PS3 Talk and Random Games

In case you didn't know, Final Fantasy has not always been a PS exclusive. In fact, up until VII they were all on the NES/SNES. Besides, almost nothing can really help the PS3 now. I think we may have reached the point technologically where are consoles are too sophisticated to be practical for most developers, and that's why the PS3 is tanking.

Ofcourse I know that, but that was ages ago. Since FF7 there has been none that have been on another console, (not including spinoffs, remakes and FFXI) So losing it is a let down, cba with this any more. Square will get more money fact, do I like it not in the slightest.

The Last Remnant is a game I have been waiting to see for a long time on PS3. It has been out for ages on 360 and is still TBA on PS3, Wish it would come faster I am in need of a good RPG other than White Knight Chronicles. (which I still need to buy)

I can;t see why people are upset about ff13 being on 360. We still get it on PS3, so whats the problem?

Well, I'll be a little annoyed if it gets a delay here because they have to hammer out details in the 360 version. As far as I know they're going to start porting it at the same time it starts localization. I don't know enough about how long either process takes to complete but porting it and tweaking it to work on the 360 just seems like it would take longer... :[

Not that it matters much to me. I have far too much to play through before it gets released anyway, haha.

Same. I still have to complete Bioshock.
Thats a thing though, everyone who whinges about ff13 needs to remember. We got Bioshock, we got Eternal Sonata, we're getting last remnant, we're getting Dead Rising 2 etc. We've got just as many 360 "exclusives" now on PS3, so I don';t see why it matters that we lost the one.

The only thing that Square needs to worry about with the porting of FFXIII to 360 is data compression to fit an 8.5GB DVD and compliance with Xbox Live. And porting really doesn't take that long... Ask Ubisoft about that. They're real pros at the art, whether it be a good thing or not (in terms of PS3/360 to PC porting: bad).

But does anybody here think that Ace Combat 6 would have done any well on the PS3? I know it's not exactly the biggest series, but after all these years that it's stayed on a PlayStation console and all of a sudden it just reverts to the competitor. Any opinion on the matter?

Well i own a PS3 and it just sits there collecting dust, I completed Uncharted (which i felt was ruined by the addition of Zombies), Heavenly Sword and Metal Gear 4, and i played LittleBIGPlanet (which is in my top ten worst games of all time), right now i don't own any PS3 games and just replay my old PS1/2 games on it, i do hope that Kingdom Hearts remains a mainly Sony series, i don't mind the spin-offs going onto DS but want at least one of my most loved series to not go multi-plat and seeing how it lost Star Ocean 4 to 360 (which i also own), but if it did go multi-plat i'll have my 60GB PS3 with PS2 playback on eBay within the hour as i really could't see a reason to keep it

Also
Monster Hunter 3 is now Wii exclusive
Final Fantasy XIII is Multi-Plat
and
Tekken 6 is also Multi-Plat

Bioshock! ♥

Chances are you'll get Tales of Vesperia and probably Infinite Undiscovery too. Or at the very least the former will end up on PS3 with enhanced features and the latter on Steam or something. 8|

The FF13 thing seemed like a huge deal after they dropped the bomb on us at last year's E3 but now? I don't see why it matters. PS3 still has Versus (which honestly looks like the more interesting game from what I've seen so far) and really... who cares if it's on both? D: Just means a bigger fandom because more people are playing it. I think anyone who whines excessively about it is just being elitist.

I'm curious--why is LBP in your top ten worst? :( I actually really enjoyed it and it's my favourite game on the PS3 to date. (Mind you, I STILL haven't picked up MGS4 so that's probably why, but shh. :p)

There's no point compressing 13 for 360 and losing some quality, they can just do what they always done and make it multi disc.

I can't say much about Ace Combat, as I've never cared much for the series, however i reckon it probably would of sold fairly well among nostalgics and fans of dogfighting.

Also Spike, I'm interested to know why LBP scores so low in your books, I'm not a huge fan of the game, but I appreciate just how huge and fresh it is.

What do you guys think about PS2 backward compatibility if you have/ do not have it?
I used to have it on my old 60 gig, I found it very slow, it wasn't the best. Knowing me though It's cos I live in the UK and Pal Games always have problems with things, Like ages ago when porting PAL PS1 disks to PSP using..PAL games had problems (this is off topic btw)
But yeah PS1 games run smoothly on the new ps3s, I question if the new 40gb which i expanded to 500gb yesterday, Will play ps2 games just as well as the original console.
I really wanna go back to play Kingdom hearts, the Jak and daxter series, the Ratchet and clank series etc. (my ps2 burnt out, so don't tell me to go but one :P, i want sony to fix this "issue")
I think it'll happen when Sony totally stop releasing PS2 games. even so, the old ps3s had a hardware piece which made it possible for ps3s to run ps2 games. So I'm guessing now it's just going to be software emulation. I expect the games being around £10/ $20...thats just an estimate btw.

I don't think any of the 40GB consoles are backwards compatible. o.o; Only the 60GB, 20GB and the older 80GB consoles.

I really wish all of them were. 8/ I ended up buying a second PS2 after I'd already gotten the PS3 just so my brother and I could each have one. Would've been much easier if he had the PS3 at home and I had a PS2 at my dorm but... ~_~

yeah, i know but do you or anybody else think sony are dumb enough to leave it out, maybe software emulation may happen?
I mean the 40GB has the right memory unit and does identify a ps2 game, because if you put in a ps2 game it says "the playstation 2 format disk cannot be played" or something.

It's a hardware issue. Unlike some other models of the PS3, the 40 gig version doesn't have any hardware that's based on the PS2's hardware, which makes backwards compatibility impossible.

I know :P
But I'm thinking, Sony can make it completely compatible with PS2 games, the PS3 is a pretty powerful console. I don't think Sony are that dumb to not have any plans for backwards compatibility. It may be a long shot, but I think we'll see it.
Think about it this way, Emulators for a PC can get better, no hardware in particular is needed for it to run (most of the time), just the hardware has to be there.
If Sony can configure a major Software update on the existing hardware of the entire system. It's pretty possible.

I suppose... but they're still marketing the PS2. Why have someone buy a PS3 that does it all when there are still plenty willing to buy both? Maybe one day waaay down the line there might be an add-on or something that'll enable PS2 compatibility for all PS3s but I don't see it happening in the near-future.

It is completely possible and would be a good idea in my opinion. I have a friend who is hanging on to his PS2 specifically for this purpose, and his comment on the matter is that it would be much more convenient for the PS3 to play PS2 discs in addition to the ability to play PSX games, and it would only enhance the experience. Marketing-wise, they're not dumb for not implementing such a thing on the newer models (notice that the PS2 as a console still sells, it hit the 50 million-mark last December). Backwards compatibility for PS2 CDs/DVDs would simply prove to be more convenient, that's all.

Alright sorry for my absence but i've been busy, what are your opinions on our exclusives this year, those being heavy rain, inFAMOUS, Ratchet and clank: A crack in time and Uncharted 2: Among theives to name a few. Also what are your views on the psp go?

Add me on psn while you're at it guys ;)

1. There's a stickied thread for PS3 chat now.
2. Talk about colossal dead thread revival.

1. I know -_-' this was made a while back.
2. As owner of the thread I'm allowed to revive if I wish.
