Pokemon Helio Version

To add on to Starrmyt-I run the RP (he occasionally will bard, but mostly me). If your interested in joining the RP, join our forums.

I completely agree with everything you said. For now, all I can do is turn in scripts to the hacker, and see how he does. Speaking of our hacker, we really need to find a way to get him on here.

[PokeCommunity.com] Pokemon Helio Version

Meow.

Um having one person to make your entire game for you really isn't a very good idea, just saying. Either learn to hack yourself or ditch the hack idea altogether and use RMXP and Poccil's starter kit, which clearly even a nitwit can use as evidenced by most of this forum. You'll have to bootleg RMXP if you don't want to pay >$60 for it, but owning a ROM is illegal in the first place so nobody will care. C:

That sprite is a horrid sprite. Whoever made it sucks. (I made it :))
Yeah, I didn't completely scratch that Starr, but that was...2 years? last year? But it will be redone and will be 100% scratch.

Um, Starr. I know how to use RMXP pretty well. So, maybe, since hacking wouldn't be the best choice for the game, we can revert over to RMXP and me and Shyza could work together on it?

ZP(shorten'd!) I sprited that when i was a beginner, and ALL if most of our sprites are going to resprited, well, because I've gotten better. See the three grass starter line pokemon? That's how i sprite now. DRaB touched them up a bit and resized the final form.

If someone could show me or tell me a good scratch game maker, I'll see. But seeing as Starrmyt is the commander of this project, its up to him to decide if its a hack or scratch. I'd be fine either way, and learn how to scratch, but hacking I've heard requires at least five pieces of software, software I don't have and might not have the money to buy.

RMXP...Aqua, if you can handle it, then I say do it. But yea, having you and Shyza jointly working on it would work better.

If you can show me that we can make Helio Version work on RMXP, then so be it. As long as the game is completed, I don't care how it's accomplished.

Make it happen.

Hacking software is fan-made, and therefore free. However, the legality of hacks is rather questionable (even more so than fangames), since copyrighted ROMs are required to make them. For that reason, if somebody actually attempted to sell hacking tools, they'd immediately be shut down by Nintendo.

Game-making software is sometimes free (such as Sphere), commercial (RMXP), or a combination (Game Maker). Really, you don't need a huge number of people to use the software, but price might still be a concern (RMXP is probably the most expensive, costing $60, but it has a Pokémon starter kit already made for it). ROM hacking is free, but somewhat limited compared to making it using one of the above programs. It does have the advantage of making the game playable on a real GBA or DS, using a flashcart.

This should help you weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of each format, so hopefully you can actually get started on the game ;)

Well, right now I'm actually leaning toward a scratch game, but we currently have a hacker who claims he is working on the hack. He hasn't given us any progress, so if he doesn't show any soon, I might just hold a staff or forum poll and see which one they prefer.

Ok, then I think it's decided. Now we have to start mapping, and I'll get some ideas of where to purchase RMXP. XD

Also, I'm compiling a new list of our sprites, so I'll post that some time tomorow.

you don't need to purchase it. You can download it for free online.
And I know how to sue it, so maybe I could start?

I searched, and its not free. (its a free demo). It costs 60 bucks, but you can download a pokemon starter kit.

If you have it, give it a whirl. Show us what you can do.

Yes, Aqua, start it.

Do we need to make our own tileset or does RMXP come with one? Or can we use DP's?

If you could get me a screenshot soon, that'd be awesome.

It isn't free; unless you feel like paying the $60 and doing it legit, you'll have to bootleg it. But once you get it, there are some good resources available here; also the Starter Kit comes with its own tilesets, though many implement custom tiles instead (such as Kyledove's. But everyone uses Kyledove's.) If you have any questions, there's a thread for that, too.

I also suggest that you, Starrmyt, take more initiative as developer-- in fact, I'd suggest that you build the game yourself, with input from the rest as mappers and scripters. But a team that requires people to check with each other for every single little change will quickly stagnate. Aqua's your spriter, don't push 'im too hard and make him do everything else for you too. :/

Ha-

I really would, and I REALLY want to, but there are a few things that get in my way.

1. Aqua suggested he'd do it. But still...I want to. XD

2. My computer is slower than molasses. And downloading this program will NOT speed it up. haha.

3. I'm not experienced at all.

4. I want to do it, but my workload is too much. Really. I'm pulling straight As for the first time since 7th grade (that's 2 years), and I really don't want to ruin that.

5. I'm doing intense swim training over the summer

6. Aqua suggested he'd do it
---------

That said, I will soon be getting a laptop (if I keep the straight As.) This frees up about half of my problems. So we'll see what happens.

Hmm interesting. This game remind of a few projects that were quite active and popular in the past. They both had amazing artwork, graphics and all things that attract people to fangames here. The only problem is that the leader of the projects weren't experienced developpers or even didn't know anything about making a game at all. Guess what happened to them? They failed. Please it's already getting boring to see new games, with good artwork but that aren't actually games at all. Noone on your active team knows nothing about game making. You even don't know the availble tools! It's hard to start messing up with these programs, you'll need to spend a lot of time learning everything (You said you was too lazy to even coordinate a rp forum, how do you think you will be able to make a game from scratch?). Plz, if aren't serious about having a new hobbie, just give up.

Well if you are really instered on learning how to use rmxp, spend wisely your 30 day license learning the basics!!! Don't download the starter kit right at the start like all the noobas that ask annoying questions do here. I'ts required for you to use it to know the basics of the program. Thats all I have to say, and that post isn't just for your game, all recent projects ( 1 month from now) should think about it... Good luck.

Trust me-- this is more than just a hobby. I've been going at this for about 13 months now, being shot down by countless people, but I've always kept up. And I don't care how many years it takes me-- I will get this done. I will.

I'm not lazy, I just have WAAY too much stuff on my mind as of right now. So please. I could use less people telling me to shut down. Because I won't. I never will.

Thank you for the second paragraph, though. I'll be sure to learn as much as I can before asking n00bish questions. XD

Please, please, please-this is in the plot thread for a reason. I want the plot to be evaluated, not the images. If you're going to shoot this game, shoot the plot, not the people hacking, the artwork, or anything else. I'd like to hear constructive crit about the plot, and so far, I haven't gotten much.

We really made this thread for comments on the plot, so if anyone wants to read it and give us stuff we can improve on, that would be really helpful.
