I didn't see a PS Vita discussion thread, so I might as well post this. But if there is, I'm sorry for being blind Fabio @_@

Just over 18 hours ago it was confirmed by Shuhei Yoshida on his twitter page. So what this means is that for those hardcore gamers, they can get it when it's released in Japan.

But my question to you is what do you think about this?

I for one, think this is great and I'm glad Sony is making it region free so I can play games from Japan that don't get an English release.

Region locking is one of the most aggravating things that exists for consoles, especially for those of us in Europe I think, since a lot of games released in the US don't make it to our shores. We can import them, yes, but only if the console isn't region locked.

This is a huge weight off my mind: if, as I suspect, there will be PS Vita games I am interested in that are only localised to the US, it doesn't matter, because I'll be able to get them and play them on my English Vita. I absolutely adore Sony.

I'm pretty sure this was confirmed way back at E3, but it's nice to see it affirmed again.

The one reason I do not have a 3DS right now is because it's region locked. And I'll be buying a Japanese one to play Kingdom Hearts 3D and won't be able to afford one from my region, so Nintendo of America is not getting any of my money this iteration. And it's because of their stupid decision to region lock a handheld console.

But the Vita? I'm tempted to buy it simply on principle and I will have no problem picking it up when it's out because I know I'll be able to play whatever I want on it without worry. For people who import, region locking can make or break a console and I'm glad the Vita is continuing to be region free. That alone makes it far more appealing to me than the 3DS.

Not really new news, but still good news.

I still don't get why Nintendo succumbed to the pressure of third party developers to region lock their platform, but Sony didn't.

i still don't get why nintendo is going backwards by putting the region locking in. i mean sony has done the opposite and has moved away from using region locking, it should be a thing of the past. but no, nintendo just wants to see sales be averaged out between countries even though they know that they will get less sales for all regions because of it.

oh and if people haven't realised, i am really glad about sony keeping the vita region free as i'm a half jap that likes to play most games in jap, and may even mean i pick one up before i pick up a 3ds.

At this rate, I'm considering a Vita over a 3DS if I do get a handheld at all. At least this way I can import from the UK to avoid paying the stupid amounts we do here. Eg. I could have bough Birth by Sleep for $25 from there, as opposed to $60 (on clearance) here.

I think Sony learned the value of doing the right thing by the customer after a certain incident earlier this year. :P Good to see.

Interest in a PS Vita rising...

I hope that by the time I can actually get one, it hasn't failed yet. I hope it actually works out in the end... that way, there would be portable gaming bliss, huh?

I don't even understand why developers region lock their consoles. It just annoys the hell out of everyone. Good on Sony for not region locking the vita. I wouldnt mind getting a 3ds and a vita but both are far out of reach. I'd have to wait until my 15th birthday, then get a job and then save up enough for them both. :c

I said why. The developers asked them to. Nintendo's still trying to court third parties and build up a base of support and developers like Microsoft and Sony says, so I'm not surprised they agreed. I wish they hadn't though.

I'd imagine they asked Sony too. But that Sony said 'no'. So, good on them.
