in the past couple of years i have only come across few trainers who actually still name their pokemon this anoys me as i think pokemon should have names it makes them so much cooler ive named every pokemon (except 2 or so) even if i didnt like them idd still name them no one else seems to anymore do you agree or is it just the trainers ive met that dont care about names

The only nicknamed Pokemon I have is one I got from a friend - it's a Golem named "Geox". I like the real names more because I can never come up with something good.

i love naming pokemon it makes each one unique one of my friends who named hers she just gives em numbers for names my brother gives em big fancy names

my faverite pokemon with names probably were my cooper (meganium) flamie (typhlosion)
    tamehana (charizard) rodney (raichu)

I have seen some people nickname their Pokemon, but I myself am usually too lazy to do it myself. I have trouble thinking of good names. Thus, I usually only nickname a pokemon if there's a pressing reason to do so. For example, I nicknamed my 6 zigzagoons recently to differentiate between them and remember the type of hidden power they have.

also whee first post maybe I should go to the intro forum

I stopped nicknaming my Pokemon because my nicknames were stupid... In FireRed, I'd name Pokemon after a fictional character added with a trait of the Pokemon(ex. Charizard > SonicDrag [Sonic the Hedgehog + Dragon], Entei > Fire Mario [You can figure that one out]), and in Sapphire & Emerald I'd do a goof nickname based off the Pokemon's name (ex. Blaziken > Lazyshin, Grumpig > Dumbjig). (You don't want to know I named my Shiftry.) Also, when I transfered the Pokemon to Diamond, my friend got confused with the nicknames when he used them on Battle Rev., so he had trouble figuring out what the Pokemon was. (That must be a drawback for nicknaming.)

It's a tradition of mine to always catch a rattata and name it StupidRat and never use it again. Other than that, I usually don't nickname many of my pokemon unless I have a really good idea. The only exception to this is my Crystal version. I am very proud of my nicknames in that game, mainly because I didn't call my Arcanine 'Blaze' or something like that. I think it was this: Meganium: Floral, Slobro: Sage, Arcanine: Valiant, Marowak: Guardian, Dragonite: Knight, and Snorlax: Royal. I think they're pretty good if I don't say so myself =P
However, I am thinking about starting a new game on my Leaf Green and naming my pokemon after characters from FFVI.

I usually leave them as they are - however, if I have a Pokemon I really like, I name it after a random deity that shares the same traits with it.

I stopped nicknaming pokemon but now I feel like it is more personal and unique when you name them.

I nickname a lot of my Pokémon.

    My ideal party:
    -Drake the Dragonite
    -Pyre the Tyranitar
    -Spike the Toxicroak
    -Discharge the Luxray
    -Dyna the Rampardos
    -Rune the Garchomp

    :S

    Roserade M- Calypso
    Shiny Roserade F- Passion
    Shiny Charizard M- BloodWing
    Starmie- Galax
    Shiny Heatran F- Heliasol
    Ambipom F- Tokyo
    Shiny Jumpluff F- Cherry

    Just to name a few,

I always name my pokemon after animals or objects that they resemble.

But I'd never say its stupid for someone not to nickname them... its their choice.

It annoys me when the pokemons name is in all caps for some reason so If I dont nickname I fix that. Instead of ROSERADE, I prefer Roserade. It looks better.

I name pretty much every single pokemon that I catch/hatch. Those 7 Squirtles, 6 Cydaquil, 30 Ralts, 15 Snesels, etc. All named.

Though I'm told I have a nak for making names, and they go with a theme. Most of the time I start with the first letter of the Pokemon's name. Or I make them relate or use the same endings. (Though I admit some are VERY odd.)

And if for some reason I havn't named them, I make it non-capital.

I named my Buizel "Dialga" so whoever I'm fighting gets the crap scared out of them for a moment.

For me, it depends on what game I'm playing. Back in the Red version, everyone on my team got nicknames except my starter. In Crystal, one or two members of the team got nicknames. In Emerald, I think only my Breloom got a nickname. In Pearl, every member of my main team, including my starter, has a nickname.

In Mystery Dungeon 2, I've nicknamed every single Pokemon I've recruited. Not one Pokemon in that game file has their original name.

I like giving my Pokemon nicknames, because it makes them seem like they're really my Pokemon and not just a generic member of that species of Pokemon. Sometimes, though, I have trouble trying to think of a good name for a certain Pokemon. That's kind of happening to me in PMD2. After nicknaming several dozen recruits, I'm running out of ideas for good-sounding names.

I used to do it alot when I was younger and I had Yellow, but I've stopped doing it in recent years because I like the actual names of the Pokemon, as others have said.

I still name my Pokemon. It makes me more unique.
yay not many people do =)

i think that naming my pokemon is actually half the fun just as long as you dont get a pokemon like feebas and name fish or something then you evolve it to milotic and its still got its weak name thats kinda pointless
