Emerald hack: Pokemon Emerald: Johto Edition (Version 1.1)

New release with some minor changes, primarily to battle configuration:
  • Removed affection-based battle mechanics
  • Removed terrain effects in thunderstorm and fog
  • Increased battle speed (reduced text wait time)
  • Rplaced overworld wingull interaction text with Pidgey text

Also, what's up with the crit rate? I get crits on non crit boost moves like 20% of the times. Feels like gen 1's crit rate calculation.
I have noticed this too - I think it is due to affection-based mechanics, which I have now removed

Another little update:
  • Enabled learning of (some) future moves at move tutor.
    • The move tutor can now teach moves in a Pokemon's learnset up to a given max level (where the max level is based on the which gym badges you have)
    • Hopefully this can lessen any potential issues where gen 9's level curve and learnsets are out of sync with gen 3 (see reply below)
  • Fixed a trainer battle which had some MissingNos (where I hadn't replaced the original party)
  • Minor updates to some trainers parties for consistency
  • Tweaked evolution item availability (mainly enabling the player to obtain 1 Dusk Stone a bit earlier)

This next one might be a macro-level assessment, but adjusting learnsets to be obtainable within the main game. For example, Omastar, a less than stellar Pokemon, learns moves until Lvl 70. Pushing that learnset within the bounds of the game would help make it more useful, since those longer learnsets are in context of SWSH which has a post-game story that goes up to the 80s, for example. Just something to consider but would take some time to adjust.
I have made a small tweak to the move tutor to (partially) address this - let me know what you think

Another quick release:
  • Fixed remaining unedited trainer parties. There should be no more Missingnos in the game (please add a reply if you see any with Beta v9!)
  • Enabled Gen 5+ repel
  • Tweaked trainer parties to make all non-legendary Pokemon seeable through trainer battles

Thanks for the update! Can I apply the old save file for the new patch?

Really enjoying this, so just wanted to say thanks.

I originally downloaded it when you first posted v1 on Reddit, but I didn't get much time to play. Just updated to v9 and I'm having a blast :) this is really two of my favourite generations mushed together, so it's a nice little spin.

Edit: OOPS, posted this on mobile and didn't realise the screenshots were full-screen on PC lol. Edited.

Do trade evolutions and trade evolutions with hold items change to level up?

This has been a lot of fun. Just finishing my third playthrough right now, trying to complete the Pokedex. Is Tyrogue available in this game?

Another (possibly final!) update:
  • I've added optional battles with the Johto Gym Leaders placed around the map. These can be triggered by battling Bugsy in Petalburg Woods.
    • These battles are designed to be more challenging than the obligatory boss battles, and to give players a reason to explore the map (I know I find it easy to just whizz through the story on simple rom hacks like this...)
    • Their difficulty perhaps a bit harder than a vanilla game, but still manageable without worrying about EVs, natures, etc (not Radical Red difficulty!). If you feel I've got the balance wrong, please let me know!
    • These battles are completely optional for people who want an extra challenge. They can be completely skipped with no impact on the story. There is no additional reward for completing the battles other than the satisfaction of doing it!
  • Changed Rhyhorn evolution to level 32. I don't like to change things like this, but otherwise it's not particularly usable in a playthrough.
  • Made Dubious Disc easier to obtain
  • Gave Archie's Poliwrath a good water move
  • Changed the Seedot/Lotad house Pokemon
  • Fixed trick house quiz answers
  • Fixed mail text in in-game trades
  • Fixed remaining overworld gen 3 Pokemon to gen 1+2 Pokemon

The next step for me will be working on some documentation ahead of a v1 release. Post a reply with any bugs or final suggestions :)

Trying to complete the Pokedex this playthrough and I have a few questions about evolutions:
1. Does Stantler evolve in this game?
2. How do I get Igglybuff to evolve?
