Hi everyone!

I have noticed on some other pokemon forums that you are able to easily put in a animated pokemon sprite{as in the ones in your party} in posts. Could PC start doing this?

Thanks!

It's easy. You just get the link to the image (bulbapedia has all of them) and you paste it here with the following code: .

No i know that but serebii has a function where you can do this
;1; and it will come up with a bulbasaur.

Click post reply, when you see the above image, click it and scroll down to the bottom where it says "show all smilies", which leads you to a page of Pokemon smilies. That's the best that PC can do - they're not animated, but without manually searching for them on Bulbapedia like Went mentioned, that's all we have.

A large list of our smilies are here, too.

It really wouldn't be a bad idea though. I remember when I first joined PC, I was impressed with PC's collection of Pokemon emoticons. :t169: :t094: :t028:

Although I eventually grew out of them, it is a nice feature for people that want to put pokemon images in their posts without pulling up a Bulbapedia tab. As it stands now, we've only got up to genIII on our smiley list. XD

I personally wouldn't mind adding them in but iirc you have to do it manually and I don't... think any of us admins have the patience for something like that. D:

Split up the workload? >__>

Pokemon emoticons may be convenient. I can tell already the guys in the shipping thread will abuse them during times of Pokemon ships discussions.

I've been managing with that, but it does get slightly tedious if you're doing a bunch of them in a row... >_> Actual battle sprites I can understand going to search for, due to potential file issues and stuff as opposed to menu sprites.

LOL...I still use them... Well, actually, I sort of grew out of all of the Trozei! sprites except for the occasional usage. However, I employ all of our cerulean smileys almost daily. XD But yeah...they're outdated in the sense that Generation 4 and Generation 5 sprites are absent. I was actually thinking that the HGSS Overworld sprites (the front-facing ones, like Bulbapedia's) would work better. For a Charmander example:

Hmm...on second thought, that does seem sort of small. Maybe menu sprites would work better. HGSS Overworld sprites look OK on certain Pokemon, though, like Rayquaza:

Mystery Dungeon portraits could also work, but those seem to be lacking a bit...

I agree; Pokemon emoticons (apparently, based off of menu sprites) could be convenient, and splitting up the workload could help ease the strain of moderators...I hope. :<

I like this idea. It's be a little more convenient than going through Bulbapedia all the time. Menu sprites would probably be the best option because they're all the same size and would probably look neater in posts.

If this goes ahead I think that if we had the actual Pokémon name as the smilie code rather than the National Dex ID number, since not everyone knows that for every Pokémon (since for me it gets fuzzy outside #251). Also I don't think there should be any sort of special code before the name in the smilie code - it should be kept as simple as possible and more people would use them.

They should also be animated. More people will be encouraged to use it then because it's cooler. ^^

So for example, if someone wanted to insert Raichu, they would type :raichu:, and not :026: or :m_raichu:. The result would be:

One more thing: if it goes ahead it needs to be well advertised. Otherwise it would be a lot of work for nothing if no-one uses it. :)

They can be mass-added if they're uploaded to the server manually, it's just a pain in the butt to save all the images and make sure they're named properly. :\
Perhaps have several people help (one person for a region or whatever), and then after they're done saving, zip it up and give the zipped file to the one who will be uploading them. That way it's not too much load on one person, and it'll be done quicker as well.

Well, what about alternate forms? Like Giratina's Origin form and it's altered form?
Well, for Giratina the first form that we knew of could be :giratina: and then perhaps the Origin Forme could be :giratinao: or something. Same with the other alter forms, such as Cherrim (:cherrim: for emo!Cherrim and then perhaps :cherrims: for Sunny!Cherrim Or even simpler and do :cherrim1: and :cherrim2: or whatever.)

Regardless, I like this idea if the Admins are willing to take the time to implement it and maybe take off those freaky Pokemon heads idk.

Just putting it out there that I'd help with that. Although that was probably obvious.

I'll definitely add it to our big list of things to do though. Maybe we could get members involved in downloading/saving the sprites to make the process go a bit more quickly... *shrug*

I'd be willing to do that. I used to go through and set forums to have the smilies that were default to an MMO I played on the old forums I modded. It was entirely manual and it was very difficult to actually find the smilies online but I enjoyed doing it.

Well, what about alternate forms? Like Giratina's Origin form and it's altered form?

Hmm...I guess numbers or letters would work. As for letters...

:Cherrim: could be Sunny!Cherrim, while :Cherrimo: could be for Cherrim's Overcast Forme..

:Shellos/GastrodonE: and :Shellos/GastrodonW: for East and West Formes of the Shellos/Gastrodon line. Stuff like that. The first letter of the Forme name...

Regardless, I like this idea if the Admins are willing to take the time to implement it and maybe take off those freaky Pokemon heads idk.

LOL...not all the Trozei! heads are freaky. But the ones that try/attempt/manage to compress a whole Pokemon's body into the sprite are a bit weird... (i.e., Aerodactyl)

I wouldn't mind helping, either. I might have a little time here and there to pitch in.

I agree; if I knew how to help and was able to, it wouldn't be a bother to assist in uploading the menu sprites for usage as convenient PokeCommunity smileys (considering that in the past, I often took time to visit the smiley list if I didn't know a Pokemon smiley offhead XD).

Unless you guys are intent on gathering animated sprites, don't bother trying to get them. If you're using the mini-sprites I'm able to upload them. (Not now, but I'll do it later.) The very act of uploading them is annoying as heck.

Also, animated GIFs are annoying.

So...um, how do we start? :cer_confused: Do we start mass-saving the animated Pokemon menu sprites off of Bulbapedia or something in like a file folder...? I don't know how I'd send something like that; the only two feasible options I can think of atm are either email or posting the file folder as a post attachment, but idk if those would work well... >_> If I'm able to help with this smiley idea in some way, I'm all for it...
