Either? You could get both Lugia and Ho-oh in Gold and Silver, and I doubt this will change in the remakes.
 
Meganium- So adorable. <3 Plus, it was my starter on SIlver and Crystal.
Red Gyardos \ Poliwrath- Wrath because it was my water pokemon on Crystal, and red Gyardos because it's awesome. xD

Tyranatar (if it's available early) \ ???
 
I you use action replay or pokesav, then you can get the pokemon you want early :) that is when they are available!
 
i think my team will be (first 3 pokemon will depend on which starter i pick)

- Meganium has almost no type advantage throughout the game which makes it more challenging
- Scyther my personal favourite, uneveolved because there wont be anyone to trade with
- Fearow gets drill peck real early (at least in gen 1 it was like that, i hope this didnt change), what do i want more?
- Lanturn these things are just awsome
- Graveler i always used them in g/s so why not in hg/ss too?
- some fightning or psychic thing or maybe a haunter

just a mixture of pokemon i can get early on and my favourite ones (tyranitar's missing because you get it soooo late, maybe i'll replace graveler later on with tar), not really thought about weaknesses n' stuff
 
I Don't know what my full team will be but i know a few i will choose:

I posted a team earlier but I've done a bit more plotting, so here's my tentative team for now. n.n

Furret
Ampharos
Quagsire/Lapras
Noctowl/Pidgeot
Jumpluff/Umbreon


It's mostly Pokemon that are my favorites, but since it's an in-game team, of course it will be all my favorites ;] Closer to the E4 I will probably use a Skarmory rather than my other two flying-types, because Skarmory is also one of my favorites but not available until later in the game. And also closer to the end of the Johto section of the game I will probably switch from Quagsire to Lapras, since Dragon coverage will definitely be needed at that point.
