As Shierk began to light the great fire and called for Mack to help break the iron, Rani took a few steps back. She didn't mind the heat of the fire; after all, she was a Growlithe! Her Flash Fire ability meant that flames couldn't hurt her, and she enjoyed the heat and the beauty of the dancing flames, but now the fire was going, Shierk didn't need her around anymore. She had just embarrassed herself greatly, and she could make herself more useful elsewhere. She looked around, and was pleasantly surprised to see Kreep making himself useful. He was looking around for kindle, but his head was down. He looked surprised, but slightly unhappy. Or angry. It was hard to tell; she could barely see his face. He paused, looking around at Rokan, and Rani vaguely heard him give his thanks to her.
She didn't like to interrupt a moment, and hoped she wouldn't come across as rude, but she slowly wandered over to the two Pokemon, keeping her head down to show her submission and to show that she wasn't looking for a fight. Only when she grew near did she lift up her head and look at Kreep. It was improper behaviour for a Growlithe to submit to Pokemon such as Bellsprout, but the situation called for it; it was clear that he did not at all approve of her prejudice, and swanning up to him in a way her ancestors would have been proud of wasn't the best way to make him enamoured towards her.
"Um, Kreep?" she asked slowly, "When you two are done talking, could I have a word?"
Sure, he was a pretty foul creature, and she'd probably have nightmares for years to come about the tickling, but nevertheless, she'd been pretty horrid to him. As much as she believed that, as a Growlithe, she was superior, he had made her feel like lowlife. It had been her fault for not fighting back effectively and leading to him being attacked by Shierk. She needed to apologise, even if Shierk's actions had been beyond her control.
She didn't like to think that she was only doing this so she'd be popular like her prejudice told her she should be – she was trying to convince herself that she was really apologising because it was polite.
The fact was that it was a bit of both.
Rani fixed Kreep with a hopeful and friendly smile, then, as Rani moved a few steps away, she looked around for something productive to do, and her eyes landed on Kara. Rani also considered that the team being friendly and united was essential for helping her to protect them. The closer they were as a team, the more Rani would know about them and how she needed to act if she was protecting them all.
