    Pokemon: The Arcane Tome

Just for the record, I am not referring to a tomb in which mummies and the like are buried. A tome is a large or learned book, such as an encyclopedia.

    How our story begins:

In ancient times, a king and queen would be divinely chosen by a legendary being, having 3 brothers all made of noble metals, like himself. This creature governed the peoples' lives, both personal and public. However, one leader, after being chosen by the creature, deemed this being unworthy of him. He ordered the royal sorcerer to banish him from his kingdom, regardless of the price.

The sorcerer then melted gold, poured the liquid gold into ink, and wrote out the divine spell that banished it to the bottom of a crater that instantly filled with rainwater and sealed the tomb of it with a magical lock that only the holder of the book would be able to open. Over time, more magical spells were demanded of the sorcerer, and he used the same form of golden ink to write them. He then bound the book with ancient fibers long since forgotten and added a lock made of almost all of the supply of an unknown element on Earth. The remainder of the metal was used to craft the key, a beautiful work of art that held back information pertaining to every aspect of the skill of magic. The king himself then saw to it that the tome was sealed in the bottom of a dungeon that had previously been used as a prison for lawbreakers of this civilization.

Eventually, however, the townspeople were angered by the creation of this tome and burned down the castle. The dungeon, however, had been buried in debris and only the king himself knew of the location of the spell book. As for the key, prior to the burning of the castle, a common thief had discovered it amongst the treasures of the ancient castle and figured it to be a key to some vault in which a vast storage of treasure would be hidden. Although the thief never found the true purpose to the key, it was passed down from generations until the origins of the key were forgotten entirely.

The tome itself was enchanted upon completion to be immune to time itself. Only those chosen would ever find the connection between the key and its lock. Roughly 3000 years later, in A.D. 2007, Pokemon trainers are intertwined into this legend and forced into a fight that could determine the fate of the very universe. During this time, in the region of Sinnoh, enough new species of Pokemon have been discovered in order for Sinnoh to have its own Pokedex section. Along with this, people have gained rights to use the Pokemon of this region in other areas. The Pokemon of Sinnoh have also been discovered on a megalopolis archipelago, known as the Kerbala Islands. The Kerbala Islands are where our legend of the tome took place. Unknown to the key and tome's possessors, the two items are unable to be carried out of the island chain's perimeters, marked by Sunset, Sunrise, and Twilight Islands. Although the islands of the Kerbala region are quite similar in climate to that of Sinnoh, there are Pokemon there that were discovered there as opposed to the archipelago's mainland counterpart. Along the way to the archipelago, a cruiser full of new Pokemon trainers wrecks upon a small island seeming to have no name. After circling the island, the crew finds that the island is actually a long-lost part of the island chain known as Dusk Island. From fear of waking the Pokemon supposedly resting in this island, the crew hastens to build a crude raft and take the trainers to Palroot City, where they will receive their starter Pokemon. Curious trainers, however, explore before the sailors are prepared to leave and each find, either on their own or in groups of friends, find strange, somewhat heavy pieces of paper with strange writings on them. The ancient language of these writings is a thick one, but if the trainers decipher it, they shall find rewards of unknown proportions. During their brief stay on the island, each of the trainers brave enough to explore this forgotten wasteland saw a strange rock with the following inscription:

VJOT OT VJI VUNC UG VJI GUYSVJ UG
VJI MIHIPFESZ FINUP SEDI APAPAPCUESUAT VJI SAMIS UG
FATL VJI UPI XJU FOTVASCT VJOT VOVEP UG FITVSADVOUP
TJEMM QISOTJ OP JOT XELI VJI UPI XJU DEP FIGIEV
JON OT EASUPAPCAT VOVEP UG VXOMOHJV

What could these unusual markings mean? Only time will tell, but as of now, the trainers have left Dusk Island and are heading for Palroot town, their first step in an epic battle of good and evil.

