later stages that make it impossible to capture 12 of the Pokémon, here's the details :
- Shoal Cave and Cave of Origin are inaccessible (nothing happens when you walk in the "door") ; the clock and sign next to Shoal Cave don't react ; PokéCenter and PokéMart in Sootopolis can't be entered.
- Upon entering Battle Frontier after encountering Scott on SS Tidal I get Nav calls at each step (amongst them Wally, Roxanne and Scott telling me again he wants to invite me to Battle Frontier – the call you get before entering Hall of Fame if I remember correctly) ; after six or seven, it stops and I can move freely, but I can't enter Battle Frontier (same as with Shoal Cave, no moving forward through the first red tent thing) ; hitting pause, I see "Safari Balls : 0" and the option to "Retire", after which I come out of the Safari Zone without the PokéNav showing in the menu. This is the only way to exit, the SS Tidal having disappeared. So no access to Artisan Cave and impossible to get the Mystic Ticket to go to Navel Rock either.
- The NPC giving the Aurora Ticket is bugged too, upon talking to him, one of three things happens : you can buy glitch items (reminds me of the MissingNo glitch) ; a braille shows and won't disappear until you exit the Space Center ; you fall into a black screen and are stuck, you can turn around but not walk and there's no escaping this situation.

I patched a 7.4 to 7.41 Legacy New Wilds without optional patches halfway through the game, in Fortree City. I had a friend replace my bad eggs with shiny Woobuffets in the .srm file, renamed the new save file to "7.41" and continued playing the patched ROM. All other static legendary encounters work as far as I know – I haven't gotten to Marine/Terra Cave yet. I play on mobile with RetroArch.

I'm letting you know this mainly because I see you continue working on the hack for future versions, and in case this is not an isolated bug chain (I didn't find info on it on the forum in any case). If by any chance you know a way to fix this as a hack noob, I would be grateful ! I can send over screenshots if useful. Otherwise I'll go on until I've captured/evolved 374 and let the rest be it as it is :)

Again, awesome work and impeccable documentation !

Best regards

The reason you're encountering those glitches is because you patched the new version onto the old, you have to patch a clean ROM and transfer your save.

As for the low difficulty in the midgame, yeah that's to be expected lol the difficulty curve is almost entirely untouched from vanilla but you have access to better stuff so it makes you more powerful than you should be. There is an optional Difficulty Patch in the works to try to make it into a more satisfying challenge, but no ETA on that yet! For now, I think it's fun to return to the game with some OP pokemon and steamroll through :).

I'm very glad you read the documentation, a lot of the questions in our Discord server are answered in the documentation so it's refreshing to see someone actually read what I provided! Hope by patching a clean ROM you can have a bug-free playthrough!

Thanks very much, I will try that ! Looking forward to the Hardcore mode ;)

It seems to have worked, I can enter both caves and Battle Frontier and obtained the Aurora Ticket :) The clock and sign next to Shoal Cave have disappeared, instead there's a double trainer fight next to the entry. Did you disable the time change feature for the Legacy New Wilds Version or did I catch a bad .ips ? (I downloaded the one via Dropbox link.)

No I changed it to a new item to change the time, ask prof Birch's aide for it :)

Bug report: the quantity of TM31 Brick break given is broken. As a result, you can sell these TMs for an alarming amount cash. Screen shot below

Dont know if this forum is still active, but in the new wilds lists (for legacy) it says the gen 1 starters are only found in the new safari zone, but previous posts stated bulbasaur has a low chance of being found in petalburg woods. Was this changed?

Yes it's still active and yes that was changed. The Safari Zone felt more appropriate imo

I'm stuck when patching files, there is no any file called "pokemon emerald final 7.41 .ips" when extracting the .rar

I grabbed the zip from the mediafire link on the first page, to check. There's half a dozen of patches in the 'patches' folder to choose depending on features you'd like.

I admit I didn't make that clear, you pick one of the patches in either the Deluxe or Legacy folder, depending on the features you want. Will be updating the documentation to make this more clear on the next version!

Obviously a tad late to this thread, but just wanted to say I really appreciate your hard work on this great rom and the fact that you're still here helping people out! Perfect way to replay the game I loved in a more "modern" type and QOL additions. I'm loving it so far and can see myself playing through more than once whether it be a nuzlocke or different teams. Thanks again!

Glad to hear it! I'm currently working on the update btw, I post about it in our Discord :)

A bit late to the thread as well, but really nice hack, especially the flexibility and customization that you allow with optional patches.

I did get a weird bug: Rayquaza, for some reason, came with Cacophony as his ability instead of Air Lock, and I can't figure out why. Ability changer didn't help.

Tbh I know nothing about RNG manipulation. Only thing that should change it is the optional PRNG fix (disabled by default) so idk how to help with that, sorry!
I'm not gonna claim to be an expert, but I just made an account for this because I'm stuck more or less with the same "issue". The thing with Emerald is that, as your fix says, the PRNG is very predictable thanks to the initial seed always being 0, and thus you can calculate which frames will generate a specific pokemon ID, and which frames are "shiny" frames. Taking a wild guess, the introduction of new pokemon to the rom means the PIDs are changed somehow and thus not all frames generate the PID programs like PokeFinder or RNG Reporter predict, and for some reason (the same or another) not the shiny frames either. I did get lucky and found a range of frames (but not the specific one) where a shiny frame is, but it definitely does not coincide with what either program reports.

It could be great if there was an IPS patch (and I say this without even knowing if it's possible) that'd print the frame # on the screen, to avoid inaccuracies with how the emulator counts them, thus being able to make the process much more exact to know if the issue really comes from this side or if it's just me and the other user being dumb.

edit to expand on this: I tried some random catches whilst controlling the frames. Even though I'm capturing Magikarps on route 104 with the old rod (so it'll only ever fish Magikarps), the "method" needed to get those pokemons as reported by RNGReported changes. Fishing should always be methods H* where the * is a number, but the PIDs generated come from methods 1 through 3 (for static, gifted or starter pokemon).

Known, error on my end. On my list of things to fix for the next version!

Awesome ROM hack! Had a lot of fun returning to Hoenn for the first time in many years.
Was very fun to win with some Pokemon I like a lot but hadn't ever completed a full-game run with (except Swampert, though I usually choose Torchic in Hoenn). The Dragonair comes from a Dratini that Ash caught in the Orange Islands, while Aerodactyl is from an Old Amber in Rocket Edition (not stolen hah). Used PKHex to bring them in at Lv5 to change it up and avoid using my typical favorite Pelipper.

Love how you can find the event legendaries and others throughout the game!
