Insua, stay at Liverpool please. If he goes, Liverpool will be after Wigan's Maynor Figueroa, Paul Konchesky and the worst: Fábio Coentrão. Coentrão is one of the best left backs in the world at the moment.

Oh and Craig Bellamy is rumoured to go to Tottenham.

Spurs have too many strikers to get Bellamy as well, they're all striker obsessed.

Liverpool won the big race for Cole.

Coentrão will stay in Benfica unless they pay 30M. Liverpool can't afford it now. But it will be probably the last season we have it..

That is a bit high, he isn't that good ability wise and you dont see that spent on defenders too often. (I suppose he can play in midfield)

I bet he'll go now or next season for 10-15M.

More news, Eduardo da Silva is set to go to Shaktar while Deco wants to leave Chelsea to go to Fluminense. Gerrard has said that he will stay at Liverpool for now while Stuttgart's director has confirmed Real Madrid's intrest in Khedira. Oh and if Martin Jol goes to Fulham, they'll be chasing Robbie Keane since Jol admires Keane.

Liverpool could surprise us this season and actually do well for once. Joe Cole will be a nice addition I think.

But a free transfer? What a bargain.

Dream on. It's probably the most valuable player Benfica has. And if we sell another ones that have a lot of interested clubs (like David Luiz, Ramires, Cardozo, Luisão, Javi Gárcia, ...) Fábio won't be sold for those prices.

Now this is a real thread.

Team I support is Sporting CP, known in some places as Sporting Lisbon. After the crappy last year, my team's trying to recover and do good on this one. I just hope that Veloso doesn't leave, he's our best player. After Moutinho's betrayal, the worst thing that can happen to us is that another great player leaves to somewhere else. Can't say much more about possible transfers to our team, I guess, as there are too many names being spoken about in the newspapers and none of them is true.

About Coentrão, trust me, he's worth €20 million, at least. He's not a defender, he's always been a winger, but was used as a defender in the World Cup because Portugal has no good ones.

Liverpool will still be bad, even with Joe Cole lol. They need some more quality players to get close to the title. I can't see them winning even the Europa League, let alone Premier League.

This. Cole isn't going to save them single-handedly; they need more players.

Wow this one just came alive. Coming to the close of July aswell sounds like a nice time to start the proper pro soccer thread.

I don't think Cole will save them. They still don't have a world class team, just Gerrard & Torres. They are starting to get a few good ones around them (Cole, Mascherano and maybe Maxi) but they still dont have a good enough first XI and they definitely dont have a good enough squad.

It'll be interesting to see what Hodgson can do but if they don't get much done this year then I think the good players will move on.

Well if he is a winger usually like Katalyst below said he is probably worth a little more but £30M goes for the REALLY big names so never going to be that high.

Sporting could be such a force if they kept their youth. If Ronaldo was still there...

They might have a shot at the europa league if they're lucky with the draw in the late stages.

Exactly, I don't think Hodgson will get too much to spend either.

Ferguson has been quoted saying he is satifised with our (Man Utd) squad so he probably won't sign any more players. I think our squad is good but I love to get signings, it will be dissapointing if we sign only Hernandez & Smalling, especially considering how bad Smalling appears to be.

I'm a big Norwich fan, not that that will meana lot to a lot of you so i'll give my oppinions on the Liverpool convo.

.They will be top 4, if man city are to break in Arsenal will be the team to come 5th.
.They will preform well in Europe as well as winning one of the home cups.
.They will make a couple more decent signings before the window. Hodgson is one of the best bosses in England, the boards first good choice since arriving.

I don't mind hearing about Norwich now that you're safely well away from beating us again.

I was going to argue against Arsenal but realised the homegrown rule and yeah, they're screwed. Spurs are better then Liverpool at this point though so they'd be in the top four with City.

I'm sure Hodgson will make some good signings.

What a game that was. one of the best games i've been too.

I haven't completely read up on the homegrown rule but i believe Wenger could just give a pro contract to a player who has been at the club since they were 11 or 12. I expect clubs will find there way round it.

They have to name 25 players over 21 to be available (unlimited U21s) for selection and a certain amount have to have been playing in the country for three years under the age of 21.

From next season, clubs must include eight home-grown players out of a squad of 25.‬‪

A home-grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21).‬‪

There we go.

So basically in their current normal squad, they'd need seven players.

Most of the reserves are either way below the level or under 21 I think.

Wait for Izmailov going to Porto too. Sporting leaders are selling the club slowly. I don't get surprised if in a couple of years Costinha become the sports director of Porto. Moutinho was just the first to leave. Also, André Vilas Boas went to Porto, when he was almost confirmed in Sporting. It's a shame this is happening. A big club being sold to those corrupts. Just look what they did to Boavista, Salgueiros, Estrela da Amadora, etc.. they're all in minor divisions now. Sporting could be the next one.

Wait so what is happening, are Porto just buying other clubs or at least all their players until their old clubs go down?

I'll be updating the first post as soon as I can.

I don't think we'll be in trouble from the rule, we only need eight players and around half our squad would qualify being English or Welsh in Giggs' case. I bet some other players qualify too, Anderson qualifies I think.

We're definitely covered.

I have the feeling this will further inflate the price of English players.