    OTHER INFORMATION:

    Deciphering:
Weekly, the Pokedexes will reveal the translation of a single character, which can be used to decipher the parchment each person receives. Each piece of parchment is a reusable spell, which can be reused once per battle (The effect is not permanent.). People can also check their Pokedexes, which will be posted in a secret area so as not to give others hints, for each key will have different amounts of letters posted in it. People are allowed to decipher the parchments on their own, but I will not inform them of any errors in their translation and they will only find out when they cast the spell and I tell them on their logs that the parchment does nothing. Also, be aware that I am not going to use my spell until everyone playing decodes their own pieces of parchment.

    Parchments:
The parchments themselves have unique properties, such as bestowing upon a Pokemon knowledge such as that of a new attack or increments in a skill such as speed or power. The parchments are usable once per battle, and take up one turn.

    Logs:
Each Player will be given a log in which they can post attack decisions and such without breaking the rules about post length. The log is private, since it holds the information such as the key to the parchments.

Battles: All decisions for a battle will be made in the battler's log. The post there and I use my Pokemon battle generator to determine who wins. I then post the mathematical results of this battle in their log so that they will be able to beef the battle up with description in their posts on this forum. As for human vs. human battles, there will be a place for the role players to post battle decisions, in which I am the referee. The two of you can then decide who will post the battle and its results.

Mathematics of this RPG: Although a majority of the game is relying on formulas from the video games, there is a single element that makes the game somewhat more dangerous - terrain. If a fire Pokemon, for instance, is battling in a damp area, its attacks are weakened by 15%, meaning that a pokemon may just barely survive and land a hit strong enough to end the battle. The percentage of increase/decrease varies upon the magnitude of the conditions, such as a dew-soaked meadow could charge an electric Pokemon's attack by only 5%, a raging thunderstorm may add on 50% to the attack.

Connection to the Arcane Tome: Silver received a message from a friend of his who had been studying the Pokemon of Dusk Island. The message was about a piece of parchment that he had found, and he needed some help in making sense of it. Traveling to Dusk Island, Silver took the parchment so he could examine it more thoroughly, and has had it since.

I'm sorry. Your connection to the arcane tome is impossible. The only thing wrong with it is that you don't get your starter pokemon until the beginning of the RPG.

The same problem here; the parchments are lying around on Dusk Island, not near apartment buildings and the like.

I'd also like to ask you two to actually describe your characters so as to know that you're not going to post something stupid like the following: "Genji/Andrew walked up and saw a typhlosion. the typhlosion used fire spin. genji/andrew's pokemon got hit by the fire spin."

Finally, you are not allowed to specify anything about your character's Pokemon, aside from species. Otherwise, people will try to join this RPG and ask for shiny Pokemon.

EDIT: I just noticed, but Garouga! Bare Your Fangs!, you need to revise your connection to the Arcane Tome as well. I will accept revisions. Simply edit your posts.

Okay, I've edited. Tell me if I missed something.(I do that a lot)

    Character's Name: Charlie "Chunk" Mason
Backstory: Charlie, Chunk for short, is a very happy child. He has had a very good life, though sheltered and spoiled by his parents. His parents never inforced a "no junk food" so his body clearly shows this. He has a big heart and an even bigger voice, which tends to get him into trouble.
Appearance: He is only about 5'2" tall and very plump, hence the nickname "Chunk". He always wears a bright red t-shirt with a big hamburger on the front. He has a green baseball cap, red shoes, and dark blue jeans. He wears a large back pack on his back where he stores various items, but mostly food. He also has a big belt as to keep his pants from falling down.
Starter Pokemon: Munchlax (Can I do that? If not I'll change, but I figured that it matched teh character pretty well.)
Connection to the Arcane Tome: As he was busy stuffing his face with wild berries, he noticed something a little chewy in his mouth, when he pulled it out, he realized it was a big piece of parchment. He looked at it for a little bit, then stuffed it into his backpack and went on busily eating more berries.

Well, CodyJ, aside from the fact that parchment isn't all that chewy, it looks like a good application and we're almost ready to roll. I just have to publish the logs, and then we can get started.
EDIT: I've finished the beginnings of the logs and will add more as the RPG progresses. You each should've received a PM as to where your log is and its password. Now cheer or something as the Kerbala region comes to life in this RPG.

    well, grim, if you insist.

