    They should do a complete overhaul of the series for a console with a first person or third person viewpoint instead of the overhead they use. It would be great with a detailed, open world featured in games like Zelda, Skyrim, Call of duty, etc. In order to find specific pokemon you would actually have to look for them instead of the random encounters. Search for birds in trees, geodude hidden as a rock, dragons on mountains that you have to climb (think throat of the world in skyrim,) lapras out in the deep sea (which you have to surf, boat or swim to if need be) and fish under the water which you have to swim to find the one you want. For the battling, get rid of the turn based and make it more of a fight. B is jump and dodge, Y, X, A and RT is attack and LT for player to throw pokeball at the weakened pokemon. I do love the pokemon series and the nostalgia however, in my opinion at least, the turn based system and bit or 3d graphics are obsolete. They could bring back old gamers and new ones alike with a reboot of the series with modern day graphics, an updated fighting system and a large open world only available on consoles.
     
    As it stands, my expectations are that Game Freak may do an open-world Pokemon main series game on the Switch. The functionality of that I will not even begin to place any sort of expectations on, because who knows how that's going to work.

    If anything though, I do expect turn-based battles to remain for the sake of Game Freak continuing to appeal to children and younger players since it's easier to learn and adapt to, rather than completely overhaul the battle system altogether.
     
    I want to say that there have been many pokemon fans in the past who have wished for this kind of game, all of these requests are pretty normal for a lot of fans to want for the progression of pokemon games.

    Game Freak knows that their current formula works well and makes them a lot of money almost every year with very few changes and although they are always willing to add new features here and there, they haven't really deviated from their main game style formula because their current formula is what distinguishes their pokemon games as pokemon games rather than another type of RPG that may include monster collecting and battling (maybe Monster Rancher?).

    Generally, when you have to suggest changes to a game that are referencing to mechanics or features from other games (for example when you mentioned that pokemon games should be more like Skyrim, Zelda, or Call of Duty), it's generally going to be considered a weakness in the franchise. At the point you start taking ideas from other game franchises, they stop being the games they once were and then become variations of the games that they are taking their mechanics from. It stops being a pokemon game and instead becomes a Zelda/Skyrim knockoff with Pokemon inserted into the game.

    I'm not saying pokemon games should just keep being the same game over and over again, but Game Freak has to be careful with how much they change their gaming formula without changing the core play style of what makes a pokemon game a pokemon game. Plus they also are constantly concerned with how much money they are capable of making after their short deadlines. Their constant need to dish out a pokemon game during the holiday season is also frequently cutting their overall development time that is spent on changing up their game play formula.

    You might be interested in knowing, assuming you have not heard the news already, that there is currently a Pokemon main series game in development for the Nintendo Switch. There's little knowledge but a lot of speculation into the game's development, and many fans are discussing how much change there will be to the stereotypical pokemon gaming formula. Who knows it's totally possible that the future main franchise game for the Switch might in fact implement some interesting changes that could totally turn the franchise on it's head. Maybe it will be more open world and possibly a bit more realistic, who knows.
     
    I don't think this is likely from a franchise that's spent so long establishing itself in its current style and hasn't really been through any major changes in terms of its core mechanics; perhaps we could see this in the future as a spinoff game (VR?) but I think it's foolish to say that this would be a refresh of the series and that it would be universally acclaimed. It's not a refresh, it's a complete return to the drawing board. It's possible the Pok?mon games may very slowly morph into something like you describe, but unless they put a foot on the accelerator with the mechanic changes, it's likely to take decades. Jumping directly from the current incarnation to a photorealistic first person live battling game is quite out of the question.

    Let's put a little more thought and explanation into our opinions, shall we?

    Do you actually think that wouldn't be fun? :P Obviously it wouldn't be a main series game but hey, I'd enjoy that.
    Also there's plenty of variety in first-person adventure games so I wouldn't necessarily conflate it with existing ones just cause it uses similar core mechanics.

    It could probably be fun, but it probably doesn't have much to differentiate itself from those games gameplay-wise. It might be a failed experiment for GameFreak if they ever attempted it, unless they come with some unique mechanic - which I would see coming.
     
    I really want to explore Pokemon world in an open big world (Something like Horizon Zero Dawn would be great!).

    Imaging Pokemon actually CHARGING at you and you have to find ways to throw your Pokeballs to start a battle after distancing yourself. Ok.
     
    Firstly, I kind of resent the notion that turn-based combat is inherently inferior/obsolete, but that's kind of its own discussion. Also, I'm not a fan of first-person perspectives in games. At all.

    That said, I don't think making a Pok?mon game that could in broad strokes be described with reasonable accuracy in generally these sorts of terms would necessarily be a bad thing. It would admittedly be kind of neat to have a Pok?mon game wherein travel through the region was more free-form, and where there was a lot more variety in the ways in which you'd run into wild Pok?mon.
     
    Ok, here's what's realistically (and optimistically) going to happen. There is NEVER going to be a fully open world Pokemon game on par with Skyrim or Zelda in the forseeable future. The current formula works for their target audience; kids.

    In the rare event that they change their mind however, it would most likely happen with a side series like Ranger or in the form of a crossover series like what Tekken and Nobunaga's Ambition did with Pokken and Pokemon Conquest.

    The closest we'll get to any kind of open world main series game is if they implement seamless streaminh / asynchronous loading similar to the original Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald games where there were no loading screens or transition points (eg. city gates).
