"Well then, I suppose we're off as well." Silver carried Chikorita to the elevator and descended to the ground. He stepped out into the sunlight and squinted, allowing his eyes to adjust to it. Chikorita jumped from his arms and ran wildly in the sun, stopping to roll over every once in a while. Silver let his new friend play as he sat down under a tree and opened his bag. There was another change of clothes, six PokeBalls he had been saving, his trusty map, some candy for the trip, the parchment given to him, and a new item he did not remember taking with him. It was red and shiny, and when he opened it a note fell out. Without bothering to pick it up, he made out the words from the ground. It looked like it was quickly written, and was addressed to him:
To Silver,
I saw you pick Chikorita as your first Pokemon. I know that it can be entertaining to watch, so I did not want to bother you with this PokeDex at the time. After all, a friend is worth more than any machine. Anyway, here it is. The latest version of the PokeDex. May it help you like it has helped many others.
-Sincerely, Professor Aspen
Silver looked from the note, to the shiny new PokeDex, to Chikorita, who was now trying to climb a tree. Suddenly, an idea struck him.
I can work here after my journey! I love Pokemon and studying them, and I'm not the best at battling and coordinating. Plus, it could pay the professor back for all he's done for me. Full of energy, Silver got up and motioned for Chikorita to come to him. The Pokemon obeyed, and Silver picked it up and examined his surroundings. It was right outside the lab, and there did not seem to be anything around. However, he was not fooled.
"Ready for a battle, Chikorita?" Chikorita nodded and jumped down, sitting and watching its trainer. Silver began inspecting the trees nearby, looking for one particular tree. Finally he found it, and looked towards the top. There was a hole, and a faint buzzing from within. Silver picked a flower from around the tree and placed it neatly on the ground a few feet from the tree. Then he made a motion towards the tree to Chikorita, who nodded and stood up. Then, it ran full force into the tree, and Silver scooped it up and hid behind a bush. Sure enough, the buzzing got louder and a Mitsuhoney appeared from the tree. Silver checked the three sections of it, and they all looked the same. It was a useless male Pokemon. He wanted a female.
Drat. Silver felt discouraged, but then regained his joy as louder buzzing erupted from the tree. One after one, they flew from the tree and towards the flower. They all formed a circle around it, and stared blankly at it. Then, one of them made a dive for it. It was cut off by another, who tried to get it.That one was then cut off by yet another, and a fight broke out. The area soon became a whirlwind of Gust attacks, and the flower was torn to shreds. Silver used the opportunity to look through them and spot out a female one high above the rest, spraying the rest with Sweet Scent. Within a second the fighting ceased, and the Mitsuhoney pleasantly flew back to the tree. The last Mitsuhoney took her time in collecting the ripped flower parts, trying to piece it back together on the ground. Suddenly, Silver sprang from the bush and walked over to within a few feet of Mitsuhoney. The Pokemon greeted him friendly and continued with collecting flower pieces. Silver looked up at the tree to make sure that there would be no interruptions, then spoke to the pleasant Pokemon.
"Hi! My name is Silver. I'll get right down to the point. I saw the big battle a minute ago and noticed that you managed to calm it all down. I cold use a Pokemon like you on my team. See, I'm a trainer. After witnessing you earlier, I see that you have a peaceful nature and are against fighting. So, I would like to catch you without a fight, unless you decide otherwise." Silver was about to continue when Chikorita ran from the bush and ran around Silver. He picked his friend up, and turned back to Mitsuhoney, who was now watching him with interest.
"This is my friend, Chikorita." Chikorita waved one of its feet at Mitsuhoney, who made a pleasant buzzing noise. Then, it grew serious and began speaking to Chikorita, who nodded at random times. Then, the Grass Pokemon jumped to the ground and began explaining the conversation in simple gestures. First it pointed to the hole in the tree, then snarled and leaped at an invisible enemy. It suddenly changed personalities, becoming peaceful and dancing around where the imaginary fight had been. Silver understood it all.
"You can't leave because the others enjoy fighting, and you make sure they don't go over the limit...I see...Well then, why not appoint a new leader? Find the strongest one and make them in charge of keeping things under control. Then you can come with me!" Mitsuhoney thought it over for a second, then flew to the tree to try the plan out. There was some angry buzzing, then Sweet Scent pouring out of the tree, and finally the Mitsuhoney reemerging.
"Did it work?" Mitsuhoney nodded, and Silver grinned while taking a PokeBall from his bag. He pressed the button, and Mitsuhoney disappeared in a soothing beam of red light. There was a soft click, and a new friend had been added. Silver looked at the ball as Chikorita did a back flip. With a grin, he pressed the button again and let Mitsuhoney out.
"I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to give you a nickname. I was thinking Mitsu. Do you like it?" Mitsu nodded, and Silver smiled happily and put Mitsu back in her ball. Then he scooped up Chikorita and continued down the path, his adventure finally beginning.