As for those who seem not to have received pm's, I'll resend you the links to your logs.

EDIT: Alright. I think that I have sent the log addresses and their passwords to everyone, so if you still are unaware of your log's whereabouts, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Yes, you will be able to capture Pokemon in the rp.

Well, if everyone's ready - HERE WE GO!!!

Chris glanced around. Palroot town had been larger than he had expected, and he had no idea where the lab was. I shouldn't have stopped for lunch. Chris thought as he tried to spot one of the fellow starting trainers. He glanced along the street, seeing that there were no people who he recognized from the shipwreckees. He then remembered that he had downloaded an interactive map to his Pokedex. Opening the electric blue device, he then skimmed the Kerbala Archipelago. This town was built upon one of several islands forming a spiral. Zooming in on Palroot town, he saw that the Pokemon Lab was directly north of the marketplace he was currently in. He then was amazed to see the Pokemon lab, a giant sphere held up my antigravity generators and connected to the ground like a balloon with an elevator for the string. Stepping inside this elevator, he was amazed as he ascended into the sky. A mechanical voice then echoed throughout the elevator.

"Welcome to the Aspen Research Facility. Please enter your name on the keypad in front of you," The voice said, as a holographic keyboard appeared near Chris. He entered his name, and the voice began to speak again. "If you are a researcher, please present your identification now." Not being a researcher, Chris stood as he was. The elevator reached the sphere and let him out on the bottommost floor. There, a man wearing glasses was watching what appeared to be a holographic projection of a Pokemon battle. One trainer, wearing a black tuxedo with red zigzags and a black bandana was battling another trainer, who was wearing a labcoat and black beret. The first trainer was in command of a large, dragonlike Pokemon who had spikes all over its back, and the second a short, humanoid creature with brown skin, tan legs, and only three fingers on each hand. Both Pokemon were panting hard, and seemed to be at a stalemate. The viewer then turned to Chris.

"Aah. You must be one of the famous starting trainers who were shipwrecked on Dusk Island," The man said with a sparkle in his eye, "once the other starting trainers arrive, I'll give you each your Pokemon. In the meantime, feel free to watch the battle. These two are two champion-grade trainers who have taken the courtesy of battling to entertain the people of the Kerbala Islands live."

Chris then sat down to watch the two people, known as Levi and Matthew, engage in world-class entertainment.

OOC: Sweet! This is going to be a lot of fun.

BIC: "Uhm...I'll take one slice of pie, those two candy bars, one of those little lolly pops, and a bottle of that Miltank milk!" Chunk said as he handed the impatient clerk some money. "Oooh! And throw in some of those strawberries. My mother is always telling me to eat healthier." The clerk rolled his eyes. "I'm sure she does." Charlie laughed at him. "Oh, you! You're so funny!"

Charlie chuckled then hastily left the store to begin eating. Just as he was about out of the door, he flung back in remembering why he came. "Excuse me, sir." He rolled his eyes at Charlie and gave an unenttertained sigh. "What is it now?" "Could you point me in the direction of the Pokemon Lab? The one where they hand out new starting pokemon?" The clerk didn't give an answer, he just pointed his finger in a zombie like manner, clearly getting that question many many times before. "Thank you much!"

Charlie burst out of the door and looked out in the bright sun and saw the top of a giant building poking over all of the others. He shuffled off in the building's direction while stuffing his food in his back pack, pie included, after being cleverly sealed away in a plastic baggy.

As he approached the Lab, he was amazed at it's shape, and how something so big could be suspended in the air like that. "Wow." He said to himself as he climbed into the elevator. The little box brought him up and up. At one point he even had to type in his name. But because he wasn't a researcher, the ride ended early. He was welcomed by a very nice sounding man and another boy about his age. "Hiya! My name is Charlie, Charlie Mason, but most of my friends back home just call me Chunk!" He held out his hand eagerly waiting to meet his new friends.
