Pokemon: The Arcane Tome
Just for the record, I am not referring to a tomb in which mummies and the like are buried. A tome is a large or learned book, such as an encyclopedia.
How our story begins:
In ancient times, a king and queen would be divinely chosen by a legendary being, having 3 brothers all made of noble metals, like himself. This creature governed the peoples' lives, both personal and public. However, one leader, after being chosen by the creature, deemed this being unworthy of him. He ordered the royal sorcerer to banish him from his kingdom, regardless of the price.
The sorcerer then melted gold, poured the liquid gold into ink, and wrote out the divine spell that banished it to the bottom of a crater that instantly filled with rainwater and sealed the tomb of it with a magical lock that only the holder of the book would be able to open. Over time, more magical spells were demanded of the sorcerer, and he used the same form of golden ink to write them. He then bound the book with ancient fibers long since forgotten and added a lock made of almost all of the supply of an unknown element on Earth. The remainder of the metal was used to craft the key, a beautiful work of art that held back information pertaining to every aspect of the skill of magic. The king himself then saw to it that the tome was sealed in the bottom of a dungeon that had previously been used as a prison for lawbreakers of this civilization.
Eventually, however, the townspeople were angered by the creation of this tome and burned down the castle. The dungeon, however, had been buried in debris and only the king himself knew of the location of the spell book. As for the key, prior to the burning of the castle, a common thief had discovered it amongst the treasures of the ancient castle and figured it to be a key to some vault in which a vast storage of treasure would be hidden. Although the thief never found the true purpose to the key, it was passed down from generations until the origins of the key were forgotten entirely.
The tome itself was enchanted upon completion to be immune to time itself. Only those chosen would ever find the connection between the key and its lock. Roughly 3000 years later, in A.D. 2007, Pokemon trainers are intertwined into this legend and forced into a fight that could determine the fate of the very universe. During this time, in the region of Sinnoh, enough new species of Pokemon have been discovered in order for Sinnoh to have its own Pokedex section. Along with this, people have gained rights to use the Pokemon of this region in other areas. The Pokemon of Sinnoh have also been discovered on a megalopolis archipelago, known as the Kerbala Islands. The Kerbala Islands are where our legend of the tome took place. Unknown to the key and tome's possessors, the two items are unable to be carried out of the island chain's perimeters, marked by Sunset, Sunrise, and Twilight Islands. Although the islands of the Kerbala region are quite similar in climate to that of Sinnoh, there are Pokemon there that were discovered there as opposed to the archipelago's mainland counterpart. Along the way to the archipelago, a cruiser full of new Pokemon trainers wrecks upon a small island seeming to have no name. After circling the island, the crew finds that the island is actually a long-lost part of the island chain known as Dusk Island. From fear of waking the Pokemon supposedly resting in this island, the crew hastens to build a crude raft and take the trainers to Palroot City, where they will receive their starter Pokemon. Curious trainers, however, explore before the sailors are prepared to leave and each find, either on their own or in groups of friends, find strange, somewhat heavy pieces of paper with strange writings on them. The ancient language of these writings is a thick one, but if the trainers decipher it, they shall find rewards of unknown proportions. During their brief stay on the island, each of the trainers brave enough to explore this forgotten wasteland saw a strange rock with the following inscription:
What could these unusual markings mean? Only time will tell, but as of now, the trainers have left Dusk Island and are heading for Palroot town, their first step in an epic battle of good and evil.

OTHER INFORMATION:
Deciphering:
Weekly, the Pokedexes will reveal the translation of a single character, which can be used to decipher the parchment each person receives. Each piece of parchment is a reusable spell, which can be reused once per battle (The effect is not permanent.). People can also check their Pokedexes, which will be posted in a secret area so as not to give others hints, for each key will have different amounts of letters posted in it. People are allowed to decipher the parchments on their own, but I will not inform them of any errors in their translation and they will only find out when they cast the spell and I tell them on their logs that the parchment does nothing. Also, be aware that I am not going to use my spell until everyone playing decodes their own pieces of parchment.
Parchments:
The parchments themselves have unique properties, such as bestowing upon a Pokemon knowledge such as that of a new attack or increments in a skill such as speed or power. The parchments are usable once per battle, and take up one turn.
Logs:
Each Player will be given a log in which they can post attack decisions and such without breaking the rules about post length. The log is private, since it holds the information such as the key to the parchments.
Battles: All decisions for a battle will be made in the battler's log. The post there and I use my Pokemon battle generator to determine who wins. I then post the mathematical results of this battle in their log so that they will be able to beef the battle up with description in their posts on this forum. As for human vs. human battles, there will be a place for the role players to post battle decisions, in which I am the referee. The two of you can then decide who will post the battle and its results.
Mathematics of this RPG: Although a majority of the game is relying on formulas from the video games, there is a single element that makes the game somewhat more dangerous - terrain. If a fire Pokemon, for instance, is battling in a damp area, its attacks are weakened by 15%, meaning that a pokemon may just barely survive and land a hit strong enough to end the battle. The percentage of increase/decrease varies upon the magnitude of the conditions, such as a dew-soaked meadow could charge an electric Pokemon's attack by only 5%, a raging thunderstorm may add on 50% to the attack.
